LOVE AND TEARS...

Chapter 2

Around 1 PM, Tina barged into Dev's room when he was in a meeting with a prospective client. Dev looked at her surprised and asked her impatiently "What was it that was so urgent that it couldn't wait till this meeting is over?" Tina did not say anything and just switched on the television in Dev's room and changed to the news channel. When Dev saw the news that was just breaking he got so shocked that he got up and just stared at the screen. Tina the said softly "I just found out and thought that you should know immediately".

The newscaster was meanwhile saying, staring at the camera "Four armed men are believed to have broken into the JLS Hospital in New Delhi about twenty minutes back. Guns shots were heard and now there is total silence and the main gates of the hospital have been closed. The anti riot force and the police are all on their way to the hospital. The hospital is one of the oldest and best in the countries with the pediatric surgical ward being quite famous."

For a minute, Dev did not know what to think and what to do. This could not be happening. His visitor realized immediately and said "I think we should continue another time. Let me know if I could be of any help". Dev said "I am not in a frame of mind to discuss business now. Thanks for understanding".

As soon as he left, he told Tina "Find out as much as you can. Meanwhile let me call her once". Tina nodded and went out. Dev dialed Sona's mobile which was switched off and then he tried her desk which went unanswered. Picking up his mobile and his car keys he rushed out of his room. As he was going out Tina said "No one is answering the phone". Dev paused and said "Keep trying please and call me when u are able to speak to someone". As Dev got into the car, his phone rang and as soon as he saw the number he frowned and his heart skipped a beat. "Hello Baba. Yes I heard and saw the news. I am just going to the hospital now to find out more. Please don't panic. I will call you as soon as I find out something. OK as Saurav to meet me there". He disconnected and realized that Sona had inherited her cool and clinical nature from her father. He imagined how hyper his own mother would be when she found out. As Dev drove there were more calls from the family - Maa, Nikki and Rhea and even Neha. Nikki was inconsolable and kept crying on the phone till he had to agree to Nikki and Rhea coming to the hospital to check own their Sona Bhabhi. He convinced Neha to stay at home with their Maa.

As he neared the Hospital he found that the road leading to the hospital had been cordoned off. He tried Sona's number for probably the fiftieth time. There was no reply.

He parked his car to the side and got out of the car and locked it. He started walking towards the hospital when the cops stopped him. The cop told him "Aap nahin jaa sakte hain". Dev said agitated "How can you stop me - my wife is a doctor at the hospital and she is stuck inside". Meanwhile there were manu friends and family members who were crowding round the place, the only thing common among them being that they were all worried for the people stuck inside the hospital.

Dev closed his eyes and immediately called the ACP of Delhi Police whom he knew socially. He said "Parth you have to help me. I need to reach Sona - She is on duty on the 4^th floor at the hospital and there are so many children there. Tell your officers to at least let me into the cordoned off area. I need to be close to her". Parth knew that there was no point in trying to reason with Dev as would find other ways and means to get in". Parth spoke to the officer on duty and Dev managed to get into the cordoned off area.

Once he got in he walked towards the hospital and wondered where Sona was and what was she doing. He thought to himself "Sona nothing can happen to you. I need to say sorry to you. I cant live without you and you know it. Damn it ... I need to hold you in my arms. You know isn't it how much I love you!" Dev was so overwhelmed with the tears and a fear that something may happen to Sona that he may not be able to see her again that he just sat down on a bench at the bus stop just outside the hospital. Once he was able to calm his heart he kept telling himself "Dev gather yourself and your courage. Think what Sona would have done in your place now. Nothing will happen to you Sona. As long as my heart is beating I know that you are ok". Dev then checked the time on his Rolex "2PM". He couldn't believe that it was just an hour ago that he was sitting with a client in his office and making plans for a romantic dinner with his wife for the evening.

Hello asha di...am a big fan of ur writing...I read The last Farewell and i got teary -eyed with it's sad ending😭😭 and then u wrote One Rainy Day...which was again a beautiful story and i smiled reading it throughout😃...and there u are again with a wonderful write up Love and Tears...i was biting my nails towards the end of 2nd chap thinking what will happen next...very intriguing story😲😲...pls update asap
