After creating award winning and critically acclaimed movies, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is reportedly all set to take a trip towards the small screen. If reports are to be believed, Mahesh Bhatt is planning to make a TV serial which will be partially based on his movie Zakhm'. This 1999 directorial featured Ajay Devgn and Pooja Bhatt in pivotal roles.

A report published in a leading daily suggested that this show will replace the hit soap Diya Aur Baati Hum' on Star Plus.

"Mahesh Bhatt is all set to start his television innings with a brand new fiction show. The show is partially based on his famous 1999 directorial Zakhm, which starred actor Ajay Devgn and Bhatt's daughter Pooja in the lead roles. The show will be aired on Star Plus and will replace the channel's most popular ongoing show 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' in September this year,"

a leading daily cited an industry insider.

It is being reported that the show will be called Namkaran' and the makers have roped in actors Viraf Patel and Barkha Bisht in important roles.

The TV serial, like the movie, will draw inspirations from Mahesh Bhatt's real life. Mahesh Bhatt was born to Nanabhai Bhatt and Shirin Mohammad Ali in 1948. Nanabhai Bhatt was a well-known director and producer of Bollywood and Gujarati movies.

"Bhatt has never shied away from admitting that he, too, was born out of wedlock. He has co-written the story, which has several resemblances to his life. It is a powerful subject and he is looking for competent performers to be cast for the show,"

another source told a leading daily.

However, Bhatt has chosen to stay tight lipped on this matter. When quizzed about any such development Mahesh told an entertainment portal,

"It is premature to talk about it right now."

The 1999 movie won critical acclaims as it touched a lot of sensitive topics. In the movie Pooja Bhatt plays the role of a Muslim girl who falls in love with a Hindu boy. Ajay Devgn is born out of this unacknowledged marriage. The movie traces how life posed problems for Pooja and Ajay. The film won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration.
