@shanky1 why would I edit my predictions? My predictions are 100% honest and I'm not going to change it just because I was wrong. As for the film doing "great" at the box office, here is a post by Indicine...
Housefull 3 is steady at the box office, but the second week collections have been below expectations since it was a open week. The trend suggests the film will fall short of the total of Housefull 2 (116 crore) - the previous film in the franchise which released back in 2012.
The footfalls of the 3rd film will also be the lowest for the series - about 25-30% lower than Housefull 2 (2012) and 10% lower than Housefull (2010).
Housefull 3 has collected Rs 17.5 crore so far in its second week and the film will end Week 2 with net box office collections of around Rs 22.5 crore - taking the total to somewhere around the 102 - 103 crore mark.
The release of Udta Punjab will affect business at multiplexes and Housefull 3 could add around 10 crore to its total, third week onwards.
The film will cross the 100 crore mark on Wednesday, giving Akshay Kumar his 5th 100 crore film after Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, Holiday and Airlift.
My analysis: So this is the final verdict on Housefull 3: Yes, I was wrong. The film is NOT a flop. It will enter the 100 crore club and is a HIT. HOWEVER, here are some important things to note...
The footfalls of Housefull 3 are 25-30% lower than Housefull 2, and even 10% lower than Housefull which released all the way back in 2010, which is a frightening stat. For this reason alone, Housefull 3's box office performance is EXTREMELY underwhelming!
Housefull 2 in 2012, with lower ticket prices, non-favorable release period (released DURING IPL period!), and on 2600 screens, had a 13 crore opening and went all the way to 116 lifetime collections with Super Hit verdict. Four years later in 2016, Housefull 3 with higher ticket prices, a much better release period (post-IPL), and on 3700 screens, only showed a marginal improvement on the previous film's opening day by netting 15 crores, and worse, will likely finish with lifetime collections LESS than Housefull 2. DISSAPOINTING!
Also, here's more: Akshay Kumar is one of the biggest Bollywood stars in India. FACT. In 2012, when Housefull 2 did 116 crores during IPL season, it was a very good result, as the highest grosser that time was 3 Idiots which did 202 crores net during Christmas period. In today's time, the highest grosser is PK, with net collections of 340 crores. For Akshay Kumar, he should be at least delivering films that enter the 200 crore club, and when you have a big commercial entertainer/sequel like Housefull 3, that is what is expected. The period was there: Ranbir Kapoor's YJHD did 188 crores net during Post-IPL in 2013. There is no reason why Akshay shouldn't have been aiming for the 200 crore mark this year with this film. However, the final lifetime collections will settle at just about 110+ crores it seems, which is disappointing!
SO yeah, the makers of Housefull 3 will act like they have a huge success on their hands, and although the film is a HIT, it's also a massive under performer at the box office, partly because of the somewhat weak pre-release buzz, and partly because of the Mixed WOM of the film.
Simply, Housefull 3 has failed to carry the Housefull franchise forward!
Akshay giving two back-to-back 100 crore films in 2012 was impressive. In 2016, when the benchmark is much higher, it's not so impressive!
@IhateKhans Thank you for the feedback 😃 I genuinely appreciate it.
