Why actors should take a stand on sensitive issues?

When I read about Fawad's presence in ADHM could affect it's business, I read few comments which went with this tone; If there is a war between India and Pakistan, he will support Pakistan. Agree, he might want to take a stand for his country. But can he choose (if he is allowed), not to take any stand at all? After all, who is he? A person who makes his living out of acting. Can he change the fate of a country? Can he make decisions on behalf of country? Then why his stand so important?

Actors are the easy targets of our frustration. But why hit on weak people who have no control over the issues? Call for ban or boycott of a movie; is it a mark of true patriotism or our sadistic pleasure over the success of a celebrity? It is not just Fawad; Salman and Sharukh are also forced to take a stand on sensitive issue. A terrorist act may be easy to condemn. But there are lot of grey issues, where both will have a point. If they choose to speak voluntarily, it is a different thing (like Amir). But many times, they are forced.

In regional films too, stars face such pressure. Whatever statement they make will affect their business. In Tamil industry, Ajit famously asked Karunanidhi to interfere with organisations who force stars to take a stand on everything including Cauvery. He was backed by Rajnikant then. ( http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/rajni-backs-ajiths-remarks-both-meet-karunanidhi/article109078.ece ). All these stars have huge fan base in both states. They do not want to ignite situation by provoking statements. But certain people don't allow them to be quiet.
As people we should stop speculating on what will be their stand. They should have right, if they choose not to take a stand.

I may not watch ADHM. It is just that, ADHM is not the kind of movie I am looking for (A tiny chance of WOM may change my perception). Nothing against anybody. Fawad or Ranbir. I have written a lot against Amir during controversy. But if Dangal is good, I will watch. We don't go to movies to favour a star or prove some point. We just go there to enjoy.

I agree actors should not be expected to take stand on sensitive issues, it's unfair

But some actors do this 'taking stand' stuff very selectively and that annoys people.

They don't breathe a word for years when there is violence in the country and
chaos in the industry, they are fine with it, but later suddenly declare the country unsafe...

That's not fair either.

Please elaborate what do u mean by grey issues in ur post? There is no middle ground here..not just celebrities but every individual should take stand and reject and condemn heinous crimes committed due to extremists!

Of course that goes without saying...I think what the TM means to say is that they shouldn't be forced to be vocal about their stand!

By grey area I don' think he/she means terrorism... Bcz they're easy to condemn

TM has given eg. like disputes between two states

I think it's because in the past these actors have taken social or political stands in front of the media which instigates the public to question them on such topics in the future.
Fawad's though has been a completely different issue all together.

If not big , Sensitive or political issues , one can show affection by small gestures
For example wishing on occasions

Just checked fawad's Twitter account
He only wished Pakistanis on Independence Day ...while our actors wish their " Pakistani bros / sis" on 14th aug then to Indians on 15th ( Fawad is just an example , all other Pakistani artists r same )

Didn't chk if he wished on Diwali or not

He works in India , has fans here , He can show his care for them by such small gestures but he/ others don't bother abt such things while our actors are supposed to consider the feelings of their Pakistani fans ...

Is it? That's strange...If he chose to wish his countrymen, why not the people of India too who are loving him so much? 😕

It must be really about the backlash he will have to face back home from his people...Already he must be facing a lot of negativity about him extensively working in India and not just that but taking up bold characters like playing a gay etc...

Not just Fawad, I haven't seen any kind of communication, wishes etc from any of the Pakistani actors like you get to see very often from a lot of Indian actors...
