FWICE president questions Diljit Dosanjh's choice of 'controversial films' amid Satluj row

The controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh's film Satluj has taken a fresh turn after FWICE President BN Tiwari reacted to the debate over the film's release and subsequent removal from ZEE5 in India. Speaking to IANS, Tiwari said actors should carefully consider the impact of the projects they choose and not make decisions solely for financial reasons.

Commenting on the film's removal from the streaming platform, Tiwari said, "Actually, if something creates problems in society, then such content should be carefully reviewed. Cinema is meant for entertainment and also carries some information, but if the government repeatedly intervenes or if the censor board finds issues, it means there were elements that were not suitable for public viewing."

He further questioned why the issue resurfaced after the film had already gone through the certification process. "Even if the film has passed censorship, and later the Government of India feels it could spread misinformation, disturb social harmony, or be misused by harmful elements, then such films should ideally be stopped earlier," he said. Tiwari added that if all required cuts had already been made, the film should either have been cleared for release or rejected during certification itself.

The FWICE president also spoke about Diljit Dosanjh's choice of films. "I am very surprised why Diljit Dosanjh chooses to do controversial films. He should understand the impact of such decisions. He is a superstar of Punjab, and he should think carefully so that his image is not affected." He also remarked that artists should keep "nation first" in mind while selecting projects and not work only for financial reasons.

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film premiered on ZEE5 in India before being removed from the platform within two days. Announcing the decision, ZEE5 stated, "In light of the current developments, 'Satluj' will be unavailable in India until further notice." The platform also said it remains committed to exploring all appropriate avenues to bring the film back while continuing to support its creative vision.
