First Shot
"Oh come on it's just going to be 12 now" I crossed my hands.
"It's still not 12, there's a minute" my elder sister stated.
"But his phone would come busy at 12 then" I reasoned.
"Yeah... but we'll wait" she averred.
You can't win an argument with your elder sister, I tell you, even if it is logical.
"It's 12 now, we'll call him" she said all excited.
I saw her frown and immediately simpered raising an eyebrow, "Busy right?"
"Yeah" she sighed.
"I had told you" I banged my hands on the soft quilt.
"Fine but we can wait" she tried to convince me.
I looked away annoyed.
"Arey yaar... you can remain awake till 2AM talking with your boyfriend and here I'm just asking you for 15 minutes and you're throwing tantrums" she chided.
"Whoa...what?" I looked at her in shock.
"I know about it alright, you can't hide things from me, I'm your elder sister" she said crossing her hands.
"I don't have any boyfriend Di!" I threw my hands in air declaring it.
I continued, " I don't have seriously. I was talking to Jiju yesterday I confess"
"You were talking to Saurav till 2AM?" she raised her brow.
"Yeah, I accept" I pursed my lips.
"But why? Is there any problem Nisha? You can share it with me" she kept her hand on my shoulder.
"No, there is no problem, we were just talking about you" I smiled.
"About me?" she asked confused.
"Yeah, Jiju wanted to know more about you and I was telling him"I smirked as I nudged her.
"Nisha!" She hit my temple.
"Ow! What Di! Here I'm helping you and you're hitting me!"I complained like a kid.
She shook her head and then dialed again.
"It's ringing" she spoke very happily.
"Happy birthday!" she shrieked almost damaging my ear.
"Yeah..hmmm...who was their earlier huh?...your girlfriend eh?...well...right...hey wait"
Finally after a long time she handed her phone to me and I wished politely, "Happy birthday"
"Thank you" a sweet voice replied.
"So, what's the plan of spending the day?" I asked.
"Well I'll sleep first" he smirked on the phone.
I chuckled at his statement, "Yeah"
"Okay then... goodnight! Thanks again!" he said.
"Yeah... and I really hope to get a treat this time" I uttered
"Yeah"
"okay bye"
"bye" he said and the call was cut.
I gave my sister's mobile back to her and slid myself inside the quilt. My sister dozed off in no time beside me.
Actually, I live with my elder sister Dolly and my brother in law Saurav. He has gone to Delhi for some project for 10 days. And yeah the birthday boy is Saurav's cousin Kabir. We have met only three times until now, first at my sister's wedding, second at a professional party and third at his last birthday when he didn't give me his birthday treat.
Oh yeah, about that party...professional party... though it seems weird but it was one. Actually he and I work at the alliance companies so we had met at the celebration of the two companies ten years anniversary party. I seriously admit I didn't know that he worked there and he too would have realized then only, I guess.
And I can tell you one secret thing. Yeah...secret...top secret rather... according to Dolly Di. Dolly Di suddenly wants me to talk to him more than I actually do or simply, I really don't talk to him. Why should I yaar? He is just an acquaintance. Well, I didn't spill the beans yet but you can smell something fishy right? Of course you are intelligent like I'm.
So, Dolly Di and Saurav Jiju were conspiring some things which I overheard. I don't eavesdrop but the day Saurav Jiju was leaving for Delhi, he had forgotten one file and I reached to the airport to give him back as I don't know why these idiots weren't picking up my calls. And there I heard everything. Yeah, here I'm coaxed and there Jiju would be doing the same. Kabir lives in Delhi by the way and Saurav Jiju is staying at his home only, with his maternal side family.
I wasn't getting sleep so I picked up my mobile and switched on mobile data. Well... I don't keep talktime balance but only mobile data. I hope that's fine with you and if it doesn't, look as if I care. Now, don't get emotional, I'm getting back to my story.
So, as I switched on my mobile data, I got notification of 2 chats on my whatsapp. I opened them to find it were of Kabir's. They read this:
Hey u there?
u live on mobile data right? Then y r u offline?
I looked at the chats in bewilderment. Why is he saying that? I had saved his number but we never ever chatted. And how does he know that I live on mobile data only? Why is he chatting all of a sudden and that too on his birthday! I looked at the time the chats showed. It was 5 minutes before and now he is offline. Phew!
But why on the earth he is doing it? I contemplated for a while then my eyes went wide as Dolly Di's goodnight with a smirk dawned on me. Okay so, it must be Jiju who took Kabir's phone and messaged me. God these people! They're getting evil! Save me! I folded my hands dramatically squeezing my eyes shut and then laughed on my own wit for a while.
Then, I took my phone and messaged on whatsapp:
Hey sweetheart! Love you <3 <3 <3
If they are evil, then I'm devil. I smirked as I patted my own shoulder and was about to switch off the mobile data when the whatsapp buzzed. I opened it to find that Kabir was online and his message flashed:

Yeah, so many question marks. I smirked again and thought of getting more devilish as I knew confirmed that Jiju's other side. So I'm presenting you our chats thereupon N, means I, Nisha, and K means...yeah...you guessed right, K means Kabir. So, here they go:
N: wat?
K: y r u sending hearts?
N:dey aren't jus hearts, dey are sweethearts... sweetheart
K:hav u gone mad?
N:ya in ur love baby
K:I think u don't know who u r talking 2, it's Kabir here
N: I know sweetheart <3 :-D
Then I got a whatsapp call from Kabir, sorry from Saurav Jiju.
I took it coolly and what I heard next blew my mind up. Literally...
I heard Kabir's voice and I gulped.
"Hello?Hello?Nisha?" he said.
I remained quiet first in shock then in embarrassment. And then I cut it hastily and switched off my mobile data.
I started banging my head on the pillow when Dolly Di spoke irked, "What are you doing Nisha? The bed is shaking!"
That's when I stopped and blurted a sorry and she dozed off again.
I hit my palm on my head, "What do I do now?"
I glanced at my mobile and then again at pillow. I did it for three to four times but irritated now I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't clear the mess. So, I took my mobile, switched on the mobile data again.
I found him online and sighed. Here are our chats again:
N: m so sry Kabir, I thought it's somebody else
K:bt I had asked u
N:ya sry
K:hmmm y were u offline at 1
N:wat?
K:y were u offline at 1
N:umm I was sleeping
K:u sleep only for half n hour?
N:Kabiiir!!!
K: :-D ok f9 I want a favour
N:only if I get a treat
K:sure
N:ok
K:tell bhabhi dat I proposed u
N:wat!?!
K:ya don't worry u'll get my bday treat
N:?????
K:yar plz understand
K again: u don't know here bhai is coaxing me 4 our marriage
Well I knew it but I won't admit that too him.

Finally I admitted finding no other option.

And he forwarded our last conversation where I assumed Jiju at other side. I again wanted to bang my head but sighed looking at Dolly Di and typed.

K:really sweetheart?

And before I could type anything he went offline. I shook my head and switched off mobile data. I took a glimpse at the mobile clock which showed 2AM.
And Dolly Di's words echoed in my ears: you can remain awake till 2AM talking with your boyfriend. And involuntarily my lips curved up and I hid my face inside the quilt.
