CHAPTER THREE

After my mother left I was alone in the room. The tears that welled up in my eyes escaped. I wiped them off then laid down on my bed and covered up myself with a blanket. I was so tired that I soon drifted into sleep.

I woke up to a loud thud in the room. I immediately I jumped in sitting position on my bed. Who was it? the night had fallen in and I knew somehow it was really late.

"Hey relax it just me" I heard a female voice

Oh it was just Pooja. For a while I just thought it was some guy who broke in probably the rude boy Dev came to just scare me. Wait why was I thinking about Dev again?

"Go back to sleep Sonakshi" Pooja said in a hoarse voice

Was Pooja drunk or crying I couldn't make out so I switched on the lamp next to my bed on the study table and then I saw Pooja's eyes blood red and her hair all misplaced and a sad smile on her face.

"Are you ok?" I asked her

"Yes I'm fine don't worry just some boyfriend drama" she said and jumped into her bed and closed her eyes.

"Um good night Pooja" I said because I didn't know what else to tell her

She didn't reply. I switched off the lamp and went back to sleeping.

Early in the morning I heard the alarm ring and got up but Pooja was still asleep. Today will be the first day in college and it has to be good. I got out of the bed, walked out of the room towards the washroom.

After like half an hour of struggle I still couldn't decide what to wear this has never happened to me before. Well yes thanks to Dev he has made me all self-conscious. If I take so much time to get ready I will probably be late for class.

I pulled on an ice blue coloured jeans and a black plain top to wear it was simple and yet looked great on me. The jeans material hugged my legs and the black top hung loosely around my hips. I tied my hair into a high pony tail and applied a layer a kohl and pale lip gloss and I was ready. Before leaving I stood in front of the mirror staring at myself wondering if I looked fine. What if Dev still think I look like a potato? I wondered but then hey why the hell should I care. And he is Pooja's friend so he is obviously going to be in her class and not mine.

I ran towards my college building which was a little far off the dorm rooms and accommodation area.

Catching my breath when I finally reached my class, I saw very few students waiting there and the class has not yet began. Oh thank god I'm not late on the first day of college. I walked inside the class and looked around the room to find a seat for me to sit. I noticed the girl I met in the corridor sitting at the corner reading a book, Bhavika I remembered her name. I walked towards her and sat next to her but she did not look up and kept on reading her book.

"Hi Bhavika" I said to grab her attention

"Oh hi" Bhavika said finally looking up from her book

"Are you ready for your first Anatomy class?" I asked her

"Yeah I'm ready but I don't know if I will be able to handle the cadaver they creep me out" she said with a laugh and I laughed along with her.

Yeah cadavers are really creepy.

Once I read an article about the first experience with the cadavers and the smell of formalin that made the 1^st year student puke and sometimes faint too. I was freaking out now. What if I faint? My mom will leave everything back home and come here taking the first train. No Sonakshi it's just a dead body it won't eat you up I kept repeating that in my mind until I felt my nerves calm.

I saw a middle aged man enter the room wearing a white lab coat, his face was covered with a warm and welcoming smile.

"Good morning everyone. Welcome to Mumbai medical college. I'm your anatomy professor Dr. krishna Sarkar Thakur" he said and smiled at us

"Good morning sir" everyone said together

"Let's began your first class of the year and todat I will teach you general anatomical terms which are basics for this subject" he said began to write on the board behind him

The class continues for about an hour and Dr. Thakur gave us a rough idea about the subject anatomy and the scientific terms that we use while studying the subject. There were so many new terms that I was about to hyperventilate. How will I remember so many words all together? Anatomy did sound interesting but there was a lot to study in it. I'm sure this subject will require a lot of hard work.

"okay class time is up I will see you all tomorrow and we will be going in details about anatomy and I will introduce new topic the human upper limb come prepared for next class. And those who have any doubts please stay back and clear them out" Dr. Thakur said as the class got over

"Bhavika lets go" I said

"Um you go Sonakshi I have few doubts that I need to clear out with professor" she said and started to take out her book that she was reading in the beginning. The book cover read "HUMAN ANATOMY" and I smiled to myself thinking about how dedicated she was towards her studies. She will definitely become one of the finest doctors, I could tell. I smiled and waved her bye and walked out of the lecture hall.

"Oh look who's here no more potato skirt today huh?" I heard someone say and turned around and found the person I was fearing sanding there right behind me with a wicked smile.

His comment annoyed me and I felt the heat rise to my skin. Why can't he mind his own business? Wait what is Dev doing here? In the anatomy department? No please god, I hope he is not a medical student or else I will have to tolerate him and his rude comments for 5 years. Why is he so rude to me I have just met him once and I haven't done anything at all, then why should he always find ways to embarrass me?

"Please Dev go away" I said and started to walk

What was I thinking? Obviously he did not listen to me instead he started following me.

"Hello doctor won't you help me out I'm in pain" he said faking like he was really in pain

"I'm not a doctor yet Dev I'm just in 1^st year and just attended my 1^st class" I said and kept walking

"How bad well then at least come with me to the hospital and help me find a doctor?" he asked

Was he really in pain? I stopped and turned around when I bumped into him hard and fell right on top of him. My pony tail hit his face and he closed his eyes. I looked at him intently studying his features. My eyes ran through his facial features, his sharp jaw line, thick eyebrows, stretched forehead, pointed nose and his lips looked kissable.

OH MY GOD. Did I just think about kissing his lip? I'm going crazy.

"Like what you see?" he asked as he stared right into my eyes

"Oh please stop being obsessed with yourself Dev. I wasn't even looking at you" I lied

"Whatever" he said and looked away

Why was I still on top of him? I should get up now I thought and tried to move myself but I could not move. His strong arms were securely wrapped around my waist holding me and our bodies were pressed together. Immediately I felt the heat raise in my cheeks I knew I was turning red. Never had I been so close to any boy physically, ever. And this was just too close he is literally holding my waist.

OH MY GOD

"Let go of me" I said and tried to move away

"Yeah it not like I want to keep holding you anyway. Get away you're too heavy I might break few of my bones" Dev said and loosen his grip on my waist so that I could get up. His expression were blank.

And he was back to being the jerk he is. The rude and obnoxious monster that he is. Why brain why were you thinking about kissing him? I stood up from the floor picking up my bag.

"Come let's go" Dev said

"I'm not going anywhere with you" I snapped back

"Oh come please just help okay? I don't know this place around and I really need to find a doctor" he said

"Why what happened?" I asked concern flashing inside me.

Well it's a doctor's thing being concerned for patients. Yeah so it was totally okay if I was concerned for him.

"Nothing I just need some pain killer" he said

"Okay I will help you find a doctor" I said

And he smiled for the first time he smiled normally not that wicked evil one. I liked him when he smiled normally.

We started to walk towards the hospital wing trying to find someone who can help

"Let's go ask the receptionist" I said pointing towards the main entrance door

He didn't say anything just nodded and walked beside me.

"Hey can you guide us?" I asked smiling at the receptionist when I reached her desk

"1^st year? You need to see a doctor?" she asked

"Yes a physician please" I replied

"Okay go straight take a right and enter the 2^nd last room. You will find Dr. Thakur there" she said

I thanked her and started to walk with Dev behind me. I don't know why he was so quite all this while. Usually Dev would keep commenting something just to get on my nerves.

When we reached Dr. Thakur cabin I knocked and got inside. Dev still followed behind without saying a word.

"Excuse me" I said when I entered his chamber

"Yes how I can help you?" Dr. Thakur had a warm smile on his face

"Not her it's me" Dev said walking in front now

"Dev are you ok?" Dr. Thakur said when he saw him

He knows who Dev is? How? I thought Dev didn't know where to go and which doctor to find so he needed help. This means Dev is a regular patient?

"Dear please would you leave us I want to talk to him alone" Dr. Thakur asked me

"Yes sir" I said and walked out of his cabin. Confusion still clouding my thoughts.
