Sairat becomes highest grossing Marathi film
TNN | May 13, 2016, 10.53 AM ISTThe film which collected Rs 25.50 cr in the first week of its release, went on to shatter Marathi BO records with a whopping collection of Rs 41.11 cr at the end of 11 days, according to the entertainment website Bollywood Hungama.
In doing this, the film has surpassed the earnings of 'Natsamrat', 'Lai Bhaari', 'Duniyadari' and 'Balak Palak'. An interesting aspect to note about this collection figure is that it is much more than many Bollywood big ticket releases this year including 'Rocky Handsome' and 'Jai Gangaajal'. Furthermore, this feat has been achieved by the film in much lesser number of screens. While the Bollywood releases were screened across India, 'Sairat' released across Maharashtra and at a few screens in neighbouring states.
The film directed by Nagraj Manjule and featuring Akash Thosar as Parshya andRinku Rajguru as Archi, has been earning rave reviews for its realistic portrayal of a love story and its BO collection has only added to its success. 'Sairat's run at the BO stands to continue for another week due to no Marathi releases. Next week will be a testing time for the film with the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Randeep Hooda starrer 'Sarbjit' scheduled to hit screens.
