In first glance, I was disappointed with the episode today. I think the Season 2 or leap should've started after at least ten more episodes after pulling on more open loops into the story but I have made my peace. The ending of last season and beginning of this one ties in well with good story-telling while also mustering up suspense and drama for Indian soap viewers. A good blend of both I presume.
I want to pull in a comparison of the first episodes and how the characters have been shown to us in both.
When KRPKAB started, the first sentence Dev Dixit had uttered roughly translated into, "A tree can grow up to reach the sky but it can never move from it's roots."
A very profound and deep dialogue to mark a beginning of a character who had exceeded expectations of touching the skies but had refused to walk away from the roots of the place that had given him that ability to grow. In retrospect, that person to water and provide good soil for those roots had been Ishwari.
The first episode continued with exploring how the roots (house) had already other plants planted but they never reached up to the sky; with Dev arriving separately with his mother into the house after his sisters. It symbolized how Dev was the only one Ishwari had paid attention to while the rest of the episode panned to allow us to see that the baggage each Dixit child carried had been the same.
The episode laid premise into Dev's devotion to his mother. That whatever may happen, weather right or wrong and weather he is displeased or not with a circumstance, his devotion would only lie towards his mother.
Today's episode didn't allow us to see Dev until the very end when he was needed by his nephew. He also didn't say anything once he entered besides taking off his helmet.
Today's episode provided a contrast to the people who had been significant in pushing Dev to explore the ground and extend his roots on his terms instead of his gardeners'.
We started with Sonakshi. A woman who had been challenged and had fallen in love so much with Dev Dixit regardless of his flaws that she put everything she had on stake for the validation of him through his mother, except Ishwari had always looked at Dev as her anchor and only hers. She had refused to share him with his sisters. Sonakshi's life ahead has been shaped by spite, anger and turmoil of proving herself better then before. Her need for the validation by pushing herself was once again apparent through the way her father addressed her success and affirmed her life decisions of past seven years.
We encounter Sonakshi's parents, back in there home state, figuring out a solution to Sonakshi's decision of moving to Delhi. The reason being the baggage of her past and her intense emotions related to her separated-husband which has shaped up her life. The refreshing look of both of the parents allowed us to see that space from the past had given them fresh air to breathe in although I am sure Mr. Bose carries certain resentment still.
Elena and Vicky had always been FOIL to Dev and Sonakshi and there appearance and having each other's back in every walk they take together has been something I have been expecting to see. The build up of expectations on both of these characters have always been little to less, allowing them to be who they are and that tradition has continued onwards in this season. There disregard for there child was collective. > I have to add on that there appreciation for there sex life in discussing contraceptives was pretty refreshing to observe. Both are aware of what they want where as Sonakshi and Dev are moving forward with a chain from the past attached to there legs.
Ishwari lost. Ishwari lost her son when she asked him to choose and that was something Dev had been trying his best to avoid. He had been trying to avoid a confrontation where he knew it would be his mother that will ask him to chose. In the previous episode, Dev growls and yells frustratingly that it cannot be love which had pushed him and Sonakshi towards this point. Dev's understanding of love with his relationship with Sonakshi has provided him with an insight he avoided as much as possible - That his relationship with his mother is dysfunctional. That his mother needed to understand that after a certain point of growth, a tree needs to expand it's roots and find it's own way on the ground to keep evolving and growing. As it appeared, Ishwari's small-mindedness hadn't really allowed her in past seven years to understand why her Dev wouldn't come back to the roots of his success anymore.
Her little Dev isn't successful anymore. Her little Dev grew up as much as he could but when time came to let him find his own, she reigned him in and stunted him.
The circle of Dev Dixit's evolution came into perspective with him not stepping out of a car but entering into the school premises of his nephew who himself has no expectations from any elders into a bike, symbolizing his youthful energy returning and Dev continuing to find himself outside of his relationships. (there you go Sona, Dev's assurance of himself is something you will be responsible for.)
He does wear a helmet, signifying that regardless of a persona her carries or his struggle with understanding himself and his feelings, he lives up to his own expectation of still devoted to the two women in his life. Except he wont chose. The idea of Dev walking away from both the women when asked to chose signified a deeper impact then the last time when asked to chose, Dev chose his mom and broke up with Sona only to grovel after her on her engagement day.
Kuch Rang Pyar ke has taken the bar too high in terms of story telling. It touches on aspects of personalities and strives to explore all sides of it's characters identity which has been tied to there responsibilities sheltered under the name of love.
I really hope that this season continues the form of first season and doesn't solely focus on Sonakshi and Dev but also on the baggage they both have carried of there childhood and there past. I want to see what has happened with the sisters. I want to see what happened with Neha. I want to see weather Sourabh was able to gain his own ground after his need for help resulted in a tremendous clash for his sister and I need to know what Dadi and Mama ji thought about it all.
Dev and Sonakshi's child seem wholly dedicated to her KKHA idea while being respectful of her mother's choices. Interesting journey ahead and I am all set to watch it.
edited to add;;
I have 95% reason to belief that Vicky and Elena are aware about Bose family and addition of little Suhana in Sonakshi's life.
