Playing Komalika has been Urvashi
Dholakia's ticket to fame. The invincible vamp talks about work, leisure and single parenthood to After Hours
Doesn't playing Komolika bore you at times?
Yes, at times I do get bored. But then I have viewers who are eagerly awaiting my next move. I realize my responsibility towards my fans and producers. Playing Komolika has given me immense recognition. I can't leave it.
Do you see yourself as a trendsetting vamp?
This is entirely Ekta Kapoor's concept. She has revolutionized Indian television by introducing innovative ideas, including the concept of vamp. It adds spice to her sanitized shows. Moreover, all women cannot be a Tulsi or Prerna. There is Komolika in society as well. Ekta has simply brought the various shades of womanhood to the fore.
After the rigours of a daily soap, do you get time for yourself?
It's very difficult to find leisure. But whenever I get time, I like to spend it with my family. On free weekends I visit my children at their boarding school.
Being a single parent must be difficult.
My divorce was one of the difficult times I have faced in my life. But now I have learnt to manage things. My parents have supported me a lot. Sending my children to a boarding school was a difficult decision. But it was necessary for their good upbringing.
What else do you enjoy doing when at leisure?
I love to eat and sleep. I can sleep for a whole day if the environment is conducive!
What are your preferences in food?
I am a thorough Indian as far as my palate is concerned. I love all regional flavours.
Despite being a foodie how do you keep yourself so trim?
I really don't know. I don't work out either. But yes, though I take a heavy lunch, I avoid dinner. So there is nothing like dining out at night for me. Perhaps I cut down calories there.
How do you de-stress?
I enjoy listening to music - old Hindi songs, remixes and some western numbers. But I am not at all a movie person nor do I like reading. I guess I am old fashioned and boring in that way.
