Sid talks in Kat's defence, says that she's been harrowed for her break-up during the Baar Baar Dekho promotions...

Sidharth Malhotra is travelling across the country. To promote his next film Baar Baar Dekho. But there's never a dull moment when you talk to him. Even if it's the last interview of the day before he retires, Sid always makes sure it's a great conversation.

In the run-up to the release of his next film Baar Baar Dekho, also starring Katrina Kaif, Sidharth opens up more about the film, rubbishes similarities with Hollywood flicks and takes a strong stand for co-star Kat. Excerpts:

This year started for you with a bang with Kapoor and Sons doing well are you expecting the same with Baar Baar Dekho?

Definitely I am very optimistic about this film also. I think this year started with me doing a family drama in a newer contemporary way which people liked. We didn't do anything larger than life in that film and in a similar way I am trying this romantic genre, a love story which is new age, which has a nice concept to it, so if I can pull off a family drama and a love story in the same year, it would be great. I will party at the end.

The trailer reminds us of more of Hollywood films like Click, A time travellers wife, About Time what do you have to say about it?

I think the only thing common is that there is time concept otherwise once you see the film, you will understand it has nothing in common with any other films. There is no similarities, the screen play hasn't been robbed it is an original screenplay of Shree Rao which Nitya Mehra has adapted it. Only the time jumping part is the same.

First time with Katrina Kaif was it easy to break the ice?

Yes it was pretty easy as soon as we met. As an actor when we do a love story it is necessary to know your co actor because we pretending to fall in love and especially in this film we are not pretending to fall in love, we are in love since eight years old. So you needed to have that familiarity. So before shoot we did workshops, in the first workshop I just had to sit in front of her and stare into her eyes for 15 minutes which was a great job to do, to stare at Katrina Kaif...she was the one who blinked first (Laughs). That's how the ice broke the we did Masti and all the other scenes. I discovered how hardworking Katrina is, the one positive quality that she has is that she does not take her position, experience for granted and this is a commendable quality and the reason for where she is. There's too much importance given on her relationship, her split and it should just end now. She is fabulous in the film and her work will speak for her.

Could you relate to Jai Verma, your character?

Yes a lot. He represents a lot of the youth today...all the youngsters are career oriented these days. Nobody plans at the early age of 20s to have a family especially boys. They run away from commitment, they want to make money first. Even though he has a girlfriend like Diya who he loves, he is still commitment phobic which I think lot of youngsters are. It's about how he sees the future of his love story and what he learns whether he changes things or not. All these things are things the youngsters will relate to.
