Observed what? The following.

I ain't a facial expressions or body language expert. However, I take a keen interest in studying faces and it's expressions, the body language and the vibes. 😳 Although, my observation or theories could always be incorrect. Moving onto, the epic moment of the episode.

Confusion and scepticism. Doubt and denial. Repudiation and renunciation. False assurance and affirmation.

Command and ultimatum. Pledge and declaration. Behest and injunction. False assurance and affirmation, again.

Both Saanjh and Maya made the exact same statement, 'Arjun sirf mera hai'. How do you even differentiate which one out of the two is obsessed or more obsessed? I chuckled on watching this particular scene not because I found Saanjh contradictory to herself but because I could image the forum's state in my head. 🤣 To put it in simpler terms, Saanjh showed utter confusion and vulnerability. She wasn't telling the deity that Arjun is hers and hers alone. She was essentially trying to assure herself that he is and in retrospect, without actually putting it across as a question, she pretty much asked God if he really is?

Maya until the said statement was a happy, happy thankful kid who got she had been asking for and moments later switched to the Maya we know better, the one we know who wouldn't stop at nothing to get Arjun to herself. The way she said it, it's more of, 'Arjun is mine and mine alone and he better be'. There's a contrast between the two scenes but it's not blatantly there for us to see. I have said it before and I say it again, both these women are flawed. They both are trying to falsely assure themselves that someone is theirs when in reality he's not and in future, may or may not be theirs. Let's not expect tulsi maate's or gopi vahu's, please. If one of the principal character happens to be dark, the other one doesn't necessarily have to be white.

At this point me, let me bring in some color theory and color schemes charts to explain this further. 😆 If Saanjh initially was a pantone cool gray 2, she's probably now a cool gray 10. If Maya's a cool gray 45, Arjun's love might have made her to come down to cool gray 40. In this journey of beyhadh emotions, you're going to see all characters, particularly Maya and Saanjh travel all over the 50 shades of Grey, (The chart, not the movie/book. 😛 )

The only thing that annoyed me was I didn't exactly expect Saanjh to leave her sense of rationality behind when she shoved the newspaper in Arjun's face. I assumed she was more upset because of what's in the newspaper than how the event in the newspapers came into being. 😳 I mentally kicked her and I hope she felt the kick. Such a 'tu mera naam dubayegi, Saanjh' moment. However, I don't really blame her much there. Like FleetingWishes. dearest put it,

"The stark difference is that Saanjh chose to show Arjun. There was no hidden anger or act on her part. She let him know exactly how she was feeling at that moment whereas had it been Maya she would've pretended that she's completely fine with Arjun and Maya and done something to sabotage them at their back. Saanjh has always felt comfort that Arjun is hers. Because he always has been. In every capacity. She's been the only important person in his life. They didn't even have to name it because Saanjh has grown up hearing she's his only person all her life. Like even telling Maya infront of her how nobody will take her place. So, for the first time Saanjh is feeling panic's full whiplash. It's the first time and right after realising how helpless she was in being able to help Ayan, she's panicking and lashing out to top it Arjun's breaking all their little world's rules and doing things she never thought he could. Which is slowly breaking all that absolute confidence she had in them. She fears he's warming upto Maya and her proposal but she also fears Maya. After everything between Saanjh and Maya she's not going to feel good and hearty towards her and you feel the walls closing around her and how she's crumbling and coming apart at the seams. Her little world is crumbling. She's lashing out like any person would do. Trying to grasp at straws. I hope that her character falls so she can rise. I think Maya will rise and fall whereas Saanjh will fall and rise. At the end of the day the impact is greater when you make the mistake repent and change than just change."

Also, I think the forum gets confused between what's literal and what's not. Most of the times, things/words/actions that are to be taken literally are taken figuratively and stuff that is supposed to be taken figuratively is taken literally. Not interchangeable, you see. For example, when Maya said 'her love and her feelings are her problem', the forum was convinced she meant it straight from her heart. No sorry, she didn't. Do you really think Maya, I mean, Maya would swear by what she said? Nah. That was her speaking figuratively but it's taken in a literal sense.

Another instance where Saanjh said, 'toh marr jane diya hota' is taken literally. Lets assume, I had a freaky experience and have a bad equation with somebody. That somebody practically poses a threat to my love and in a moment when I happen to be completely out of mind, the person I love comes to me and shows concern over that somebody I like the least, I'd too give a 'meri bala se' attitude. 😳 Here, Saanjh too spoke in a non-literal sense but majority of the forum went all guns blazing on her.

Now that the matter of grave importance is covered, 😆 I'll move on to another theory that's been making rounds in my head. Maya seems entirely freaked out that Ashwin will render loveless or alone once more. Ashwin seems pretty adamant on revealing Maya's past to Arjun and the way he says it, it's as if he had little to no role to play in that secret of Maya's. I don't think Ashwin's an idiot who'd go blabbering to Arjun about how he subjected her daughter to torture and abuse. I cannot help but doubt that Maya may have loved someone else before. A previous relationship, an old flame, a love gone drastically wrong. There's more to her than meets the eye. More than the abusive past, more than Maya always having been the victim, more than just Ashwin as the ultimate villain.

The baby-like, innocent, full of happiness and bliss, unscathed and pure Maya is treat to watch. My heart goes out to her when she's her fearful and vulnerable self. Also, Jennifer Winget. ❤️ *heart eyes*

Well I was the first one to wait for your post and last one to reply.. Anyways when I read your posts I can only say I agree to what you wrote. There is nothing to add more and there is nothing to disagree.Its just perfect. Hope the story speed up. Really want to know maya s past...

U R 100% right about maya's past there is something weird.its more than ashwin torturing her.i m trying to find but its hard to predict what she has done.

ashwin will tell to arjun but i think arjun will not belive him.

Anyway, let me cut to the chase. I think I've been the only one possible on the forum to not have particularly taken a liking to any of the characters and most definitely the romantic ship Ar-Ya😆 I vehemently feel, Maya as an anti-hero is not intriguing in the sense that the makers have gotten the trope quite spectacularly wrong. I almost certainly feel they're banking on Jenny's stardom to sell the character and not through any inspired writing of theirs. Otherwise, they'd have explained and reasoned with the viewers Maya's raison d'etre; they've painted in broader brush strokes without any nuance or a credible back-story to justify her behavior which is a cardinal mistake when it comes to penning "high-functional sociopaths". I don't know if you've watched Dexter or Breaking Bad but if we analyze the protagonists and their questionable actions in these shows, they almost always make sense. Viewers could easily empathize with the brutal killings undertaken by Dexter because as an anti-hero, he followed a set of well-designed principles and adhered to them staunchly, because that's the only way he could maintain his semblance of sanity. We can see the potential for us to do similar if our own morals and emotional responses were dampened. Whereas Maya is openly devious and manipulative right at the outset just like how a garden variety Indian show vamp behaves, only difference is that, her sartorial sense of style is flawless and she doesn't wear gaudy makeup😆

I'd like to end this spiel by quoting Breaking Bad's creator Vince Gilligan

"You're going to see that underlying humanity, even when he's making the most devious, terrible decisions, and you need someone who has that humanity - deep down, bedrock humanity - so you say, watching this show, 'All right, I'll go for this ride. I don't like what he's doing, but I understand, and I'll go with it for as far as it goes.' If you don't have a guy who gives you that, despite the greatest acting chops in the world, the show is not going to succeed."

Annihilation and Fleeting Wishes, a refreshing change to see your views.

For good or bad, these boards are very anti-Saanjh the character. I'd say 80% of the current active users are pro MaaJun. I'm in the minority here but also love the way JW plays Maya- nothing short of excellent so far :)

Half the threads here turn into bashing ones- and it's a pointless waste of time and energy to post on them and see readers squabbling like kids. Not wanting to sound patronizing, but perhaps a reflection of the slightly immature demographic the forum has currently (will hopefully improve with time!)

Thank you! 😳 I'll have to agree with you. The problem arises when you watch a show solely for the love story/the couple and with the shipper's glasses on all the time. That kind of perspective hinders your over all outlook at the individual characters and their journey. I don't even begin to comment on topics that are way out of line and I always choose to stick to the post/views that are more or less on the same wavelength as mine. It's better for my sanity. 😆

Loved your post. Problem with both Maya and Saanjh is that both does not know what Arjun wants or what Arjun will chose. Hence the insecurity. So Maya tries to be obsessive, Saanjh goes beserk and insecure.

If you look at Arjun he is least concerned about the tantrums of these woman and is lost in his own world of dreams of wealth and power. For him Saanjh offers solace and Maya offers power. He needs both and at this point believes he will get it undisturbingly whenever he wants it.

He cares for any relation when it is at his face or when he sees serious trouble, otherwise it is my way or highway for him too.

So if you see all the 3 characters have my way or highway principle in various quantities just like you had mentioned in one of your posts, beyhadh or limitless of Arjun, Maya and Saanjh.

But all 3 of them will have to bend down in varying degress to know what life is. It can never be my way or highway for anyone. That principle will never help them to live, it will only take them to destruction along with the destruction of near and dear ones.

IKR? You can't not be a Sherlock enthusiast once you read the books or watched the show/movies. 😎

I haven't seen the shows you mentioned but I have heard a lot about them. I think they're all a little too graphic and violent for my taste and thus I have never come around to watch them. However, I know what you're talking about. Writing there (as in shows from across the globe) and writing here, there's a lot of a difference between the two. Indian tv, sadly, isn't yet fully capable of writing characters shows like Dexter, Breaking bad or other such shows offer. So, we can't even begin to compare these shows with those because if you do, you'll never be able to enjoy any Indian tv show no matter how good it may be.

Having said that, I really do think Beyhadh's doing a fairly well. We actually have a show on air that promises to break through the cycle of regressive content on tv and shows potential to fulfil those promises. I'll agree when you say that they're banking on Jennifer's popularity and acting skills but I'd also say Maya's a well-written character. Of course, there are inconsistencies here and there but she's still good, that is until the TRP factor decides to butcher the characters or the show itself. My only issue at the moment with the characterization of all characters, particularly Maya would be that the show takes it too slow. They give us some high points, then some low points, the pace is never consistent and the momentum slows down time and again.

I think when you want your audience to sympathize or empathize with your 'grey' character, there has to be a credible back story and explanation as to why the character is the way it is. Such a character needs some quality, some reason, some justification in order for the audience to be tethered to them or they'd just become an evil antagonist/villain. I love that quote from BB's creator. Assuming I had seen the show, with Dexter, I'd exactly do what Vince said, 'go with the ride no matter how far it goes' but I'd never be able to empathize with him, that's a given. With Maya, I'd like to be able to ride along with her still being able to get why she did/does what she did/does.😳

PS I am too not on board with any of the ships at the moment 😆 but I do like Maya and Saanjh.
