The city is really expensive while from what I heard side actors on tv get paid peanuts.
Side actors in movies may get better pay but the number of days they work are hardly 40-45 in full year.
Then there are some of these actors who dont even have side roles on serials. They just work in single episode story based programs like Saavdhan India or Crime Patrol.
I wonder how do they survive in mumbai keeping in mind some of them are celebrity and have to live well.
Do they actually get paid well enough or they earn through some side businesses or they get financial support from their family ?

My one friend is staying in mumbai and struggling for acting, in some shows he got very small roles like rikshaw puller, vegetable seller etc, he stays in 1 bhk flat where 10 guys are staying together... Very horrible situation there

Not everyone gets 10 to 15 thousand a day. There are many strugglers out there who doesnt get any work for months in between. And its a vicious cycle. They have to spend more money in staying fit, looking good, and being relevant in attending social events so this adds to the cost. Mumbai is indeed a very expensive place to live in, especially if you are a celebrity.
They end up doing whatever it takes to survive including "side businesses". Lets just call it that.

I sometimes wonder how much these struggling actors must be hating star kids. If not for star kids they at least would get some opportunity.

Some side actors are born and brought up in Mumbai and already own property there. Others stay in run down apartments or chawls which they share with 5-10 other people. Some just maintain side businesses to maintain their living standards.
Oh and many of them often do regional TV/movies, print ads which we don't know about but pay them peanuts. Reality shows I think pay a lot.

Even the successful ones we see in tv shows have to find something else once their show goes off. most of them including movie stars do theatre as their daily job

I read it many times that most of people in glamour industry are involved in prostitution ( the one who don't get work regularly )
As for TV actors i read it in some article that popular TV actresses like Drashti, Jennifer,Sana ya gets 45k per episode. And Ram Kapoor is the highest paid actor of TV industry with some 80K per episode.

Thats the thing. In todays day and age things are so expensive and inflation is just insane. It doesnt matter how much you made, but if you stop working the bills pile up so quickly and then your bank account starts draining real fast. Home rent, car EMI payment, petrol, insurance, repair, trying to keep a driver for 15-20 thousand a month, groceries, designer clothes, internet, mobile phone, giving gifts, supporting family members. Life is hard. There are many strugglers who are sole bread winners for their entire family especially from small town. Chahe jo bhi ho maheene ki 1st se pehle paise pahunch jaane chahiye.
