Gauri Khan talks about why she hates 'it' bags, living with Shah Rukh Khan and her 'boring' domestic life at Mannat
She's the woman behind a very, very successful man, but the stylish simple Gauri Khan insists that's just the place she's comfortable — behind Shah Rukh. In a rare interview to Vogue magazine, she talks about fashion, family and keeping the faith. After Hours brings you some exclusive excerpts...
Fashion favourites
"Joseph-I love everything, especially their wrap dresses-and Dolce&Gabbana," she says. "I bought their dresses and corset belts this season-there is a lot of sensuality to the clothing. It's very feminine." While she indulges her love for shoes, especially boots — her wardrobe is stacked with patent YSL pumps, embellished Jimmy Choos and Manolo Blahniks-she stays far away from the over-hyped 'it' bags.
"It's too boring. I love Bottega Veneta's classic oversized bags but the rest are like a uniform. Everyone carries them."
Casually chic
Comfort is the key factor in her style and, despite her petite frame, Gauri chooses cargos, tees and flip-flops for the day. "I hate tight, revealing clothes," she says emphatically.
Her biggest fashion critic is, surprisingly, not her daughter Suhana but her son, Aryan, who has the final say on what she wears. "What I wear really depends on my mood and I always keep in mind that I am the wife of a very successful man."
Life with Shah Rukh
"He is the best husband and father I could ever ask for. I always say that I am so fortunate to be with Shah Rukh Khan, the man," she says in a rare, candid moment. "I don't come from a space where I gush and praise — the world is doing enough of that. I like to keep my love for him private and inside the doors of Mannat."
Gauri's day revolves around her family and home. "I am like any other mother and wife," she says. "I wake up in the morning to get my kids ready for school, help Shah Rukh with his work, and then do things around the house. No one will really understand but it's actually very boring."
