I just returned from the movie and I loved, loved, loved it.
I loved it for its love for Bollywood. I loved it for Ranbir's and Anushka's performance, which is brilliant. I loved it for how strong and sorted all the women were. And I absolutely loved it for its take on love - there are so many kinds of love, and so many of them more meaningful and greater than romantic love. Honestly, this is better than anything Karan Johar has ever done.

OMFG! I'm too emotional write a proper review yet. I am going to see it tomorrow with my best friend. There are flaws in the film. But this is Karan Johar we are talking about. However - there are so so many scenes and sequences which were very fragile and complex but Karan created MAGIC like I've never seen EVER in any film omg šThe first half was so FILMY I was worried. There were laugh out loud moments which were great but I wanted to skip right to the crying bits šI honestly can't believe how WELL Karan wrote/directed the INTENSELY complicated relationship between Alizeh-Ayan šš¼ so mature, so realistic, so heart-wrenching š„ŗ - and certainly not filmy. It was a very brave take on love for Bollywood - or ANY -wood.I know it's early days but this has got to be Ranbir Kapoor's best performance.Anushka Sharma š omg this girl!!! I think she will be remembered for this role. It is her Mother India!!Aishwarya was gorgeous in a short but impactful role.Fawad Khan's dialogue delivery is so effortless. He's so talented.I need to see it again!!!!!!

For me all through the film i was in awe and praises except except the last 30 mins:( I wish that were not there and the movie endedwithout "that track"
Okay probably not the best way to start a review but then since few hours now i have been weeping *not or notš* about the end and since my friends couldnt take my nautanki anymore i came here :D
The first half of the movie is beautiful!! It aint really a typical charater, i mean kjo might have taken a few movie background scores and dialogues but then ayan and alizeh stand pretty well on their own!! Their chemitry is awesome and there is no damn way that one wouldt root for their beautiful freindship.
Saba aah she is pretty and does what she has to do! The ayan saba part is shown in such a manner that it makes sure one wouldnt root for them. Srks camoe plays an important role in the script :p Fawad š¤ I personally wanted them to show one two scenes that could help the viewers get a hold of ali and alizehs love.
There was a point were they could have ended the story beautifully with the original concept of unrequited love but then they decided to get in the additional track. The last part in my opinion wasnt necessary!!
All in all a beautiful film!! especially the first half, ayan-alizeh āļø
4/5
Those who like ranbir/anushka should definetly give it a watch, they are brilliant in the movie:D

Am sorry if this sounds condescending but KJo honestly doesn't deserve an actor of Ranbir's caliber. The only reason his films have worked so far at least for me is because he casts really charming actors with great chemistry. Basically those who can sell mediocre plots on screen. Am probably being really harsh here but Karan is a terrible terrible director and the worst part is he also ruins all the good directors the moment they collaborate with him š Anyways coming to the film, it's just all over the place. At one point, it's contrived melodrama at its best. The first half is really entertaining though and it's such a shame Karan couldn't maintain the momentum. On that note, how good is Lisa Haydon. She looks hot and has the most entertaining cameo in the film š KJo is so stuck up on the idea of unrequited love that it gets really tiring after a point. We get it dude. Unrequited love is the bestest feeling ever and gives you a high and makes you a fabulous singer and makes you intense and poetic and everything. We got it the first time it was mentioned. At one point you don't even get why one character is in love with the other and why we are supposed to marvel at their unrequited love š The irony is that you managed to convey it better in that one scene in KKHH when Anjali comes to confess to Rahul and he inadvertently breaks her heart by revealing that he loves Tina. But then KJo hates subtlety so I get why he had to repeat it so many times š Coming to the performances, call me biased but Ranbir was fabulous. Yeah there were still those scenes where he came across as contrived but overall he freaking owned Ayaan. So uninhibited and nonchalant. He played the emotional loser to the T. Anu was OTT in a few scenes but she generally lights up the screen and looked gorgeous. Ash was gorgeous and bland as ever. She always has this made up and fake way of delivering her lines and it's no different here. Anyways to cut the long story short, I dint exactly like the film and am tired of saying Ranbir was awesome but the movie sucks š And he is probably the only reason I don't regret watching it. Must be quite a fan uh. Damn you Ranbir š
Just back from ADHM
Not entirely satisfying ..Watchable in parts. After a stellar first half ,the second half goes for a complete toss ..The twist in the tale is so unwanted that you feel like you are watching a diluted version of Katti Batti .Everything just falls apart at this point .The film has a decent start. The chemistry between Ranbir-Anushka keeps you hooked .They look so made for each other .The first is so breezy that you absolutely enjoy the ride. There is a constant smile on your face .The 15 minutes before the interval are probably the best part of the movie .Raw emotions that tug at your heart..Unfortunately the joy is short lived. The romance between Aish-Ranbir appears half baked post interval .No build up to their story .The pacing also gets really slow. The twist also does not work for it appears out of no where .Ranbir does well .Anushka is a major highlight .Natural performance and looks breath-ta-kingly gorgeous .Aish has a small role and does justice to it.Overall a mixed bag .Can be given a watch if you have nothing else to do2.5/5

The first half is full of fun, I did not even realise that it was interval time already. The dialogues are funny as well as the anecdotes... second half is a bit of drag... could have done with 15-20 mins less.
For me the standout performance was that of Ranbir and I am not even his fan. The movie belongs to him. Anushka is a bit shaky initially.. found her to be overacting sometimes in the first 10-15 mins but she was good later. Special mention to Lisa - she was excellent in the role.
What did not work with me was that I could
Not emotionally connect with the movie, as I normally do in most KJo movies. It is a one time watch mainly for its first half. I would give 3/5 to this.
Note: there is a surprise element in the movie for Fawad fans š

Just got back from the theater and wanted to put down my thoughts before I forget anything! š
Spoilers ahead folks!
The first half of the movie is kickass! Man the whole theater was just cracking up in almost every other scene! You don't even realize how quickly the first half gets over because it's that effing good! Now I haven't gone through the pages here so don't know what the "general" opinion is but for me the stand out performance is Ranbir's! He effing owns the screen when he's on it! I went in with the perception that I'll probably end up loving Anushka's performance more since I did love her in the teaser , the trailer and the songs but Ranbir...damn! The guy is so good! Ayaan is not a easy character to pull off to be honest. He is lively , he wears his heart on his sleeve, he is endearing , he is childlike and Ranbir so effortlessly portrayed each of those qualities. There is a scene in the first half where Ayaan goes to this dancing class with Alizeh...omggg! š The whole theater is just lost it during that scene because it was hilarious! Ranbir's dancing...š.
Now coming to Anushka , I thought she was damn good man! Some of my favorite scenes are the ones where Ayaan and Alizeh just bicker with each other during the first half. But if I had to pick some of her best scenes , it would probably be the one that happens right outside of Saba's house and the one at the end which happens in her apartment , where she tells him for the millionth time that she loves him but can't love him the way he wishes she would. I thought the girl slayed those scenes.
Aishwarya was quite good as well. My only issue was the scene where she breaks up with Ayaan. I just thought she had used way too much glycerin man! š To the point where it was slightly distracting as her eyes were just too darn red! Her chemistry with Ranbir was on point though! I really liked their morning after scene a lot!
Fawad...sighhh! Let me just state that there was a lot of cheering (initiated by us , followed by the rest of the theater š) during his scenes! š I don't think Fawad has looked this hot in any other role! The beard look , the leather jackets...I mean ...yeah.... His screentime though wasn't 30 minutes , I thought he was on screen for like fifteen minutes or so. He kept appearing every now and then but I'm guessing some editing did take place as the scene that we saw in the trailer where he is hugging Anushka from behind wasn't there. But I have to say every second of his screentime is worth it! š You know how good an actor he's when you can't take your eyes off him while he's on screen and no..it ain't just because he's hot! š His scene with Ranbir as the end approaches was probably my favorite along with the dancing he did in CutiePie! I know I'm going on and on about Fawad but you guys got to check him out in CutiePie...for anyone who thinks the dude can't dance ...breaking news for you...he sure as hell can! š
Let's get on to the cameos :
Lisa was effing hilarious man! Her scenes were just too funny!
Imran , I didn't really find all that great.
Alia was damn good in cameo!
Now coming to Shahrukh...sigh! I love Shahrukh with all my heart and the whole theater went bonkers when he came on screen (including us) and because of that I ended up missing a few dialogues too but having said that , I will say that I didn't think it was a great performance. I thought he overdid it a bit. I was digging the scene as soon as he came on screen and started talking but as it went on , I thought he could have taken a slightly subtle approach. Also I don't know what was going on but his eyes too appeared red! As in not as red as Aishwarya š but his lower lids were red man and I was like what is going on! š Did anyone else notice this or is it just me?
So all in all...ADHM has a killer first half. It's the second half where issues start cropping up in the script. I'm sure the people who have watched the movie know the ending by now and I have to say , I wish they hadn't gone with that ending they did man. Like the movie just goes in a different zone as soon you get to know about Alizeh's illness. I feel like to many that turn in the script would come across as a cop out. I wish Karan would have instead just ended the movie with them being a part of each other's life. I don't quite get the need for the ending he had here. That kind of ending is apt for a movie like KHNH since the whole storyline sort of moves ahead that way but here it sort of comes out of the left field man.
So overall...it was definitely worth the watch for me.I'll probably watch it one more time! And then a few more times when it airs on screen! šThe performances are damn good , Esp Ranbir and Anushka's , the music is stellar , the first half will make your stomach hurt from all the laughter, the second half although not perfect definitely has its moments too!
I guess that's it! I'd give it 3/5. Can't wait to read y'alls reviews now!

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Fawad Khan, Lisa Haydon, Imran Abbas, Shah Rukh Khan
Director: Karan Johar
Perhaps it's fitting that Karan Johar, whose very first film addressed themes of abiding friendship and the pain of unrequited romantic love, should revisit those themes nearly 20 years later, armed with the maturity that comes with time and age. The result, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, is easily Johar's best film since his widely polarizing extramarital love story Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna from 2006.
Operating well within the comfort of a world that is familiar to him - namely rich, good-looking NRIs disconnected from the trials and tribulations of us normal folk - Johar crafts a surprisingly sensitive, and for the most part genuinely moving drama whose biggest strength is unarguably the terrific performances of its two leads.
Bound by a shared love of cheesy Bollywood songs from the 80s, Londoners Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor), a wannabe singer, and Alizeh (Anushka Sharma) become thick friends after an awkward hook-up attempt at a party, and in the wake of their respective breakups with meaningless partners (a scene-stealing Lisa Haydon in his case, a stiff Imran Abbas in hers). His friendship with Alizeh turns quickly into romantic attraction for Ayan, but her deep affection for him remains firmly platonic.
Over two hours and thirty minutes, Johar puts his protagonists through an emotional wringer, testing what's between them with the appearance of exes (Fawad Khan), new lovers (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), and ultimately an un-vanquishable villain.
In many ways Ae Dil Hai Mushkil evokes the romantic complexities of Yash Chopra's later films, while echoing the intensity of Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. But it's got Johar's stamp all over it, from the witty dialogue exchanged between the principals, the tendency to self-reference the filmmaker's earlier hits (which can be exhausting sometimes), and his skill at mining laughs from seemingly serious situations.
There is maturity in the new film, a leaning towards the real and the relatable that has evaded some of the director's previous films. Sure characters and spaces still look like they're straight out of a fashion glossy, and the pressure on aesthetics is almost overwhelming. But this is Johar's cinema, and while much has evolved and improved over the years, there is a lot that feels comfortably familiar. Music has always been integral to the director's films, and Pritam contributes a bunch of winning tracks that are skillfully woven into the narrative.
The key to engaging with the film, however, is investing in its characters. Sporting a straight-off-the-runway look Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, although saddled with clunky lines in the role of an Urdu poet, leaves a lasting impression in her limited screen time. In one particular scene, a teary confrontation, she conveys volumes with minimal lines.
Anushka Sharma, playing a tricky part that could easily come off as selfish, grounds the character in sheer practicality, and does some of her best work here. It's Ranbir Kapoor, though, who walks away with top honors, delivering a performance that doesn't miss a beat. From comical to heartbroken to confused, his face is a canvas of complex emotions, and he makes his every moment on screen count. It's an excellent return to form for the actor who'd been all but written off after a spate of failures recently.
Despite the occasionally mawkish undertones and the blatant attempt at emotional manipulation in its final act, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil gives you a hero that makes you care. I suspect you'll be a slobbering mess at the end of the film, a puddle of tears when the lights come back on. Johar knows how to do that. It's a skill that's stayed with him even if his grammar has changed.
I'm going with three-and-a-half out of five. Prepare yourself for a good cry.
The film opens with Ranbir Kapoor's character, Ayan, talking to an interviewer. She commends the singer on the fact that he's broken through and found a foothold in music, "that too non-film," and in a couple of lines, he calls his love "aamir" " which is to say the kind that cannot die. It is an atypical choice of word, and a couple of seconds later when we meet young Ayan fumbling around and proving to be a feeble kisser, it is clear that the nuanced usage of the word, the Persian use over the Urdu use, isn't a part of his vocabulary. At least not yet. Over the course of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, this character learns to feel, to address, and to speak.
Karan Johar's new film casts Kapoor in that clueless persona the actor has often inhabited, but chooses to hand the reigns of the narrative " and, indeed, of the young man's heart " to Anushka Sharma, who delivers a performance effervescent enough to win over cynics and yank at their kerchiefs. In fact, between Sharma's electrifying and unapologetic Alizeh and Aishwarya Rai's quip-carrying poetess Saba, Johar makes sure we know his women know better. And yet they may not be the better off for it.
This is a mature, relatively intense film and, in many ways, Karan's least compromised work. There is something humane and naked about the sentiment expressed here, despite the glitz, and it throbs with palpable intensity. It is an emotionally bare film about an entirely unprepared young lover, and the vulnerability feels disarmingly real. It feels almost personal. Karan introduces us to his loquacious leads and lets them do the talking " an awful lot of talking " without feeling the need for extraneous comedy or even supporting characters who aren't germane to the affairs in the middle. Karan Johar has finally cut loose the extended familial ties; this one is all about loving.
Ayan is a rake, a blissful wastrel with a private jet and little to do, and an eye that sees him impulsively tail women who catch his fancy. He sees Alizeh vogueing energetically on a dancefloor and " after she takes charge, paying for drinks and overhauling his plans " finds himself immediately, understandably besotted. The two are Bollywood-referencing bewaqoof younglings, after all, wealthy beyond worry and drawn to each other's brand of mad energy. She proclaims that she, like raita, lays herself out because that's just who she is, and he, perhaps like paapad, has dipped into her lunacy and now longs to dive in.
Both actors are on fire from the start. Kapoor plays the brat brilliantly, his Ayan restless and fitful with misplaced anger and misguided affection. His mask of coolness slips early on " even MDMA makes him wail like a hurt baby " and Sharma's beguiling Alizeh takes charge, deciding what and where they'll do. The two have an infectiously giddy dynamic, an immediately crackling chemistry that can't be denied. It is, thus, a shame that Johar chooses to drown their bubbly banality with an incessant background score that makes it sound like someone in the theatre has left their phone on.
As with all immediately heady chemistry, things get sticky. The two come closer but then we meet Alizeh's eye-wideningly handsome paramour, which sends Ayan's world careening into the worst kind of spiral. That said, stomping around an airport after a wedding, looking like Mogambo with a rucksack, Ayan encounters a woman who immediately takes his breath away. This woman, Saba, proceeds to smash back his verbal lobs with practiced ease while he keeps talking about blushing " even when he isn't.
It is, then, a love rectangle. It just feels more personal. When a cleanly shaved Kapoor preens in front of a mirror, mehndi on his hands and a smile exulting in his own prettiness " with concealer, just this once, masking that scar under his right cheek we see all the time " he looks freshly plucked, stripped by love and utterly open to the guillotine. His optimism feels frightening. On one end is a girl who revels in passing judgement and on the other, a woman so used to compliments that she doesn't feel the need to acknowledge them, or to be falsely modest. As you might have surmised, he's hurtling head first into disaster, but we can't look away.
Johar has improved massively as a storyteller, this film more polished and assured than anything he's done before. Sure, this is a highly glossy film " and only in a Johar production will people at a headphone party dance in choreographed fashion to the same damn song, and a bag from Shakespeare & Co contain clothes instead of books " but the gloss, like foundational makeup, is there to hold these excruciatingly attractive people and their excruciating problems in place. It suits the world instead of dictating it, and the film looks terrific.
As the princely DJ, Fawad Khan has far too little to do in this film " though even a role with him on-screen throughout the film wouldn't have justified the ridiculous kerfuffle his casting has caused " but looks perfect for the part. Aishwarya Rai looks stunning as well, but is markedly ill at ease handling unwieldy urdu couplets. Her eyes have helplessness and longing but she lets down well-conceived lines that deserved far better. This is a Julia Roberts type of role, and Ms Rai emerges this film's feeblest link.
Kapoor is super at being charming but has developed a specialisation in cluelessness, and both sides shine through in this winning, woeful performance. Playing a singer, he embraces syncing mannerisms beautifully " the guy would rule at Dubsmash " and it's lovely to watch him play off Sharma. He lights up for her, he powers down for her, and the film belongs to the actress who strikingly, come what may, sticks to her guns. Even if all she's doing is patiently let a weeping boy kiss her on the head. At one point, as he tries inexpertly to drape a saree around her (so that they can roleplay Yashraj-Yashraj) she looks at him wistfully, overcome by a love that is both too strong and yet not strong enough.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a film about tedha love' " crooked love, love that refuses to stay straight " and about the unshared, pure potency of unrequited passion. It is a film about words long and sharp, elaborate and precise, and about the way we muck up and often manage to slip " inadequately and without definition " between them and between the lines. The heart wants what it wants, and sometimes all we need is a compelling reason to cry. Thank you, Karan Johar. For this film feels like a sob.

One of his best characters to date so well writtenAnushka faltered at some scenes (over-acting) but overall was nice. I bought their friendship a lot but their love story? Not that much.Aishwarya was stunning and had SO MUCH CHEMISTRY with Ranbir. I wish Saba had gotten more closure tbh.Fawad was nice in his scenes and best scene was him and RK's scene.Channa Mereya was the highlight of the movie for me - so beautifully done. Arijit's voice + those outfits + acting ---> perfectionSRK's cameo was TO DIE FOR!!! I wanted to cry seeing Dev and Pao reunite on-screen <3 The way he delivered the dialogues, the "ek tarfa ka pyaar" dialogue delivery was on point. Such a great cameo.Lisa, Imraan, and Alia also had nice cute cameos. Lisa is hilarious lmao.Overall if you want a paisa-wasool movie that does make you think about love a lot and is well-acted (editing let it down sooo much) watch it!Total Diwali fun š

Ok here my review.
EDIT: those are my first and raw thoughts, didn't much analyze the movie. I might come back to that topic giving new thoughts about the movie.First, let me tell you how tough it was for me to catch the movie as only two theaters were playing the movie in Paris. One, on the famous Champs Elyses Road that was fully booked by the time I reached (full of the Indian Embassy members and families which pissed me off). The other one, in the suburbs of Paris, in an area I have never been to before. So it was quite an adventure I must say. But I was so excited by the idea of finally watching ADHM that I couldn't miss it and wait any longer.Let's just say that there were moments of magic (two for me, where I stopped breathing and just felt the scene like the protagonists were doing) but it could have been more powerful, more magical, more wonderful. But it lacked something. My ideas are quite confused as I have just left the theatre. Let's just say that I wasn't upper excited during the movie, looking at my watch to hope that some minutes, hours are still running.I enjoyed the movie. I loved - like true love - the music especially the songs that we didn't hear so far (the acoustic version of Channa Mereya was so delicate).Surprisingly, I wasn't much impressed by my favorite Anushka. I felt she was overacting the first scenes and her interaction with Ranbir's character was sometimes cute sometimes odd. She is surely beautiful in the movie and her character Alizeh, weird and snob, was then interesting through the movie.Ranbir and Anushka do have chemistry for sure but it wasn't wow. On the other hand, the first scenes between Ayan and Saba are super hot and really brought something to the movie. When it comes to the story, I was surprised that the spoilers I read where false which was a good news. But still I wasn't either much into the story. It was simplistic way to simplistic that sometimes I wonder if it is a 40+ year old guy who wrote the scenario. Some dialogues were flat while others where fun.On the whole, the movie is pretty decent/good but nothing memorable. As I grew up watching KJO's movies and hating most of them - except KHNH that I deeply love (even though I'm not sure if today I would still love it as much as I used to) - let's say this one is one of his bests. I felt ADHM had potential to be much more but I usually forgot that few BW movies manage to reach that level. Regarding the kind of masala movies we are served this one is definitely one of the top of the last couple of years. It has some YJHD and some Tamasha which, I believe, doesn't make Ranbir's performance memorable. To sum-up, ADHM is nice to watch (couple of tears I must admit) thanks to its beautiful shooting, AMAZING OST and few gorgeous scene (especially the one with Ranbir and Anushka dancing a valse) but could have been much better if the story had more depth regarding the subject (unrequited love), a better editing (some times I felt they edited the movie in the rush spoiling some scenes) and more interesting characters.

So i watched ADHM - There is only one world to describe it - Underwhelming.
Despite being a very realistic take on love, friendships and human relations, i couldn't connect to Ayan or Alizeh. Maybe the hyper active mode of laughing and drinking while so heartbroken is incomprehensible for me that is why or because i believe the storlyline was not convincing. KJo opted for a very easy option in the end to bring in tragedy. As an audience i could clearly see through that just to bring in a sobfest you include something like this ( not posting what because dont want to post spoilers)I don't want to sound blunt but Ranbir and Anushka's performance was below average. Anushka COULD NOT carry off the bubbly girl who is heartbroken, she lacked conviction. I was fondly reminded how WONDERFULLY Kareena potyrayed Geet in the latter part of Jab We Met. Anuskha went over board, as for Ranbir, i dont know what KJo was thinking, Ayan was a confused character who appeared as mentally unstable in a few scenes. Its all the director's fault. Karan was too scared to make an outright dark film so he threw in some songs and colours and foreign locations and gave his leads witty lines, which unfortunately didnot work, atleast not for me.I waited and waited for one moment where i could connect but i couldnt. What saves the movie are its cameos - Tahir, Saba and Ali. Surprisingly i wanted to know more about the three of them then Ayan or Alizeh. I want to know what happened between Tahir and Saba .. why did they seperate, where did Saba go off after? I want to know what happened with Ali. These three cameos get to speak the most beautiful lines of the story.Maybe that is where KJo went wrong, he focussed too much on the camoes that the entire emotion he wanted to convey was delivered by the camoes instead of the leads, and thus the leads only appeared as half baked characters.I feel bad for Ranbir, that boy had put in his heart and soul, but KJo drowned him. Anushka i don think will get effected as she is already getting praises. SRK & Fawad are already established. Fawad looked absolutely HANDSOME, and his effortless chemistry with alizeh was wonderful! Bollywood will miss Fawad!, however but Ash is going to benefit the most, and she deserves too.She looked STUNNING, her performance was beautiful, her last scene with Ranbir was the most beautiful scene of the movie according to me.On the whole - 2/5and these 2 marks are just for the cameos - three powerful performers who carried the movie on thier shoulders despite being cameos, the leads, the direction and the screenplay was half baked, also even the music during the film seemed average.

Just finished watching the movie
I would have honestly given the movie a very generous 8/10 if it wast for the pathetic melodramatic twist Kjo brought towards the ends. As a result my rating comes down to a 6/10.
Still very generous, especially if you consider the fact that I hate Rk-Ash-KJo and am no massive fan of Anu either š
Will try to post a more detailed review tomorrow... Right now I am very tired and sleepy.

just back from 10.30 pm show in chennai... had very high hopes and was expecting an another rockstar... was disappointed completely... except the time around when channa mereya comes (15 mins around interval) and bits and pieces in 2nd half, it was very directionless and couldn't connect at all... i wasn't even close to shedding a single drop of tear in any scene... btw, srk's part was nice... ek tarfa pyaar wala dialog is from him in the movie and said very brilliantly... songs have few variations from the actual album and the variation is nice... acting was top notch from all.. one word - below average movie
Movie review
I had HIGH hopes which went down the drain. Not impresed with the movie. I love kjo movies but with this one I couldn't connect at all.I don't understand why ayan falls for alizeh in the first place. Rk n anu are good but they have no passionate chemistry. They give me buddy vibes.Kjo's script is half baked as well. I wish he had explored ayan saba and ali alizeh more.Alizeh's passionate love storh with ali isnt explained. So we dont understand her reasons. It is pretty much of a hotch potch plot. I wish kjo had given more time to his writing.Aish looks stunning. Fawad is charming. Lisa is funny. Imran is okay. Songs are good. But overall pretty average.

unlike a very popular opinion here I'm someone who loved the second half though last 30 mins could have been cut by say 5-10 mins... For me the real movie started after the Channa mereya sequence... What a performance by both ranbir and Anushka in that scene... The first 30-40 mins served actually no purpose except to establish ranushka friendship bond... Had that part been edited better or cut short a little it could have been a better movie... It did have some witty and lolworthy lines to keep you entertained enough but after a point you wait for the actual plot to begin... And it does begin with the entry of fawad khan... He was good in the small role done complete justice to his role.. Though he didn't have any opportunity to showcase any range in his acting...Aishwarya god the woman can look so gorgeous and elegant and yet sensuous at the same time... For me Atleast the 30 mins or so of ranbir - ash took the entire cake and I'm saying this as someone who was shipping ranbir - Anushka...Srk- that small cameo took my heart away... When I first heard the ek tarfa pyaar dialogue I thought that it would be more impactful had SRK said it. And I'm so glad that that's the case...About the performances it's said before already and I'll repeat it again ranbir fair and square owned the film for me... In fact I found his as one of the best performances of the year!! Anushka is good though she does take time to establish her feet but one she's there she's very good.. Ash' s best role for me idk Since when...The cons of the movie Is the sloppy editing the editing is so clumsy that you might start to feel that whether the film has a story to tell or no... But it does get better during the second half... I honestly don't know what was KJo thinking while writing the last 30mins and this I'm not saying sarcastically but genuinely...also one thing is idk if it's good or bad but not once did I cry in any scene ( mind it I'm someone who cries a lot like a lot in movies) and I was fully prepared to cry in this film especially in the last part but I just didn't and couldn't cry that's why I don't know if it's good or bad..!!!Final verdict: since it's Diwali and most of people have holidays these 5 days go watch it for time pass or wait until it airs on TV... It's a good one time watch... 2.5+.05(for ranbir's awesome performance)
ok i watched it and this is gonna be a completely honest review, i like rk as an actor and hav enjoyed his films before, so plz don't think coz i am an rs fan that i wud hav any bias while watching the film, coz i dont
but honestly, i was disappointed with the film, not one of kjo's best, performances were gud by everyone, especially rk and anu but the film just didn't hav that spark, that magic, that connection u want for the characters and story just was not there for memovie has some gud light moments but only in the first half, lisa haydon bought in most of the comic relief, and i liked how ayan and alizeh's friendship was starting to develop, however the movie just took some unconvincing turnsbiggest problem i had was that i wasn't convinced with ayans love for alizeh, they only knew each other for like 1-2 weeks and he fell madly in love with her? even wen she said to him so many times that she does not hav any feelings for him wat so ever, yet still he was stubborn and became so angry wen alizeh said for the 100th time that she does not love him, the friendship was more convincing than the love anglethe next problem i had was how over dramatic some of the scenes were, sorry but the scene where ayan tells alizeh he loves her on her wedding literally made me laugh, thats was just my natural reaction coz it was so silly, ayan was acting like a complete child, i didn't feel sad at all for him, plus scenes at the end of the film r also over dramaticalizeh's character is the most developed, ayans character is sweet but was too immature and child like. Aish's role is way too short, i really do think they cud hav done more with her character coz it was interesting, but unfortunately they didn't give much for her character, so performances r gud but i wudn't say they r the actors bestmovie is very predictable and cliche, the last few mins take a twist but the twist is so unconvincing and random that it just didn't help elevate the film for me(SPOILER: twist is alizeh has cancer, she leaves ali and ayan and her stay together but just as freinds, coz again she does not love him)so overall a pretty average movie, not upto all the hype being made out of it, kjo's editing and direction is smooth but there just needed to be more of a realistic connection in the film, maybe if u like dramatic 80/90's kind of bollywood movies u will like this2.5/5
Saw the film today - 1st day 1st show
the hall was 95% full for a 11.30 am show
As soon as it began and showed RK in specs giving an interview the crowd whistled and cheered
Loved the chaarcter of Ayan..I could relate to him so easily...saw only Ayan not RK at all
Some of the dialogs are just too good...loved his dance on Baby Doll and his song Gaata Rahe Mera Dil
He was too cute in the crying scenes...my heart went out to him...he made me laugh and cry with him
When Anu entered in the disco there were whistles and claps in the hall
Anu stole the show in most of the scenes for me...I saw only Alizeh not Anu...loved her dialog " Chal Hatt "
Ranushka chemistry is excellent...songs are all apt for the situations they are based on..
Channa Mereya will make u cry...any one can feel Ayan's pain in that scene...his heartbreaks so badly
Saraswati dabao dialog was not vulgar at all as it was said to be
There are so many references to K Jo's other films KKHH KHNH also DDLJ and other YRF films
Ash comes in the 2nd half and she is lovely...u dont feel the age difference between RK and Ash at all
she has somewhat about 25 minutes role but it is important to the story...though I feel it should have been longer
SRK's entry and dialog got the maximum claps whistle and cheer...could not hear some of the dialogs at all
Ek tarfa pyar dialog is said by SRK in the film...he is looking awesome in that scene
Fawad is looking dashing in the film but his role is maximum 15 minutes...RK and Fawad has 2 important scenes
1st half is all light fun and jolly... 2nd half is emotional and a bit painful
Warning...take a lot of tissues along...u will need it
after the film ended many people were crying in the hall
my rating 4.5 / 5

Contrary to popular opinion I actually liked the 2nd half more than the 1st half barring the last 30 minutes.I don't know what KJO tried to do with the movie. Where is the KJO who made KANK,K3G,MNIK,KKHH ? šRomance is his forte and unfortunately this is what the movie lacks. Ayan Alizeh is friendzone department and Ayan-Saba are I don't know 'like cum lust' department may be.Alizeh's character is so weakly written. And oh boy Anushka is just so bad in the movie especially in the 1st half. Alizeh tries to come across as cool and bindaas but it looks so forced and the dialogues don't help her either.Slightly better she does in the 2nd half.Saba is another weakly written character. Just mouthing bhari-bharkam dialogues don't add substance to a character IMO. I wish Ayan Saba had few conversations cutting short few passionate moments. The Alizeh illness angle in the last 30 mins doesn't invoke any emotion.Only one factor which binds the movie together is Ranbir Kapoor and I am not a Ranbir fan. He is the only good thing about the movie along with the music. Ranbir fans will love it.He is literally the saving grace of the movie.P.S - Thank god I watched it online ...can't even call it a one time good watch.

Not a proper review but thoughts about the movie. Potentially spoilerish.
What was the point of the story? š³
It's not a bad movie, I did enjoy most of it. But that was more due to the out and out references to Bollywood. The cleverly put songs, the total filminess of the characters, the "friendly" chemistry between RK and Anu really works; but at no point could I really connect to Ayaan's love for Alizeh. More than making me feel for him, I actually clicked my tongue in disapproval with the way he lowkey and highkey demanded that his love be returned. It's like KJo wanted both Sufi and human love and he just mixed it. Despite Ayaan getting to sing songs like Channa Mereya and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil..I felt like his LOVE didn't deserve those songs. Wo feel hi nahin thi.
RK is a goood actor. He was a delight to watch. First half specially was great. You could see him falling for Alizeh and that was really nice to witness..the aced those bits. The entire Cutiepie song was top notch. His obviously fake smile, un-synchronized steps, doing absurd things in name of celebration when obviously he was dying to the point where he actually just completely broke down - it was brilliant. But the Ayaan of second half is just so...blah. Like I don't get your angst dude! We were shown Tahir as an extension of Ayaan; someone who is suffering from unrequited love but he owns it. Ayaan on the other hand never really grows up. Or if he does, we don't see it. Singing wonderfully written words and jhadding philosophical lines don't make you an Aashiq that will go down in history. Where's the intensity?
Plus the movie was giving me such strong John Green novel vibes. Alizeh is the Bollywood version of a John Green mysterious, fun loving, i-know-more-than-you-possibly-could knowledgeable girl with a past she can't escape from. She also is the one to pull Ayaan from his cave and give his life direction. I wasn't even surprised at the cancer story because that's how this usually ends. I can't even call the movie a love story, not even the one of unrequited love. Stories of unrequited or unfinished love are a sureshot formula for me to bawl my eyes out to. Here I couldn't even care less how it all ended. Instead of Ayaan maturing and embracing his unrequited love and wearing it like a crown, he remained childish and kept demanding that his efforts be realized. Alizeh did love him, he was basically her everything. But Ayaan was ready to disregard it all because she couldn't make him that one thing HE wanted to be.
And there's a random airport scene at the end because of course Alizeh's Bollywood dream has to be fulfilled. "Pyaar" and "Dosti" reconcile for what? What the hell were those last minutes anyway? Ayaan belting out my favorite lines from Channa Mereya as the closing shot of the movie only made me realize just how much of an utter waste this song is in the movie.
Also now I'm realizing the movie had only...six characters? Matlab??? I don't dislike the movie but I'm just so confused about so many things. It's more of a all hype, no substance thing. All because of Ayaan. Such a weird character through which KJo is describing the glory of unrequited love. KKHH wala Rahul with all his douchebagery of falling in love with Anjali cuz she wears a saree has more substance than this wannabe sufi lover Ayaan who kept on acting like a child till the end only with an adult skin.
In short - good acting, greaaattt music (songs and BGM), the best use of insert songs EVER but with a pretty much meh story and the utter lack of purpose in it.
FREAKIN' SPECIAL OMG SO AWESOMESAUCE SHOUTOUT to the dubstep remix of "Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo". Brilliant. Absolutely BRILLIANT!! THAT SONG NEEDS TO BE RELEASED AS A SINGLE!!
