So I just watched the new segment with the ShivIka divorce papers, and I'm kind of really angry about it.
First off, what the heck was with that whole gift box thing? It just made everything so much more humiliating for Annika. Just that scene in itself made me want roll up in a ball, and swear off all things Ishqbaaaz related. And then I finished watching the segment, and I was so annoyed that I couldn't help but make this post, which in my opinion, is long overdue.
I just have one question to ask really, and that it, will the roles ever reverse?
From day one, Shivaay and Annika's fights and moments have been so cute, adorable and hilarious to watch, that we have all pretty much left something that has been staring us all in the face, completely unacknowledged.
Shivaay has always been in control.
His first scene, where he pushes through the line, to when he slaps Annika in the face with the money. It is his choice to start the fight. And when she retaliates, however immature it is, she is almost defending herself from his arrogance. Not letting him get the final word.
We've all been lulled into this fake equality thing that Gul Khan and her CVs have been trying to shove down our throats. Shivaay offends, Annika defends. Her comebacks, nicknames and water-throwing is a mere 5 year old child next to the mammoth that SSO's tender-stealing, house-destroying, borderline physical assault is. Really, Shivaay has always been in control. He has always played dirtier and gone far and beyond anything Annika has even considered doing.
He snatched away her tender.
He bought her house, and then attempted to destroy it.
He threw her in the pool, twisted her wrist, pushed her against him, and insinuated that if she didn't comply to his demands, he would assault her.
He attempted to buy her, to destroy her.
He freaking manhandled her again, fired her twice.
He almost confessed to her, but before she even had a chance to spot her feelings in the distance, he decided that he would retract it all.
He decided to get married, but got shitty when she decided to marry Daksh.
He got angry at her because she supposedly slept with her fiancee, even though he was getting married to another woman.
He took it upon himself to completely disregard her feelings, and follow through with his wedding.
He forcibly married her, without her consent.
He tried to take her mangalsutra off, without even considering her feelings about the marriage.
He decided that the marriage didn't matter, and pressed the same belief onto her, whether or not she agreed.
He declared Tia as his wife to the world, while his actual wife stood in the audience, watching the scene unfold.
He chose to sit down with Annika at the ring ceremony, and do it with her.
And now, yet again, he is giving her a divorce, and forcing her to go along with it.
When will it change? Will it ever change?
As harsh as the reality is, it is true. They are not equals.
When they say all this ishqbaazi ho to takkar ka ho crap, it makes me want to bang my head against a wall, because its not true.
Something twerping said in a post not long ago has really stuck. Even if we do get to see a redemption track, will it really be enough?
And no, I don't think it will.
I want Annika to be in control for once. For her to say no, for her to throw the divorce papers in his face, and tell him that she really couldn't care any less about him. I want him to beg, to pine, to cry, and for her to watch him slowly break in front of her, and not give a shit. I want her to make the decisions for once, and tell him that its her choice whether she wants a divorce, and she does, and she doesn't care if he now wants one or not. That in my eyes, would be the only way that Shivaay's redemption could be shown - to have a power switch.
Because karma is a bitch, and it needs to bite Shivaay Singh Oberoi hard.
Mind you, I don't want her to control him either. Rather, all I can hope is that after his redemption track is over (if it ever comes), they find a healthy equilibrium, and finally give an ounce of truth to Daadi's takkar ka theory.
Keyword being, hope.
