THE DREAM
Radhika sat on her bed, deep in thought.
People had always told her that her daughter was Divine, that she looked like sakshat Mahalakshmi. When she was born, Dharani was fully pink, slowly melding into a golden colour. Her features were clear, even as she was born, something most new born babies never had. Her labour had been painless. After 11 long years of wanting a child, she and her husband Suresh had finally gotten Dharani, the baby girl they had always wanted. Krishna's gift was what everyone said. Dharani is to be cherished and brought up with love, for Lord Krishna had given her to the family. And yet, somewhere along the line, it had all dwindled. It pained Radhika to see her daughter so distant. But it was Dharani's fault. If she hadn't gotten bad marks, this wouldn't have accelerated to this, and they would not be arguing for everything.
"You will experience failure, Vasudha. For it is when you spring back from those failures successfully, that the world will learn to not lose heart when encountered with failure. They will have to use that as a driving force to achieve success. There is a reason for everything that happens", said Lord Narayana.
Dharani blinked her eyes. Visions seemed to be a familiar occurrence now. The bits and pieces of why she was born was slowly coming together. However, her Lord loved His games. Even if He had to show her visions, He will show them only bit by bit, for He loved seeing her solve His riddles. She loved solving them as well.
Her eyes went back to her screen, the song Yaaro Ivar Yaaro' clearly seen on it. She had no idea why she was obsessed with that song. Well, she did. Every time anything about the song came, she could feel her heart beat speeding up, and her love for Raghupati Raghava increase by the second. The song was magical, causing her to dream of Him.
"Perfect!"
Dharani was met with thundering applause from her fellow dance classmates when she finished dancing her Thillana. She was flushed, and happy dancing. She was in a different plane while dancing. Immersed in the dance is one of her favourite things to be. Dance was always positive and full of life, making it extremely appealing and enjoyable.
Dharani sat down for a well-deserved break, only to be surrounded by her friends.
"Dharani, tell us something", started Harini.
"Kya?", asked Dharani, looking at her friend amused.
"How do you do your bhava so well? How much do you practice?", asked Harini.
"I don't. Bhava must come naturally. Bhava is fluid, you see. You can't train expressions. It has to be natural. Only when the flow of expressions is natural, you will enjoy doing bhava as much as you love nritta. Nritta has to be perfected by practice. But bhava must be felt. Or the bhava won't come", said Dharani.
"Is that why you do Akka?", asked a young girl.
"That is exactly what I do, Samyu", said Dharani. "I let myself feel the emotions of each moment. I put myself in the character's shoes and view the entire thing. Then, I get their emotions and I do my best to portray it correctly."
"You make it sound so easy", said Pranavi, wistfully.
"But it is. Just let yourself feel the song and the air around you, let yourself be drenched by the emotion of the song. It is then that you will get the bhava", said Dharani. "For that, you have to understand the character you are portraying correctly. Till you do that, nothing will actually work for bhava"
"Akka, can you show us Bala Krishna again?", asked Samyu. "We want to learn from you"
"I will", said Dharani, grinning and proceeding to show the children her portrayal of Bala Krishna.
Pravha tried to let go of the restlessness that was bothering her. She couldn't study, which was usually not the case. Today, her restlessness spiked. The water in her was rushing around everywhere. It was utter chaos. She closed her eyes, to concentrate.
There He stood, dressed in royal blue silk robes, His fair skin contrasting the robe colour. His eyes burned with restlessness, His body was angled in a worried posture. He looked like a caged lion, waiting to spring into full form. He looked as majestic as the Serpent Adisesha, recoiling and waiting for the right time to strike.
"Swami!", uttered Pravha, now understanding her restlessness. Her moon was restless. And she reflected His mood.
Dharani wrapped up her studies and went to her laptop. She felt like listening to some music. She really needed to relax. Putting on her melody list, she sat and closed her eyes, letting the song drench her.
"Ma! Help me"
Janani, her Pragati's voice was heard, hurt and sobbing. Something was wrong. Folding her hands in prayer, she said, "Arya! Please protect our daughter. I can hear her tears. Please let Ma go and take care even if I can't. For our Pragati, Ma I also her Ma. Please let Ma go and protect her. Ma! You are Jagadambe! Mata Gauri! Please protect my Pragati along with Swami and Pa!"
She could feel Janani's tears and hurt. She too felt like crying. Determined to be strong, she continued her fervent prayers to her Lord.
A few minutes later, she could feel Pragati's hurt calming down, though her Pragati was calling out to her, for her.
"Swami, please give our daughter a big hug and tell her that her Ma is also hugging her. Only you can provide her with that comfort. She loves you the most in the Universe", said Dharani.
Sleep came very slowly to her that night. She felt like she was going to see something huge, and something significant in her dream, something which is going to freak her out but not surprise her. against her own wishes, her eyes closed, and she went into a light sleep, leaving everything to Krishna to take care.
Destruction was all she saw. Destruction of all kinds. People cried, missing their family. The Sky shed blood, seeing the destruction. And she stood there, in the centre, covered in cuts and marks, drenched in blood, numb with shock, tears glistening in her eyes. Suddenly, anger clouded her eyes, and she watched herself grow into a large form, a vishwaroop, where she stood with four arms, sankh, chakra and bow and arrow in three hands, the other holding a blessing. In anger, like that of Maa Durga, she took her bow and arrow in striking position.
Dharani woke up with a start, the words "Krishna! Narayana!", uttered by her. She was shook up by the dream she had had. This was like no other dream. This was complete and pure destruction. Her body trembled, simply thinking of what she had just dreamt. The dream, she knew, had to do with the Kaliyuga, and the way it is turning darker and darker by the day.
Wanting to calm down, she turned to the mirror near her bed to see her reflection. She gasped loudly. The cuts and bruises she had seen in the dream were all over her.
