I think they were trying to get rid of Kaali so they can execute their plan properly.

If Kaali was punished, she would probably be locked down somewhere so Purohit can do something till that time.

In repeat telecast today, they showed a precap scene where Gauri is talking to Yug. Yug is saying kaali is my best friend. Gauri said something. Yug said tum biwi toh banogi but you can never be my friend because there is no trust.
