She is apparently from Bangalore. She has a sister called Sakshi shivanand (shilpa must have shortened her name from shivanand to anand) who is an actor in Kannada films - she(sakshi) also did a hindi movie called 'aap ko pehle kabhie dekha hai' or something like that.

There was a scandal a few years years ago - shilpa and sakshi are said to be twins or look very similar and when people signed sakshi to act in their movies, apparently shilpa sometimes stood in for her!!😆 and directors very angry with both of them...

Which is why her acting seems to be better than the others'.
