I saw glimpses of Raman today. Just a few minutes of him after he let his guard down yesterday.
And I've spoken before how Raman is angry, he's lashing out. He's practically incensed at the idea that Ishita was in this world all along, and she wasn't with him.
His mind was so clouded by anger, fury, jealousy and just sheer grief that he spent the last seven years, second by second, minute, by minute, thinking the love of his life was no more.
But I underestimated, and it struck me today, as I saw him for just a few seconds while searching for something to watch on television, just how utterly, devastatingly, heartbroken Raman is.
Heartbroken.
We've said he's lifeless.
We've said he's turned his heart to stone.
But I think, the great Raman Kumar Bhalla, is heartbroken.
And I'm saying this now because in his overt crassness and chauvinistic remarks, we forgot this. We saw the hurt, the pain, the pure, unadulterated agony.
But this all overshadowed heartbreak.
And in the few seconds I saw him today, after spending the night with his Ishita, today I saw Raman's heartbroken. Not battered, not bruised, but pierced into pieces.
Yesterday he melted. Yesterday we saw the man who deserves all of Ishita's love. Not the man who has been hurling abuse at her.
I will never be able to justify the words Raman used in this phase of the story. But to the teeny tiny credit of his insensitivity, this managed to distract us from the utter heartbreak that revealed itself truly today. It was written all over his face as he looked at his laptop screen, pausing on Ishita.
Shagun did a number on him. Yes. But thanks to her, when he fell for Ishita, he could differentiate love from infatuation. He could distinguish it from lust. He truly fell in love with Ishita. And she has, unknowingly, become the only woman to truly break his heart. Shagun broke Raman down. Humiliated him.
But Ishita was the only woman to truly, truly break his heart.
Shagun was useful. If it wasn't for her, Raman wouldn't have known the wonder of true love when he met Ishita.
But if it wasn't for Ishita, he wouldn't have known what true heartbreak is.
Ishita is the only woman who has captured his heart. And I saw that today. After a very, very vulnerable Raman came to the fore.
I'll leave you all with words from a beautiful song
'If our love is tragedy, why are you my clarity?'
Raman and Ishita gave each other their hearts. They nurtured each other. Gave every part of them to each other. And gave only each other the very right to break their hearts. And for me, they can only ever, as toxic as it is, be the ones to heal the very heartbreak they themselves caused.
