Since Jaya was Suhasini's choice for her daughter-in-law, I am wondering why is she a house-wife and not a career woman like Suhasini? Should she not be using all the education and doing something other than cooking and putting up with a effed up husband.
Jaya's husband does not like her and for whatever reasons they can't be divorced; why doesn't he atleast treat her with some respect and dignity. It does not seem like she forced him to marry her. This is not a typical behavior of a "padha-likha, good mannered" man that Suhasini raised :(

Jaya's character bothers me a bit however, I know writers have to create all these story-lines to fill the time between the main story line. However how they write sensibly for the sake of women like Jaya and she behaves sanely in future.

that is just how Jaya's character is written. she tries hard to be the perfect bahu because it fills the void in her life, maybe getting a job would be better but this is what she chose for herself.

As for Jaidev, I agree he is rude but he is living in his own state of misery. I'm not justifying his actions but perhaps he has been wronged by his mother in some way as well.
