First, hey everyone! I'm Bolt. Or FB. Or if you feel particularly close, Shriya. These are my thoughts after watching the first episode. I feel like I'll stick around for a bit at least. I do like the leads. And lbr usually that's all it takes for me to watch a hindi soap. 😆

An interesting show, slightly dated and annoyingly patronizing, but interesting none the less. The whole billionaire tycoon and bubbly girl who some how turns up at his house for work is an old af trope. But this show does have an intriguing flavor to it. I like that the hero is humble. Props. I like that he is human and not a heartless S.O.B. I like the mother-son angle. A lead with mommy issues again not a new trope.. basically everything in this show so far is nothing new.. but the actors do bring in a freshness to it. I also like the sister-brother tension. Always coming in second to an elder sibling is something I'm sure many of us have felt and while she comes off as being ungrateful, I think there's genuine hurt behind her petulance. I'd like to see this relationship go somewhere and hope she doesn't become another mindless vamp.

Ofc there are a few things that annoyed me as well. The whole kitchen-is-my-place by the mom made me gag so hard I can't even. Simply watching it made me feel I set back feminism by many years. There was some dialog about an ugly boy deserved to be an engine driver...smh. So much smh. Indian TV is as regressive as ever and I have come to expect it but it does hit hard when you've stayed away for a while.

Overall it's a pretty show with some pretty faces and a half decent story. I'm in.

This show definitely has something with it that gets viewers to connect with it. Be it Shaheer Sheikh and Supriya Pilgaonkar flawless acting supported by a really good cast or even the characters,,, so varied.. a mother's obsession for her son, her insecurities, a difficult past, .. Dev's caring and protective character, Neha's frustrations, sonakshi's supportive family... It has substance to keep you glued to it...
I believe it will get better with the start of Dev and Sonakshi's love story.

I like your point of how the show is a little bit regressive. I totally agree with it. I had initially thought that the show would be very progressive, at least that's what the promos hinted at. But like you said, there's quite a few regressive implications. That said, I do appreciate how the show is trying to navigate the field between them. I actually think it was pretty necessary for Sonakshi to learn to how to cook, or at least get motivated to learn. Not because she's a woman, but because cooking is an essential surviving skill; everyone should have at least some knowledge of cooking, regardless of gender.

And I also agreed with your point on the sibling tension. I really enjoyed today's Neha-Dev interaction. Sibling fights are often contrived on other shows but I feel like this show is different in that regard. Although that might be in part due to my like of Neha's character. I find her so intriguing. She's a very well done grey character, all of them are actually.

And finally, I agree on the whole actors bringing freshness to their roles! That said, I do think the acting could improve when it comes to the leads.

Great analysis!

Res. Also hi Bolty.
Unres~

So when I first watched the episode, i loved the subtlety in the characters. Although the story is the typical rich boy, poor bubbly girl track, the way they have the shaped Sonakshi's character is actually very different. She's not a pushover who lets the guy treat her in whatever way he wants. This job was her Last option.. when she tried her best, but failed. This was the only way out for her to make a living and support her family. Also, I like that Dev isn't the stereotypical businessman of indian tv. Yes, money is his first resort to solving his problems, but he doesn't flaunt it around. For him, money gives his safety and assurance. Sometimes the mom part felt a little OTT, not my kind of stuff, but overall i liked the potrayal of the caring son and mother. Coming to Ishwari, she grey. thats all I can say for now. I have yet to catch up on monday and tuesday's episodes, but from what I have seen, i feel like Dev is more like a lifeline for her. She feels insecure, unsafe without him. She feels invaded. As soon as that other girl (don't remember her name) started getting close with dev during the engagement, Ishwari felt that her security was at risk, hence the whole drama in constantly making Dev go get drinks or whatever to avoid him and the girl meeting. I wouldn't say Ishwari's bad, but her past has shaped her to be super clingy and possesive of her son, that she can go to any limits to keep it that way. There is such contrast between teh Bose family and the Dixit family. In Dixit, they have their riches, both dev and his sweet things to each other, but it all seems so surface level to me. theres still that awkwardness between them. Whereas in the Bose family, its difference. They don't have that much money, but they are happy. they tease each other, they fight with each other, but the atmosphere is more comfortable. Thats a good area for the CVs to explore.

Agree with the show starting to get regressive. Its mostly just Ishwari, like when she was skeptical about Riya's work, but I feel like the makers may show her slowly starting to be more openminded, and then maybe we can see some progression there.

As of now, Neha is by far the my favorite. For me, at this point, more than romance, i wish to see the internal conflicts between the dixit family. Neha's the only one that says things as they are. no sugarcoating, no diplomacy, just the plain blunt truth. She does whine alot, but i can understand and sympathize with her. It must be really hard to be the ignored child in the family, who has had to sacrifice nearly everything for the sake of her family. But one thing I love about her is that although she does have issues with them, she loves them deeply, like when she was caring for her mom when she was sick. It was a new shade to her personality. She not fully black, not fully white. She's grey and realistic. For her, I do not want any love story type situation for her at this moment. She needs to secure her identity first. Learn to be independent, get a job, get education, and do everything that she was denied of. It'l bring her out of her shell and also make her see things from other's perspective.

I hope so. I hope it gets better. I think the mother isn't the sati savitri she claims to be and we need Dev to see that. The whole family is so dysfunctional. But it's interesting enough.

When I wrote the post I hadn't yet watched the latest episodes (caught up now though :'D #The Power Of Binge watching) It was with reference to that one dialog from episode one. It KILLED me. Something about if a woman cries she goes to the kitchen. If a woman is happy she goes to the kitchen. *insert gag*

Neha is actually my favourite so far. (Apart from the leads ofc)She's projected as being ungrateful petty etc... but I think she has genuine reason to be. And another dumb regressive idea about how a woman not having a baby is somehow a crime and indicates having no 'values' *insert more gag* Which is actually interesting because now I want to see where this Neha character is taken.

Thanks for the comment :) Let's talk more as the show..hopefully.. gets better :* :)

I miss Twitter. The gift of 140 characters. I didn't know you can write so much. Mai kya reply karoon 😃

Agree with all of the above. I relate with Neha in many ways. Don't you? She's very human and real. I liked her dialog esp 'I never asked for anything when I was a child so now I want everything' Very touching.

PS- I've been here like five minutes and people already think I'm picking a fight. This is HILARIOUS. I love forums. Ask our people, esp, genie to watch this show na. She'll DIE if she hears the kitchen dialog.

For real?? HAHAHA!! Its back to the good old days, was really missing these forum accusations and ocasional fanwars. Hilarious indeed!😆😆 Also can you believe it Genie's already watching!! haha, she told me she only watches it for Neha because thats the only character she can relate to. She's not too fond of the main leads though, she finds the girl annoying and the guy too hamming. 😆 but i don't know if she's heard the kitchen dialogue yet. I cant wait to see her reaction🤣

Just dropping in to say, I heart you and that I find the characters really decent-ish but Neha is by far my fav. She is something unique and I really really hope they don't go for the romance or love story angle . And let the family dynamics play out. Also, Don't make Neha vampy. Pray Circle.
I am sick and tired of mommy-daddy issues for ML . Been there, done that. Yet here the Maa-Beta angle is different in terms of treatment except the kitchen politics.

I am actually intrigued how blatant is Mom's sexist behaviour. Each daughter feels and adapts to it differently.

I saw the kitchen dlg -died. I like Neha, can they make her the story. Please, please. I have a bet with Box going about her. 😆
