Chapter 1 ~ And that's how it all began
Khushi's POV
My eyes squirmed shut as I felt a light of bright intensity focusing on my already closed eyes. My head felt heavier than ever, as if it carried an enormous weight over it and my legs ached, as if I had walked for miles and miles together. I remember nothing, absolutely nothing. Wait, no. I remember something.
"Khushi! Open your eyes dammit!" The bright light again returned to my eyes, making them shut even tightly in anticipation of being hurt as soon as they open up. I recognize this voice, really well.
"Khushi?" I heard another voice before I could understand the first one, and this voice seemed familiar too.
"Where am I?" I slowly let out a moan and I felt my own hand rise up and cover my eyes, blocking them from the bright light.
"Oh please! Cut the crap and get up!" I heard the first voice again. Why is she scolding me? Here I feel like I just came back from the mouth of death, I deserve to be taken care of like a princess.
Sighing pretty loudly, I lifted my upper body and sat on the bed, my hand still covering my eyes and my legs spread out. Thank god I wasn't tied up or something.
"How are you feeling, child?" I heard someone's soothing voice ring in my ears and I took my hand off my eyes, blinking a few times to get my vision right. I looked around myself and I saw him. With the previous incidents striking the darkness in the back of my head, I looked away the very next second, not wanting to make any eye contact with him.
I saw Lavanya standing behind a lady, who seemed like a doctor with a white coat on and a stethoscope hung around her neck.
My forehead creased in confusion and I looked around the room I was in. Pale yellow walls and sky blue curtains, um, I am in a hospital? Yeah, but why?
"Are you insane? Who cannot hear a car's horn on an utterly silent road? Why do you have this habit of landing yourself in problems every f**cking time?" Lavanya screamed at me and I could say nothing but stare at her moving mouth, saying something I couldn't hear; or rather say, I didn't want to hear. I was too tired to listen to her, too tired to answer her.
"Ms. Kashyap, please maintain silence," the doctor told Lavanya, before instructing the nurse something and they both moved out of the room.
"Lavanya, understand the situation. What's the need of screaming at Khushi? It was an accident!" I heard him speak, ever so softly, in the most mature way. My eyes welled up and I leaned back on the headboard of the bed, the coldness of the steel giving relief to my head. I closed my eyes and swallowed my tears, my mind diving back to the time when all this started...
Flashback starts~
I walked hurriedly. Dammit! I was late again. The distance from the hostel room to the physics laboratory seemed liked miles together now! Damn my stupid alarm clock, damn my stupid bag's zipper and damn these stupid shoes. And special mention for Ms. Lavanya Kashyap, my b*tch - stupid girl didn't even care to wake me up before leaving for her own class.
Anyways, I know I shouldn't be cringing much 'cause I myself was watching the whole series of Game of Thrones. Damn man! Every episode of it ends with such a note that you are forced to watch the next one, promising yourself that it would be the last one for the night, but the 'last' never comes. Give me some popcorn, good earphones, a warm blanket and a high-speed internet access and watch me use all of it like a typical spoilt princess.
I simpered to myself, tucking my books in my bag carelessly with my hair falling out of my messy bun, hampering my ability to see clearly. I secured the magnetic flap of my bag, for the zipper wasn't really working in my favour. As I slumped my loose hair strands over my head, I felt my tiny body crash with something rock hard and the next thing I knew was that I was lying on the floor on top of my bottom, rubbing my lower back to ease out the sudden pain.
Swearing pretty loudly, I looked up at the person responsible for me getting more late for my class. Taking help of the floor, I managed to stand up on my feet again, eyeing the guy top to bottom with narrowed anger-spitting eyes.
New student, eh?
"I never knew our college is getting blind people enrolled too!" I rolled my eyes sarcastically, fixing my hair which became more messy after my fall. Thank god the corridor was pretty empty, otherwise I could have died of shame in just a few seconds with people staring at me.
"And I never knew this college has beautiful girls who have buttons in place of eyes!" He said, rolling his eyes in the same fashion as I did, making me boil more with anger.
I moved ahead and pointed my finger over his chiseled chest, "Listen boy, whoever you are! I effin' don't care if you are new or old, but you better watch where you walk or whom you walk into!"
And then, he smirked.
OMFG.
Stop distracting me dammit!
"Are you a single piece or I would find every girl such fiesty here?" His voice grew unbelievably huskier and that devil smirk deepened, making me go weak in the knees.
"I don't really care how many girls you meet out here, but I will pray to God that he keeps you away from me!" I said, tired to argue any further.
"Mutual feelings, babe!" He said and walked past me, whistling coolly as he passed the corridor.
Babe?
Babe?
BABE?!
Jerk! huh
Oh shit! I am late I am late I am late!
"Ms. Gupta, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were able to grace this class with your prestigious presence," Mrs. Jade smiled sarcastically at me, and I shifted my weight from one feet to another. I was in the physics laboratory, about thirty minutes late for the class, waiting for the storm to erupt after this utter silence.
I looked around the seated students to search for Lav, who had her head dug in her palms, with her elbows resting on the table in front of her.
Whom are you hiding from, baby?
"Detention! Get out of my class! I can't tolerate late-comers in my class!" And the volcano erupted.
Guess what I wanted to do right now?
Nah forget it.

Arnav's POV
Name's Arnav Singh Raizada!
New college, first day, and boom! I got a detention!
No, I didn't go to the first class of my first day drunk or anything, but I went late. This graduation degree will be a pain for sure. I could have bunked the class, like I used to do in my previous college, but I didn't find a reason this time. I mean come on, I was just freaking twenty minutes late, and the grumpy teacher called it a detention.
And on top of that, on my way to the detention hall, I collided with a girl, who spoiled my mood even more. Damn man, is this college just made up of such creatures or am I the only one who has hard luck?
God, give me some reason to love all this.
I step into the dark, dusty room and my eyes roll boringly, not giving a second glance to a couple making out in a corner and the detention officer snoring on his chair.
I, like an honest student, pick up a detention sheet from the table and occupy another corner seat of the room, completely ignoring the officer's and the couple's presence in the room. I fetch my phone and plugged in my earphones, going in for some rock music to calm my nerves down. I leaned back on the uncomfortable chair and closed my already sleepy eyes. Just as the music boozed through my ears, I felt the presence of someone stomping a hand on the desk in front of me.
I opened one eye to look at the person and then again closed it, registering the same girl I banged into earlier. Boy, why the hell is she following me?
"What the f-?"
She began with her screaming and I literally felt my head would burst open with pain. I pulled out my earphones and sat up straight, facing her completely.
"Shh. You'll wake up the teacher and I don't want my detention period to get doubled-up!" I hiss silently, heaving a sigh of relief as the detention officer snored even loudly.
"I don't care! This is my seat. Get off from here." She humphed at me with narrowed eyes and her hands resting over her hips.
"Oh so you have a fixed seat in detention hall too?" I laughed darkly, cocking an eyebrow at her in a teasing manner, "Should I assume you spend more time here than in classes?"
And her narrow eyes widened for a millisecond, before she looked away from me, a reddish color rising up her neck.
Yay!
Now speak?
"Your business?" She asked tilting her head and rolling her eyes at me.
She has great comebacks, I agree.
"Of course not. Anyways, if you can get yourself comfortable somewhere else, then may I start with my work?" I say boringly, looking at the sheet I needed to fill before break time.
"But-" She again started, but I cut her off quickly.
Heavens, take this girl away from me.
"Please?" I raise my eyes innocently at her, giving her my favorite expression. Emotional blackmail. Works?
YES!
Girls are emotional.
She stomped her foot on the floor pretty loudly, walking two desks ahead of me and settling down on it.
Thanks, God! You are the best!
