Kabaali recorded the highest first day nett collections of all time but in GROSS terms it was the second highest opening of all time in India. When regional films come into play they have to be compared in GROSS as this is the number collected at the box office which gets distorted with different rates of Entertainment Tax across India. A Tamil film is tax free in Tamil Nadu where most of its revenue comes from while Hindi films have a huge tax of 65% in UP. Also Entertainment Tax is lower generally in the South.

Still for Kabali to up there as the second highest opener ever in India is just phenomenal. There are only four films to have a 50 crore GROSS opening day with Kabali just behind Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which is the biggest opener ever in India, Below are the top ten opening day grossers in India. The list includes all films released in India and all figures are GROSS. Also all languages included for all films.

1. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - 55.03 crore

2. Kabali - 53 crore apprx

3. Sultan - 51.15 crore

4. Happy New Year - 50.78 crore

5. Bahubali - 49.48 crore

6. Dhoom 3 - 45.67 crore

7. Singham Returns - 43.44 crore

8. Ek Tha Tiger - 41.29 crore

9. Chennai Express - 40.81 crore

10. Bajrangi Bhaijaan - 36.23 crore

It has to be noted what Kabali and Bahubali have done is get the figures on a non holiday while most of the above Hindi films (Dhoom 3 and Bajrangi Bhaijan excluded) are holiday releases. Not that Kabali or Bahubali would have done much more if released on holiday as they are doing close to capacity on a non holiday.

Basically the occupancy of Kabali and Bahubali is higher than what the biggest Hindi films have done on a national holiday. Kabali just ran riot in South India just on the name of Rajnikant as hit or flop the superstar just gets bigger and bigger.

There is another South Indian film which just missed the top ten and came in 11th place and that film is Sardaar Gabbar Singh. A Telugu film released earlier this year which has a GROSS opening day box office of 36.10 crore though did not fare well in the long run.

Although it went unnoticed at the time as GROSS figures were not compiled but is was a Shahrukh Khan film Happy New Year which started this 50 crore GBOC on opening day benchmark. This was followed by two films from Salman Khan and now the biggest of them all Raknikant is there also. This 50 crore figure is the one for any star who has any box office clout and so far only the three biggest stars in India have managed it.

Stupid argument. Makers would have released in more screens if they are releasing during a holiday period, thereby more numbers.

One thing is clear, the potential of South biggies is bigger than BW biggies, considering that stars in the South are not desperate about holidays and don't block holiday release dates years in advance.

🤣

Few Srk fans in order to bash Salman's PRDP are Front Runners in Bashing HNY along with it, just to show Salman isn't big... Poor SRK... his own fans disown him, while he is the one who still make huge records

Diwali's next day is STILL the biggest DAY of the year... Both HNY & PRDP has made RECORD Breaking Figures on that day... Bola tha HNY Will be biggest, it was when released, now also ppl can see, it was 1st film to gross 50 Cr GBOC...

GROSS should be the criteria for CLUBS - 100 Cr, 200 Cr, 300 Cr, 400 Cr... GROSS is actually the TICKETS SOLD for any film, but clubs are made on NETT (which deducts TAX)... It is unfair to ignore that DEDUCTED amount from GROSS, woh bhi COLLECTION hi hai FILM ki.

Gross Figures agar dekhin

1. PK = 447 Cr = 400 Cr Club

2. BB = 422 Cr = 400 Cr Club

3. SULTAN = 397 Cr (Till yesterday, will cross 400 Today) = 400 Cr Club

4. Dhoom 3 = 349 Cr = 300 Cr Club

5. Kick = 283 = 200 Cr Club

6. CE = 278 = 200 Cr Club

7. 3 Idiots = 273 = 200 Cr Club

8. PRDP = 267 = 200 Cr Club

9. Bajirao Mastani = 257 Cr = 200 Cr Club

10. ETT = 251 Cr = 200 Cr Club

Kabali (Hindi) And Madaari Second Day Business
Sunday 24 July 2016 12.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Kabaali (Hindi) is doing average business in as it grossed around 4.50 crore nett on its second day. The Hindi version is the only one to show growth on day two while all the other languages saw falls on the second day. The film showed good growth in the North as the opening was low and multiplexes picked up on Saturday. The Tamil version saw falls in the Hindi circuits as well be it Mumbai, Pune or Delhi NCR. The two day business of Kabali (Hindi) is as follows.

Friday - 3,50,00,000

Saturday - 4,50,00,000

TOTAL - 8,00,00,000

Madaari is a poor fare despite growth on Saturday. The film managed to grow 50% on Saturday but when day one is just 1.75 crore nett then it is good not enough. There has to be 70-80% growth at least though preferably should be doubling up or at least close to it. The two day business of Madaari is as follows.

Friday - 1,75,00,000

Saturday - 2,75,00,000.

TOTAL - 4,50,00,000

If the film can show 50% growth on Sunday and get close to around 4 crore nett then maybe there will be outside chance of a follow through on the weekdays but that it will be a big ask going by the Saturday trend.

Where you were rooting for the pairing of the lead actor/actress with the second lead/side character instead of with the main one?
