Ranveer Singh has been firmly in the spotlight following the success of Dhurandhar, with industry chatter around his next moves gaining momentum. The actor, known for his immersive performances and high energy screen presence, has often been associated with ambitious projects and large scale franchises. With expectations riding high after his recent hit, Ranveer’s professional choices are now being closely examined across the trade.
Against this backdrop, his association with Don 3 has become a major talking point. The film, announced in 2023 with Farhan Akhtar directing and Excel Entertainment producing, was set to feature Ranveer stepping into the iconic role previously played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, with Kiara Advani as the female lead. However, the project has seen repeated delays, and recent reports claimed that Ranveer walked out due to creative differences, triggering a financial dispute. Excel Entertainment has reportedly cited losses of Rs 40 crore following his exit.
A report by Bollywood Hungama which is now deleted shed further light on the situation, claiming that during a second meeting held under the Producers Guild of India, Ranveer accused Excel Entertainment of being unprofessional and not serious about commencing the film. He allegedly stated that Farhan did not have a bound script ready and maintained that he prefers to commit only when the material is fully developed. The report quoted him as saying Farhan was never open to feedback on the script and faced difficulties incorporating certain subplots. It also claimed that Ranveer alleged Excel was exploring the option of casting Hrithik Roshan and only approached him again after the success of Dhurandhar to capitalise on his momentum.
Farhan Akhtar reportedly countered these claims by presenting documentation to the Guild, asserting that Ranveer never expressed dissatisfaction with the script. According to Farhan, the actor was excited about carrying forward the Don legacy and approved the screenplay at various stages, which was shared with him periodically.
Excel Entertainment further informed the Guild that Ranveer’s departure caused losses amounting to approximately Rs 40 crore, despite accommodating multiple demands from the actor. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are now said to be seeking reimbursement and pushing for industry level resolutions on what they describe as unreasonable star demands.
Meanwhile, Ranveer is reportedly unhappy with how the potential franchise was being handled, leaving the future of Don 3 uncertain.
