"Y-you sabotaged my -plans. How do you ex-plain that, Mr. Randhawa?" Priyanka spoke, ignoring his sneers.

"That doesn't answer my question" he replied, not finding it necessary to tell her why he cannot even remotely think of letting her travel alone while knowing how vulnerable she was to danger at that moment. He couldn't risk it.

They made their way out of the busy roadways of the city and took to the highway. It had gotten pretty late, the sun had set and the only light visible to them was that of the car's headlights. On finding no commuter traffic on the highway, Randhawa had been riding at a pretty high velocity and the speed was taking its toll on Priyanka.

"I -don't want to share such knowledge about my -personal life with you." Her fingers had resumed to fidget as she tried to mask her fear. Her experiences with high speed cars weren't very satisfying and she had started to avoid car rides altogether. The main reason why she had instead booked a bus ticket than calling a cab.

"W-why are you driving the car so fast" she continued. "D-don't you know traf- traffic rules?"

Randhawa had been accelerating the speed and ignoring Priyanka who kept sulking in her seat. She was getting chills down her spine and her breathing troubled her. She had even made an effort to distract herself by trying to focus on Ishq Hua that blared on the radio but not much luck. So irrelevant. She just wanted him to stop.

"I -think you should slow down" she spoke in her shaky voice, grabbing the dashboard in front of her. Her breath was so rugged by now that it became evident. Signs of a building panic attack.

ACP turned to look at her for once then quickly got his eyes back on the road.

"What's wrong?" He enquired.

"S-SLOW D-Own" her voice trembled, then slowly died. "Please."

"Miss Oberoi, hope you haven't forgotten that I am the warden of law here. I know the rules" he answered. "I'm not breaking the speed limit. And a little over 110 kmph isn't going to harm anyone, is it?"

Priyanka flinched at his words. Is he doing this on purpose?

Yes, he was. It wasn't long after they had taken the highway that he noticed a black SUV pulling up right behind them. He had seen it in while they were still in the city but now it became clear.

They were being followed.

Priyanka felt her heart freeze for just a second, before she let out a whimper.

"I told you, I told you she won't spare me!" Priyanka said, her voice an octave higher.

"And I told you, that I will not let anything happen," Ranveer snapped through gritted teeth. "Now, let me focus on the job at hand. Put on your seatbelt, and hold on to something."

And then he hit the accelerator.

Priyanka shut her eyes and tried her best to ignore the speed at which the car was travelling at. This was necessary evil, they had to get away from the SUV. She chanced a very quick glance back and saw that even though there was now quite a bit of distance between Ranveer's jeep and the SUV, they still hadn't lost the black vehicle.

Before she would point it out to Ranveer, she went crashing into his side, screaming, as Ranveer took a sharp turn to his left and exited the highway.

"Where are you -"

Another left turn.

"Can you please - "

Turn. This time to the right.

Priyanka shut her mouth for good after that, realizing that the next time she opened her mouth, the lunch she had had might make an impromptu appearance.

A few minutes (and several turns) later, she felt the jeep slow down, and dared to have a quick glimpse behind them.

"We lost it," she breathed.

"Well, look at that," Ranveer smirked, and Priyanka cleared her throat.

"T-thank y-you for c-coming along..." she very quietly thanked him, and she caught his smirk turning into a genuine smile, for just a fleeting second.

"We have to keeping going around this town for a while, before I can hit the highway again," he quietly explained to her after a few moments of silence, and Priyanka nodded her head.

It was minutes later that they realized there was something wrong with the car.

"Why are the headlights flickering?" Priyanka asked him.

"I don't know...that only happens when the battery is low..." he murmured, puzzled. He had had the jeep's battery changed just a month ago; surely it couldn't have drained so quickly?

It was while they were continuing down the quiet road at a normal speed with flickering headlights that Priyanka saw the black SUV again - heading straight towards them this time.

"Ranveer!"
