Hello,

I'd start by congratulating you, for I think you deserve it above everything else, for all these endeavours, and sincere efforts that this bit of research work must've required!!!👏 I don't know if you have yourself translated those Persian verses, if it's so, then you deserve another special applause 👏

I have come across this eloquently discussed picture, but of course, never delved into its underlying significance. Thank you so much for all this hard work, and for sharing it with us... it was an enlightening experience! 😳

Thank you very much for this generous praise. :)

I came across this picture by chance (purely luck, i would say) and somehow it struck me that the Persian inscriptions on it could tell something interesting. I was searching some other portrait but ended up with this and thought to share it with all here. And in this process only, decided to make a series discussing death of Akbar.

Actually, extracting information from the old and torn documents is something which fascinates me. Had this miniature not been in torn condition i think i would have paid no attention, because there are many such pictures from the Akbarnama etc in excellent conditions, which have Persian inscriptions but i never thought to get their translations.

No, i have not translated these verses on my own. Took help. Though, i know the Persian numerals and alphabets now, started understanding a bit too, slowly trying to learn Persian because the people who help in translation may not be available always and there are many Persian sources whose English translation does not exists. Persian seems to be an extremely tough language (at least to me). Still, a very long way to go.

Glad to know you enjoyed this post. :)

Thanks for the link of previous post!!.Just scrolled through the content and it does look quite interesting with various pictures and excerpts but pretty long too😳.So,I would like to read the whole thing leisurely including the comments, some other time.Lil busy for a week.

I've read the first few paras of the post and hearty congratulations on successful completion of two years of our blog!!🥳 It isn't a mean feat,at all.But a result of your tenacious determination, passion and hard work👏👏.I wish and pray the blog continues it's triumphant journey for many more years to come!!🤗

Thank you so much for all the fascinating posts you've shared till now.I'm really delighted to know the blog has received the much deserved success and love!😃

Thank you for these heartfelt wishes, Bindu. I also hope to write as long as possible.

Take time and read at leisure. But the Fatehpur Sikri post was not long, at least when compared to the other posts present on the blog. ;)

It is only about the snippets of the colonial era newspapers which covered the royal visit to Fatehpur Sikri.

Abhay,

Thanks for sharing the last painting of Akbar and the English translation of Persian inscriptions! The word LAST itself saddens us.😔

First two lines in red convey an intense and a beautiful meaning!👏

Before actually looking at the picture,I imagined Akbar in a feeble posture lying on the bed, going by the words painting before death. So,the real picture was in fact a relief.

But,what appalled me are the inscriptions on the painting. Are they really the thoughts of Akbar or how the painter sees Him??B'coz I can't believe an emperor like Akbar would wish for death!😒

Reading those lines surely tugs our heart but they also convey his faith in God! Our achievements, success and strength are nothing in front of God's will and death spares none. But,a man like Akbar is still remembered and will be remembered till eternity!

You've given the possible reasons behind the sickness and I'm waiting for part two to know further details. Also, the two hours thing is intriguing!

Thanks again,Abhay and Radhika!

The lines in red in the post are among my favorite Urdu verses. And they suited the occasion here. So included them.

As per the opinion of art historians, the inscriptions which are present on the signed royal paintings are not the thoughts of the painter. These paintings are commissioned by the ruler. So, these can be used as a tool to have an insight into the mind of Akbar.

These are not the complete inscriptions. There is no continuity. The middle portion is missing, as you must have seen. Who knows what more we could have understood about this event, only if this painting was in a perfect state.

Working on the second part. You're welcome Bindu.

PS : It seems you are the only person who noticed the 2 hours part in the post. ;)

Oh,thanks for the clarification! I never knew inscriptions were commissioned by the ruler. Now,I wish the painting was in a perfect state and still caught your attention:P

As for the PS,good to know I'm the only one who noticed it till now.LOL.

I compared Fatehpur Sikri post with the current one,so it looked long.Anyway,I'll read it ASAP😊

This is exquisite!

This second section of this particular series is definitely a treat... and rightly succeeds the former. Along with the detailed description of the people and their pivotal role in the making of an Emperor, it provides a commendable insight into the lives and the kind of political system rife in those days.

A special thanks for eloquently analysing the life and personality of Prince Khusrau, a man who was shortchanged by Fate... my knowledge of History is limited and so remains my fondness , but this remarkable blog, and this story it narrates certainly deserves a read!

The pictures are amazing, and so is the impeccable study of Man Singh, Azeez Koka, and the rest. The manner in which they have achieved so much within just two hours, and sealed the Fate of Hindustan, shows the kind of intellect these men of yore possessed.
