Chp. 1 ~ The Chase
"He's getting away!"
ACP Ranveer Singh Randhawa sat in his car, observing the interaction that was playing out as Shinde interrogated Raman 'Cheetah', a close aide of Babu Takla - a local gang-leader with a series of kidnapping and extortion charges to his name. The man had become a menace lately, after his ambitions started sky-rocketing and he had begun spreading his wings in the political circles, in an attempt to rise up the ladder in the city's nefarious circles - the latest being the kidnapping of an MLA's daughter. It was believed that the opposition party had a role to play behind the scenes. To avoid giving them any leverage and keep the matter under wraps, away from the media vultures, the MLA wanted his daughter back within the next few hours. Randhawa had promised to trace the girl before nightfall, but not because it was a high profile case, rather because an innocent child's life was at stake. The media could go into a frenzy about the matter for all he cared, he wasn't here to pander to the whims and fancies of the rich, who believed they owned the law and the system. Randhawa had a job to do and finding the child and keeping her safe was his prerogative.
Tracing Raman had been a task but once they had the man, nabbing Babu Takla wouldn't be very difficult. Raman had a clear track record as it helped the functioning of Takla's gang, so apprehending him wasn't possible, and from the looks of it, Shinde would soon need backup.
Within a split second, the man struck, and true to his name, took off. Rawat and Khan sprang into action from their hiding places but the man was paces ahead. As Raman neared Randhawa's car, the door was suddenly pushed open and the man ran smack into it, reeling from the impact as his head hit the concrete. Randhawa stepped out and effortlessly cuffed a wrist.
"Time to go visit an old friend, my man."

"Shinde, what's the update on the Gayatri murder case?" Randhawa asked as he entered into his office, where he had just returned after rescuing the MLA's daughter.
Gayatri Tambe had become a popular name in the Worli police station, lately, because of her association with the Oberois. Before her murder, she had been accused of multiple attacks on the life and property of the Oberois.
"Rawat has been looking into Gayatri's background. Gayatri Tambe was 52 years old, lived in a 1-BHK flat in Wadala. She was married to Ashok Tambe for 30 years, until his death in June, earlier this year. Ashok committed suicide by setting himself on fire at the Maha Aarti event of the Oberois but the matter wasn't covered by any media outlet," Shinde replied, consulting the notes he had jotted down earlier during his discussion with Rawat.
"What was Ashok Tambe aiming at with such a public spectacle, I wonder."
"The biggest social event of the year, has full media coverage and yet, not a single channel or tabloid reports the incident. Isn't it weird, Sir?" asked Shinde.
"That's how the rich roll, Shinde. Money can buy them the world, or so they think," Randhawa scoffed. "What else do you have there?"
"After the incident, Gayatri made it her mission to avenge her husband's death by making the life of the Oberois a living hell. She's targeted them multiple times, especially Shivaay Singh Oberoi," continued Shinde.
"That gives Shivaay Singh Oberoi ample motives to get rid of Gayatri," mused Randhawa, as he toyed with the paperweight on his desk.
"Maybe, Sir. Or, maybe not."
"And you think so because?"
"Shivaay has faced the maximum number of personal attacks from Gayatri - right from a car blast to tampering with his chopper and even poisoning him, the woman left no stone unturned in turning his life upside down, to the extent that it would make one think that she has a personal vendetta against him. If that wasn't enough, she picked key days for the attacks - like the day of his engagement, the day of an important deal and so on. Despite all this, Shivaay Singh Oberoi hasn't taken matters into his own hands. He has always pressured Rathore Sir to take strict action against Gayatri and not let her off the hook easily. The only time he lost it and threatened her in public, before a throng of reporters and camera crew, was when she had shot his younger brother, Rudr Singh Oberoi," Shinde explained.
"So Shivaay Singh Oberoi cares more for his siblings than himself. But if anything, this only makes his motive stronger."
"But doesn't he have an alibi for the night of Gayatri's murder, Sir? His employee, Anika, testified to the fact that he was with her that night."
"She's lying through her teeth, Shinde."
"And the CCTV footage?"
"It just shows the time of his entry, not the time of his exit."
"So you mean - "
"There's more here than meets the eye, Shinde. It's time to talk to Omkara Singh Oberoi."
