LOVE AND TEARS...
Chapter 1
Dev turned away from Sonakshi angrily. "There is no point in talking to you now when you are not willing to see reason Sona" he said. She said "Then please explain to me Dev. I am angry and hurt both - you know that". Dev did not say anything and turned away from her questioning eyes which were slowly filling with tears and sat down on his bed, with his back facing her. Sona was hurt and it was hurting him more to see her on the verge of a breakdown - damn he could never see tears in her eyes. Sona waited for a few minutes and said tearfully "Then you will not speak to me now. I am talking to you Dev - at least look at me". Dev did not turn back because the truth was that he didn't know where to start. He continued to stay silent when Sona spoke "Ok Dev I am leaving now. Goodbye" and walked out slamming the door. A few seconds after she slammed the door, Dev realized what happened. He ran after her shouting "Sona Sona wait ... listen to me.. Sona wait!!" and ran down the stairs. He bumped into his mother downstairs and she asked him "What happened why are you shouting so much?" Dev did not reply and rushed out of the main door just in time to see her get into the car and drive off angrily.
He stopped and went back in slowly. His maa was waiting for him and she asked him "What is happening Dev? First Sona rushed out crying. Now you ran behind her. Will you explain to me? Please...". Dev sat down on the dining table and poured himself a glass of water and was quiet. He did not look at his mother for some moments. Ishwari got worried and asked him again "Dev I am getting worried now. Please tell me what happened".
Dev finally looked up at his Maa and said "Why did you do this Maa? Today I was unable to look at Sona and explain anything?" Ishwari was shocked and she asked him "What did Sonakshi complain to you about. I have not done anything Dev. How can you question your own mother. Have you forgotten the values I have given you?". Dev was silent for a minute and then he said "Why did you get my signatures on the pre-nuptial papers without telling me? Didn't I tell you that Sona and I did not want that in our relationship? Of course I know she has not married me for money. Money is of least importance to her. All she wanted was love and respect. Which I failed in giving her in this house. I have failed as a husband and as a human being". Ishwari sat down on the chair next to Dev and said "I am sorry Dev. I was very selfish at that time". Dev said "I never paid heed to Sona's concerns. A few days I found out accidentally that she has taken a loan of Rs 25 lakhs to help Saurav in his business and she has also set up something on her own with him. I was very upset as to why did not tell me the full extent of her brother's financial problems. You know what she told me? She said - why should I tell you my brother's problems. When I told you about Neha you said I was an outsider. When I tried to tell you about Vicky's job you told me that it was your business and as far as Maa is concerned I am always treated as an outsider in this house". Dev then continued "I then spoke to my lawyer if we could pre pay the loan or something and do you know what he told me. He told me that I had signed the pre-nuptial papers without me knowing it and also he had managed to get Sona's signatures last month when I bought a flat in our joint names at Greater Kailash. Do you how much it hurt me at that time that my own mother lied to me." Dev was in tears by the time he completed.
Ishwari was stunned and she realized that what Dev was saying was true. She said "I am sorry Dev. I was blind in your love and I was scared that after you marry Sona she may take you away from me". Dev did not reply and IShwari continued "I was blinded by your love and couldn't tell you anything and that's why I always kept Sona away from family matters because I understood that she can manage this home much better than me. I was sacred of losing importance and relevance in this home". Dev listened to her and said slowly "You have no idea how much Sona loves me and you and this family. She tried her best to make Neha understand but was always misunderstood. She cares a lot for you Maa and she was very hurt every time that you pushed her away. Now with the pre-nuptial thing I don't know how will I ask her to forgive me". Ishwari said "Shall I call her and speak to her?" Dev said "No need Maa. I will go and pick her up from the hospital in the evening and then get her home and we can talk to her". Ishwari says softly "I must apologize to her".
Dev nodded and went back to his room. He picked up their wedding photo from the side table and looked at it. They looked so happy in that picture. He said "Sona I am not giving up on us. Give me one last chance. Please dont give up on me".
Meanwhile Sona reached the hospital and parked her car at the designated spot and went in to the 4th floor where she was the head of the Pediatric surgeryl team. She took a deep breath and pushed open the door and found her favourite Matron Namrata on duty. "Hi Namrata" she said and went into her room. Namrata followed her and said "Here is your list of surgeries for the day and I have kept the files in the same order as well so that you can go through this once before the operation" Sona smiled at her said "Thanks. I think I have two hours before the first surgery isn't it?". Namrata nodded and said "Yes. Can I ask you something? Why are you looking so upset. Is everything alright?" Sona just said "Nothing that cant be resolved".
Namrata went out and closed the door softly. Sona got up and went to the window and thought to herself "Was I too harsh on Dev? I did not give him a chance to speak or explain also. After all Baba also kept quiet on this whole pre-nuptial matter. I also hid Dada's financial problems from him after all!" As the minutes ticked by Sona thought "Should I call him? No maybe I will drop him a text and call him after the surgery around 2 PM". Satisfied that she arrived at a decision she picked up her phone and typed a message "Sorry main gusse mein thi aur aapko baat karne ka mauka nahin diya. I am getting into a surgery now and I will call you after two".
Dev was just leaving for work when he got the message. He was happy reading the message and decided to go and meet her at 2 PM at the hospital. He just replied "I am also sorry my love. I will wait for your call". He left for work in a slightly better frame of mind. When he reached his office, he noticed that the message had not been delivered. He was faintly worried about it and realized that Sona sometimes switched off her phone before a surgery as she didn't want to get distracted. Well he thought "I will not mess up this time and will speak to her and clear all her fears this time. As he got into his room, he asked Tina to make a reservation at Taj Mansingh at Sona's favorite restaurant for dinner tonight for just the two of them.
Dev sat down at his desk and smiled. He hoped that tonight would signify a new beginning for both of them.
