Hey all,
Posting something here after so long.
I have been a bit uninspired lately so kept this VM on hold. Randomly gave it a shot 2 days ago though and here we are. I usually take longer with instrumental vids but somehow managed to wrap up this one pretty quickly.
The premise as the title suggests is Dev and Sona's breakup. I love angst when it's well written and this was a particularly great scene. Emotional, messy and heartbreaking, it reminded me of this line from a song (The title of the VM is also inspired from the same).
"Love gone wrong, lifeless words carry on."
Dev & Sona. Inspite of the understanding and connect that we have seen them share during the course of their journey, this was one scene where inspite of being brutally honest with each other, they understood each other very little. Dev has always identified himself as a son. It was through Sona that he discovered so much more about himself. However, all that gets eclipsed when he realizes that his Mother has infact, not accepted his relationship with Sona as she earlier claimed to. Add to that the fact that she could have possibly died due to his ignorance and you get a situation where Dev being his reckless and hasty self, doesn't pause to think about the consequences of his decision and simply decides to break up. He fails to realize yet again that relationships aren't like his business where quick, efficient decision making has always worked in his favor. There is also the question of Dev overhearing Ishwari call herself a bad mother. Dev cannot allow for his idol to break. He has always gained a certain sense of self from Ishwari's unwavering strength and he is not ready for that illusion to shatter. In short, he cannot be Dev, the real Dev, if it means having to forsake his mother's happiness and see her defeated in the face of something she cannot accept. Dev's idea of a solution was to simply remove the problem without attempting to solve it at all.
Sona - She is livid and heartbroken to see Dev give up on them so easily and chuck her out of his life so unceremoniously. All the things that Sona had given to Dev be it in the name of friendship or love, she deserved to be treated better. She had trusted him, had had faith in his promises and he broke every single one of them. However, in a way even that trust was a fragile one. Sona has constantly been riddled with insecurities ever since she fell in love (or atleast since Natasha entered the story). She never learned to love Dev fearlessly without the need for it to be validated by Dev or even Ishwari. When Dev utters the dreaded words he gives light to every single of her fears and naturally we see Sona lash out at him. Dev isn't the only one breaking his promises here. Sona did too. She promised to be with him even if he left her but she couldn't keep her word. I'm not saying that Sona should have continued to stick by Dev in the face of how he went about the breakup but as far as broken promises go... Dev isn't the only one. Maybe if they had talked a little later when Dev had calmed down a bit and wasn't feeling so broken, helpless and emotional then they could have reached some kind of understanding. I guess we will never know. The only good thing that perhaps happened in this scene was Sonakshi's acknowledgement that Dev did not deserve her love, thus finally getting over her constant identification of self through other people's thoughts/opinions and being able to redefine her sense of self-worth.
I'd like to say more but since this is suppose to be a VM description and not one of my usual rambles I had better shut up. Most of the video is self-explanatory. I added a few parallels that I hope you guys will like. Tried my best to capture the scene under 3 minutes and I hope I did justice to it.
Thank you for always being so generous with your feedback and appreciation. Love you guys!
