hahaha brilliant quote from Huckleberry Finn Indi di..
Are we on the Sangeet episode? I remember you saying it reminds you of your mad sangeet.. My first watch I didn't like it.. Khushi's dress, earrings, the ghul milke rehne wala dulha, her expressions (bleh), even his dance.. slowly you have won me over about his dance.. There is a certain inimitable ASR style in declaring love openly and dancing if thats what the love of his life, his wife, loves.

I still don't like the rest though. The fact that mami and NK apparently know trade ASR Khushi secrets takes away a bit from those special moments. Also its I guess supposed to be funny, but I would have rather gone for the "Aww how romantic" effect.. maybe Payal and Akash could have imitated their siblings, instead. The makers have almost forgotten them, but those two did have a cute scene when they walked in on ASR trying flirt with his bride rather than go for haldi..

hi rhea,

oh khushi looked unreal here. the dress, hair, make up, and icky girlieness... then those earrings. of course sangeet is gloopy and silly... but after the complete pointlessness and lack of coherence of the past few days, i guess i just enjoyed the goofiness... bas.

of course, making a dizzying show out of all things asr khushi is messing with the intrinsic value of all those moments, the pristine and elegant romance itself... had writers been in any control of their art, they wouldn't have ever needed this sangeet... but since we had tocome here and resisting was futile, i just decided to get into a bashor ghor over smiley mode and let it come.

as for asr's dance, so glad you are not too nahiiin about it now. had story been on course would he have danced? don't think we need answer that one. but now that he was dragged into doing it, i thought both barun and asr pulled it off with aplomb. was i glad they made him do this? again, no need to look for an answer.

there's very little to like about all we shall see now on, except for the farmhouse... so i am trying to see why indeed i did stick around and not toodle off. i guess i was looking for some, any, whatever reason... having loved it all so much, was doing all i could to not let go. pagal.

love and its reduction
episode 347

takes cojones (in the strictly english usage of the word) to do what asr did. what barun did.

it "reduced" asr to super cool lover. it signaled barun is indeed that ephemeral thing called star.

shimmy shimmy. one two bend flip. towel two towel four. mujhse shaadi karogi?

i couldn't breathe when he said "love can reduce anyone to anything." there is a strange and dangerous to one's health truth in that statement. and when he started his number with that little sexy pose i was prepared to sit back and enjoy but not leap up and hoot; and collapse into helpless laughter yelling "so cuuute." breathing had become difficult again.

this post is devoted to a man in black.

i came across this poem by michael ondaantje the other day, was reading him for the first time. no knowledge, judgment, nothing, read the poem and the words jolted within me. hit me hard and wouldn't leave. a bit like barun that first time i saw him. some things really can't be explained.

the poem's erotic images kept playing asr and khushi in my mind. was waiting for the right reference to share it here. then he danced. and the poem said, write me.

"if i were a cinnamon peeler
i would ride your bed
and leave the yellow bark dust
on your pillow.

your breasts and shoulders would reek
you could never walk through markets
without the profession of my fingers
floating over you. the blind would
stumble certain of whom they approached
though you might bathe
under rain gutters, monsoon.

here on the upper thigh
at this smooth pasture
neighbor to your hair
or the crease
that cuts your back. this ankle.
you will be known among strangers
as the cinnamon peeler's wife.

i could hardly glance at you
before marriage
never touch you
-- your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers.
i buried my hands
in saffron, disguised them
over smoking tar,
helped the honey gatherers...

when we swam once
i touched you in water
and our bodies remained free,
you could hold me and be blind of smell.
you climbed the bank and said

this is how you touch other women
the grasscutter's wife, the lime burner's daughter.
and you searched your arms
for the missing perfume.
and knew
what good is it
to be the lime burner's daughter
left with no trace
as if not spoken to in an act of love
as if wounded without the pleasure of scar.

you touched
your belly to my hands
in the dry air and said
i am the cinnamon
peeler's wife. smell me."

he has left the yellow turmeric paste mark on her. he will ride her bed no doubt. but when the hatred descends and the night is bereft, when a thousand dreams break, and there's separation once more, she will know his scent is on her. he makes love to her. and the dance goes on. she is arnav singh raizada's wife. (i wrote most of this take after watching the episode while the show was on... everything pointed toward a separation back then.)

but for now, i just want to stay with that dance. took asr to another level, this short crazy number. some truths our gut tells us, our brain processes much later, and our heart feels its joy for long afterward.

the fact that he got his girl. got what made her feel good. the fact that he was willing to shed inhibitions, step way out of his comfort zone, because that smile in her heart gave him a high, a spin, a buzz. it mattered more than his hard held ideas. he was willing to cross the line he'd drawn. that took him to another whole new level.

and then there was the execution of this decision. stop stop stop goes the heart, fingers slow down on the keyboard. did he plan it ahead, did he do an impromptu? does it matter? one look at him in his close hugging long jacket and narrow pants, legs endlessly long but planted firmly, face unmoving, except for the glitter in his eyes. you knew asr is here, and he'll make an offer you can't refuse.

it didn't matter i wasn't a salman fan, i'd never seen the towel step, i had no resonance with the song, in fact, had thought it was a pretty ordinary song before this. all that got through was the determined can do-ness of a beautiful man, a bit awkward yet hypnotic, a keenness in his eyes, a trust in his body, even if he didn't know what he was doing, he'd get it better than everybody. and he did.

a friend who'd never seen barun properly before but thought he was good looking in stills was sitting by me watching, she kept laughing and saying: wow, he's so cute, like a kid, so fresh, wow. today she said she hadn't slept much last night, kept on thinking of him. i smiled. happens.

the low angle shots flattered his build and looks no end. his teeth, those front incisors, hmmm. added something extraordinarily sexy to expressions.

he held out his hand inviting her to join him, then strode over instead to get her on the stage. asr takes command. always.

"will you marry me?" in the language he is comfortable in, but words weren't required, the heat and passion mixed with adoring tenderness, even your utterest sanak can't make you look away from that.

on my later watches i just didn't like the shot of asr in a "dream" sequence, though the first time i didn't mind it. but really, no, asr does not slip into dream scenarios where he is dancing giddily. teri meri during kidnap was different, it was tightly knit into their story and his anguish, his need. not so here, and felt just cheesy... off.

she had spoken to him of the future earlier, painted a picture which perhaps he never had for himself... a picture of happiness. maybe there was even a story there of asr, a young man who had become old before his time and who at ast could feel his youth, its exuberance, its spontaneity, thanks to this girl, her love, her ability to make his worl lighter, easier... director took pains to show us he was affected by what she said... stirred. perhaps that was used as "logic" to explain his proposal with dance. but something in it just didn't work. the dialogues too gooey, khushi somehow just not right. a spot of overacting... and really body language of sanaya not khushi. thankfully, it didn't mater finally, because i just was touched by an audacious young man, both the character and the actor.

that creatives had lost interest by now was most evident. an envelope lying on a table with a yellow cover kept being shown on a different background in close ups. an inconsequential envelope at that with a pointless story.

but my mind was really on asr.
1. he took off his shades and turned to the man begging for his attention and said: hai na... chachaji.
2. he walked as though drawn by a force unknown toward her, in control, completely out of it. the water in the pool swirled, lamps glimmered, all thought disappeared.
3. he looked up and roared ferociously at the elements; at betrayal and the breaking of dreams.
4. he sat with her still body in his arms on a cliff's edge, begging her to return, come back to him. he said her name forty three times, some said 75.
5. he did the towel dance.

then there's him smiling as she confesses to pouring mango juice into his shoes and not orange because she couldn't get any, and him saying "aur main," him switching from despair to determination in 310; him saying he needs nothing else. in each, the incredible evolution of asr.

i learnt something too as i watched this episode, i had never really known it before. love can reduce anyone to anything. it can reduce carbon to diamond. it can reduce emotions to epiphany.

mujhse shadi karogi?

more in black:

1. whom can i send flowers to for the three amigos scene? and how many times will the man who never wanted to marry say shadi, now shadi, only left shadi? 😕 😆

2. while it's lovely to show a merging of thoughts and things as side effect of pyaar, the "what thes" and the "relax" repartee from khushi is beginning to jar.

3. kauon ka party. 😆

4. i want lavanya to jump out of a cake and vamp asr. c'mon let's see how devoted our man is. maybe kkgsr will arrive to make an offer he can't refuse? (i wrote this before seeing 348 and hyuk, she did exactly that.)

5. the necklace scene was beautiful.

6. yeh shyam abhi bhi ajeeb hai, aur dadi ek puri ajeeb dastaan hain.

7. anjali on that towel dance doing her girly one, intolerable.

8. barun sobti is a find.

9. when i was having a minor affair (in my daydreams what else) with harrison ford, my husband bought me a book on him, two turtles called harrison and ford, and the entire indiana jones series. i didn't mind that i was called indi. i reminded him of that just now and he snarked: hah! how fleeting is thy love! 😆 he also said if i wanted to meet barun, he'd arrange it. uff, towel dancer, kahinke.

that thing in barun, in asr, that always speaks of innate intelligence and a most sexy snarkiness.

😳

he was in love and he could do things for his lover many would balk at... now why is that so so appealing. feet firmly planted, long legs causing mayhem, he prepared to let himself become a laughing stock if need be, but he had understood love does reduce you... to your very essence.

episode 347

hey towel dancer...

when asr appeared on the stage with a group of dancers and did the towel number, there was uproar on the the forum. some hated the whole thing, some couldn't believe what had just happened and some just loved the whole thing. i belonged to the last group. i still remember my state of mind and suddenly bursting into laughter to exhale really, for my breath had been caught in my throat long.

Sangeet ...of Hearts and Souls
Epi-347

"Will You Marry me"

A sangeet ..happened before..on Teri Meri Night

and he asked her that night in front of every eye, "Poora nahin karogi..."[ won't you finish it...after seeing her standing alone , feeling embarrassed and sad of thinking to lose in front of LaadGovernor from whom losing is like a punishment to her...Like what does he think of himself.

That ASR who opened up to her ...opened up to the world that there is more than this Haar and Jeet..[winning and losing]

Today, he was again standing there to inform this world that there is nothing more than making his lover his ...by all means.

Tonight,She challenged him by telling NK, leave it , he can't do it and he showed the world and to her tiny heart that what can he do? What length he can go for her because"Love can reduce anyone to anything.."

He danced over Teri Meri just for her to tell her that lets start again...lets fall in Love again...Lets remove our differences to move forward with these heartbeats...
and he danced tonight again ,just for her. to ask her hand for him, but did he need that no.Because he knew she is with him for eternity ,but this is her wish and her tiny request to see his Laad Governor to seek her hand in front of this world...filmy ...oh yea, she wants her Arnavji as Salman Khan and he delivered her wish in no time...

Without caring anything ,but her heart and their soul which replenishes always with her smile...

Will you marry me?
Yes...I will marry you.

Tonight, Sangeet of hearts mingles with souls forever...

A Quenchless Thirst...
Epi-348

A passionate love is a quenchless thirst...which Arnav and Khushi shared every moment .The moment the came closer ,their hearts felt a fear.A fear of losing themselves.A fear of losing their self guarded hearts which had no control anymore over anything. The hearts which screamed and pleaded to stay away from each other by yelling at loud " humain koi Fadak nahin padta.."[ It doesn't matter to me]

He shoved her around by hitting all sorts of insults when she got engaged , he cut his own hand imagining someone else who had touched her by putting ring on her hand.He punished her along with himself by shoving her aside on Diwali night...
"Mere liye uss baat ki , ya tumhari koi ehmiyat nahin" [You or whatever we had couple of minutes before ,have no meaning to me]

Yet her bleeding finger made him fuss about and he announced her his by putting ring of bandage on her in front of God, as he doesn't believe in it.

He saw someone hugging her , he filled her maang with Sindoor as he hated her so much yet Ranjha was nothing without heer.He wished he could die with her.

He left her crying over the airport ,but couldn't "kyuon Khushi se door jane main itti taqleef ho rahi hai..[Why is it so difficult going away from Khsuhi?]..Yes ! He accepts that he loves her no matter what and being miles away he confesses that he tried his best ,but he couldn't hate her...yet he wants to be with her ..for forever. He doesn't want anything else...

He could go any length to bring a smile over her face as he hated seeing her in tears. He knew how much he had given her .Her wish of Pheras ,just to regain her respect in every eye was his mission.Does he care for that? No! but She wanted it then "Kar ke khatam karte hain...[let's finish it.]

Tonight, a wife pleases her husband just to show her Haq, right without knowing that her innocence was melting him every second.yes , Namak ishq ka...tere ishq ka...She accepted it loud enough boldly that she is in love with him madly and can't stand anyone in between him and her.

A heart-to-heart chat between them. They openly said to each other "I love you, dammit" bu tonight, first time , They talked about their telepathic connection which they hold since from the beginning. Ajeeb... "weird". They smile over the strong pull they have for each other. She could hear him and he could hear her heartbeat as always .He did tell her over Holi,"Our heartbeats become one"...whatever you feel ,I feel...but she was drunk to remember, but he did ...tonight ,they both did.

Khsuhi always knew ,how much he put himself in pain when he has hurt her and gave her tears and tonight, Arnav confessed ,"Har Bar" to her that he could never bear her tears.

I felt to my guts when he said that he felt empty till he met her.How much pain he was holding all these years. It was absolutely heart wrenching when he told her That he couldn't live without her. Arnav Singh Raizada "Jise kissi ladki se Fadak nahin Padta" cannot think of a life without his Khushi and he takes a promise never to leave him as he won't be able to survive..,

Tonight, he brought the stars home so whenever she missed her parents,She could talk to them. Her Vishwas, belief is his now.Even , in telepathy time , he knew she was seeing stars , talking to her parents. He pointed out that his mother is residing right next to her mom and he deliberately chooses a bigger star as her mother with fondness and love .There was no pain,as he knows she shares the same with him.

He apologized after knowing that she is an orphan like him and he was at peace taking her to his sacred Mom's garden where both took blessings as she is his wife no matter what.Everything was for this world.

They smile over their weirdness when her smile and innocence has increased his heartbeat and he turned to kiss her...a natural , longing and urge ,which he controlled seeing her so uncomfortable .He apologized making her calm as he knew better, without marriage she finds all this odd.

His teary eyes, and his confession was more than enough for Khsuhi who could go any length for this man...can give up her life too.She kissed away every pain tonight which she couldn't the night, when he told her that his mom did suicide.

The touch of her lips soothed out his wounds and then the moment she leaned over his lips he took over.He removes every bangle , her earrings, her belt...yes there will be no inhabitant in between two hearts.

I love this scene ever, he kissed every bruise he gave her, he kissed her wrist which always had his fingers' marks on her.He kissed her neck, which he disrespected pulling her duppatta under his shoes that night in Sheesh Mahal.

I love the soberness of ASR which he always kept higher ,no matter what. He says, "Khushi", as if to take her final permission,
This is his respect for his woman who he can't see in tears... and she replies saying, "hum jaante hain" [I know]..and he leans over her lips to quench his thirst...a passionate love of theirs found an oasis tonight.

He brushed his lips across her cheeks, letting her know his intentions fully by raising her heartbeat. She turns her face ...couldn't take it any more .. breathing heavily. He kissed her neck ..when desires took over ...He leans and she hugs him tight ...giving her full permission. His hand gloded slowly over her bare back and fingers flow with elegance over ...and he undid the dori ... keeping her in his gentle embrace, his lips caressed hers, her fair hair framing her perfect back over her shoulders. She never leaves her eyes over his lips while her hand still kept cupping his cheek .His hands remain over her curvacious body, he looked deep into her emerald eyes and knew that he loved her more than anything. ..I love the soberness of ASR which he always kept higher ,no matter what. He says, "Khushi", as if to take her final permission,

This is his respect for his woman who he can't see in tears... and she replies saying while cupping his cheek, "hum jaante hain" [I know]..and he leans over her lips to quench his thirst...a passionate love of theirs found an oasis tonight...having her in his embrace ... excitedly breathing blowing gently on his chest when his arms keeping her head rested over em, move closer to him by deepening his kiss... her hands brushed through his hair till she took em in her fist deepening the moment equally...

Finally he kissed his Khushi tonight...a quenchless thirst reached to an end to a new beginning.

They became one, one day before the day of their formal remarriage.

"Iss pyaar ko kya naam doon?".

Episode 336

Mat jao

Phir kehar banke chaya zaalim zamana
Rok na saka, apnon ke aansuon ka behana
Aise waqt mein, chodkar na jao
Zara ruk jao, mat jao

Zaroorat hai mujhe tumhari, pehle se zyaada
Mujhe toot te huye dekhna, hai waqt ka iraada
Ye hone na dogi, ek baar kehdo
Meri baat maanlo, mat jao ...

Kabhi tumne bhi roka tha, maine na maana
Par tumne na roka, apna pyaar nibhaana
Aaj bhi saath rahogi, dhilasa dila do
Kuch der hi sahi, mat jao ...

Translation:

The cruel world plays havoc again
Couldn't stop the tears flowing from eyes of dear ones
At such a time, don't leave and go
Just wait, don't go ...

More than ever, I need you
Time wants to see me broken
You won't let this happen, say once
Listen to me, don't go ...

Once you too had stopped me, I didn't heed
But you never stopped standing by your love
Today too you'll be with me, convince me
Maybe just for a while, don't go ...

Phir kehar banke chaya zaalim zamana

what does kehar mean? it sounds beautiful.

i was close to tears reading this. and missing my mr raizada. thanks for these four poems, durga. shall read them, slowly and enjoy.

Kehar means havoc, devastation, utter chaos which Arnav's life has suddenly become.

the namak of love
episode 348

agar aisa hua toh hum bhi arnav ji ko nahin chhorenge...
if that happens, i'm not going to spare (leave) arnav ji.

of course, should the man you have vowed not to "chhoro" say in a crisp voice pointing at a star in your private planetarium,
"dekho... woh meri maa hai," look, that's my mother... you'll pause a bit. he never used to believe in stars you might think and the wonder of it fill your heart as yo look up at the gleaming object on the ceiling.

then should he say, "aur usske bilkul saath, tumhari..." and right close to that, yours... you'll feel a strange deep comfort in your being and turn and throw your arm around him, cuddling up, head on his heart, right there on the floor on that white spread and settle down to asking what only you could ask at this moment.

"aap koh kya lagta hai, kya baatein kar rahe honge?"
what do you think, what are they talking about.

talking, baatein.

i laughed as i heard that question asked in a soft happy curious voice. that was khushi, and so spontaneously so.

of course, stars must not only be your loved ones departed, they must also talk... communicate. after all without "baatein" how can anyone live, even if they're heavenly bodies, right? and naturally, the most uncommunicative person on earth must be asked to think about what those stars are saying to each other.

thing is, he didn't freak out, he held her closer and she answered her own question (not unusual). they must be happy because their kids have found sachcha pyaar, she said. true love.

at this point, you think there might be a heartbreaking slanting smile... instead, a serious question came from the man in smart casuals who looks almost preppy, and yet chilli pepper hot:

"
tumhe kaise pata chala ki yeh sachcha pyaar hai?"
how do you know this is true love?

maybe because he was never happy with cliched ideas... he needed always to know things in a way he could make sense of... or because he just knew this was the truest feeling he had ever felt but wondered how she could tell... what made it true for her... just as she'd asked a question only she could, he asked one only he would.

rational examiner and extra rational believer, they had to meet, there had to be...

lying beside him our madam in her scintillating black chiffon and glinting silver and diamond jewellery with hot pink nails and glistening lips, dressed to dance and vamp him as per the punishment for breaking up his bachelor party, said, of course she knew, because every tear of hers hurt him a thousand times...

he replied, looking into her trusting hazel eyes... every time. har baar.

true love.

an episode so immersed in it, every moment touched and connected and stayed.

she had come to give him hell of course. having found out a little too late that nanhe ji's kauon ka jalsa and arnav ji's bachelor's party were not exactly an antakshari playing zone with plenty golgappe.

when payal finally got through to her and the vision of chudail came skittering in one dizzy moment, khushi rushed over to claim her man, no question of chhoroing him if he's dared to have "those" sort of girls at the party. none of the soft gentle khushi ji here. while i giggled madly at the ridiculously drunk nk and akash, and the hissing and hauling by payal and thought, really these guys should do a "friends" like show together, khushi got busy snarling and yelling for her man.

poor nk. did you see his horror at the new avatar of his lovely innocent friend...

at last she saw her arnav ji and his chudail... a telltale silhouette on the window.

she went ballistic and whirled into the room. arnav ji however was chilling on the bed, huh? he was surprised apparently...

"khushi? tum yahan kya kar rahi ho?"
khushi? what are you doing here?

did she even look at him once? no. she was checking under the bed, here there, every corner...

"kahan hai wo? kahan hai wo chudail?"
where is she, hollered kkgsr, where is that banshee (okay nothing sounds as good as chudail...)

"excuse me? kaun?"
excuse me? he was taken aback, who?

"hatiye! aap chup rahiye..."
move! snapped the sweet girl, you shut up!

see this is true love and it must say what it must, samjhi tum. i guffawed at her state. i bet her lover boy wished he could too. she was funny.

he brought out chudail from behind the counter, her hair as false as khushi's but alas also her heart, and pair haath kandhe... everything. it was a mannequin.

i can imagine khushi's tension and her relief. while the note of this part of episode was comedy, within it you could feel the truth of emotions. it's a horrid feeling isn't it when you think the man you love is anywhere even remotely near another woman... of the chudail kind i mean.

he had to ask her something though,

"khushi, tumhe sach mein lagta hai ki main aisa kar sakta hoon?"
khushi, do you really think i can do something like that?

he needed, it seemed, to know how she really viewed him. it mattered clearly.

"n..nahin..."
no, she stuttered.

it was her fear, the fear of a lover. that was all. i thought of the fear that must have caught him in its death grip when he saw her with shyam that night.

did he really think she could do that? of course not... but he was a lover, and the fear of losing, of not being loved perhaps stalks a true one.

he teased her. he'd been salman for her, said the towel dancer, and now that she has spoiled his party, "sazaa toh milegi!" you'll get punishment. he whispered the penalty in her ear.

she burst out, "n..nahin... hum nahin kar sakte!" no! i can't do that.

oh but she did.

in chiffon and black too.

with skimpy blouse and lots of bare ivory skin, a thin shimmering chain around her svelte waist, highlighting her navel. she had dressed up for the kaua all right.

when the black figure appeared at the doorway and asr sat up, a bemused look in his eyes, and a definite feeling of creatures of the night in the frame, i was intrigued. what was going on?

then the figure moved, it was khushi. she sat on the floor, took her position, and lifted her veil... a sultry song began to drench the scene. the girl in the colour of night stood up and began to shimmy forward... and tripped.

the dumbstruck bachelor party boy leapt up and held her to steady her.

then came one of the most funny, sexy, gorgeous dance sequences i have ever seen. she was the innocent trying to be sensual, she was filmi enough to want to get it right and yet not adept at exactly this level of raunchiness (oh it was that). and he was amused and slightly shocked, totally tender though... enjoying it and yet kind of falling apart laughing... pretending he wanted to get away, oh but did he.

together they had a zing that only they have. how can anything this bizarre be so so arousing... and at the same time utterly sweet too. you could feel the heat in both of them rise, though the laughter tried hard to maintain sanity.

namak issq ka. the salt of love... no, true love... this was that and
said with an earthy accent too. i thought sanaya was spectacular in this dance. the shading of emotions, corny touched with happy and innocent and just plain sensual. a girl so in love, a girl who wants to do things she never thought she'd want to, a girl who wants to show her man how much he means to her even if she is embarrassed as hell and is trying to not feel the obvious sensuality of the song she dances to. and yes, sanka devi, who every once in a way gets totally carried away with her moves.

i had wanted la to leap out of a cake at this party, khushi stole out of the dark and took the night on a breathless trip instead.

no wonder arnav ji was in such a state. did he ever think such a torrent of craziness would waylay him one day and turn his world upside down.

i can't imagine any other jodi giving this dance all that sanaya and barun did. maybe shashi kapoor and rakhee could have taken it to a point, but there's a fun in these two, as also an elegance, and an unbridled innocence, a swiftness and a stay... don't think i've seen it anywhere else.

how did they turn what should have been just corny to chaotically lovely.

finally they tumbled onto the bed, and she held his face in her hands, looking up at him...

"kya karne aayi thi yahan?
why did you come here, he asked softly.

"aapko yeh batane aayi thi ki aappar sirf hamara huq hai!"
i came to tell you, that only i have a right over you! she was not shy.

"aur agar koi chudail aapke paas aayi to hum usse..."
and if that banshee comes near you, then, i'll...

"usse kya? kya karogi tum?"
you'll what? what will you do? asked the man laughing, wanting to feel her possessiveness, wanting to belong to her.

"usse jaake maar dalenge... lekin usse pehle usske baal noch lenge..."
i'll go and kill her, said khushi without any hesitation... then bared her cat fight fangs, before that
she would go pull out her hair.

a curiously telling conversation. she had come to tell him at last... he was hers. she had huq on him. at last, what he had wanted her to feel she did feel completely... enough to say it out loud.

chudails have their uses. he was clearly thrilled at being owned by this pagal.

they smiled at each other... a private moment, of pure owning perhaps.

"tumhe kuch dikhana hai..." want to show you something, he said, and led her to the room where he had set up some stars moon and planets for her.

she was perplexed, apprehensive even. what was he up to.

and then she began to understand.

when he said, "mujhe laga ki tumhe jabbhi apni amma babu ji ki yaad aayegi toh..." i though when you miss your parents you can...

i thought of commitment, love, and his plan to make her part of his life as he had promised long back when he had hurt her terribly... "zindagi ka hissa" i think he had said.

they lay in each other's arms, a little aroused, but more really feeling a mad absolute tenderness, a peace. a little time away from everything, all the noise and observances of the days gone by, just by themselves, chatting, saying things, loving.

"aapko pata hai ekbaar hume aise laga tha jaise aapne hume awaz deethi!" she mentioned his kidnap, anguish in her voice, she had thought one day, he had called out to her.

"deethi."
he had, he said.

the stars connected them to that intense absolute emotion they had that made them so "ajeeb" they spoke across distances. i liked the use of stars as an integral part of story telling, again that elegant design of ipk, where nothing was there for no reason. star talk could have easily become a devise to establish khushi's cuteness, her optimism in a syrupy sort of way... but here, the stars wrap around the love story, a part of it. as he pointed up to a star, i was reminded of the day she had soothed his aching heart and shown him those stars in the sky, her amma and babu ji and he had asked surprising even perhaps himself, can my mother see me? does she like what she sees? this scene was a mirror in a way of that scene. their story of love going forward through familiar routes.

"hum dono..."
the two of us... said one

"kitne ajeeb hain..."
are so strange finished the other.

then the stars played a trick. they went off. and she reached out to find the remote... when he stopped her hand.

in an instant, everything changed. into the evening came a longing, a desire, that no one had planned for... perhaps that's why it was so sweet... it had to be fulfilled.

i must give a salaam to the writer, director, and actors for crafting that moment. it was so natural... man woman. in it an innate attraction, a thing between two people that only they feel and they understand. sex is such a general and amorphous term. but really, when two people want each other, sense each other, want to make love to each other, there is something specific to it. every love story and its love making is unique i think.

that moment when she reached and he stopped her and something ignited could have only come to their lives in that way at that moment. there's thankfully, no heavy handed setting up of story to reach here... it flows naturally from all that has been happening for a while... even that forced separation, he longs to hold her hand and sleep by her, he yearns for her. then there's all that excitement of chudail releasing many things in her... of course the namak dance that leaves the dampness of issk on the skin...

and there's true love.

when he stops himself and says in that killingly decent way, sorry, i know you don't like all this before shadi... she perhaps by then has felt the call of sachcha pyaar in her heart... understood what he was doing even that suhag raat night when she had reacted without understanding some things.

marriage is not just about pheres. and it is certainly not a licence to have sex. that reduces the beauty of both. as she looked at the man who loved her without inhibition, without reservation, and who felt her pain, her dard, every time, she knew what she must do. she leaned forward and held his face and looked him in the eye and said, i understand, i trust you.

trust... the night he told her of his mother's suicide i felt he did it because he not only loved her, he completely trusted her. for some reason, tonight she felt she had that trust that confidence in him, in his love, in their relationship, to let him go ahead and make love to her.

the first time i had seen this episodes, i'd jumped up in glee and said, she did it, by g she did it... yeah, i was totally upset with khushi's rejection of asr in 318... my problem was not that she said "no" but the manner in which she said it and the reasons she gave.

tonight she grew to another level as she let that need for ritual go and submitted to perhaps one of the highest things human beings encounter... sachcha pyaar.

what followed was intoxicating, exhilarating and have i ever seen such a sensuous and elegant execution of love making anywhere. forum always called this consummation, the word reminds me of georgette heyer and the regency and victorian eras. this was saansey ruk jaygi love making of the most beautiful kind.

consumed the viewer it did though.

i am aware that a lot was edited, i can also see that the editors were not too particular about continuity. one minute khushi's arm is bare but for mehendi and his kiss is landing on it, next minute its full of bangles. i was particularly nahiiin about the doubles used in the close up where he takes off a bangle. at one point i even wondered if that fair back in the long shots was it indeed sanaya's... okay all of this wondering made for many repeated viewings and consuming of viewer.

but really, the story barun and sanaya told with every move, act and expression was hypnotic, flawless, and really love should be like that. and your first time together that blessed and innocent and full of pure fire.

her body had an ease and an eagerness, his a wonder and a restraint, she kissed him tenderly leaving lipstick stains on his cheeks, his lids, he watched her mesmerised, losing himself in her giving. when he took it to the next caress, taking off her jewellery, kissing the inner side of her arm, where the skin was soft and sensitive and her pulse beat nearby, she watched him her eyes lost in feelings she had never felt before.

and when he burying his face in her neck, perhaps kissing her there (i know i know they edited out everything) she was taken aback by her own surge of desire, she had to turn away, losing control slowly, only to return and fling herself against him... he let his hand move up her back to the dori... the one he had snapped mercilessly once, that first time. today, he wanted to untie it again and take her, make her his own.

echoes from all that has been them kept coming and going, making the frame richer, the experience deeper.

he knew he had come to a brink, he had to stop... if she.. "khushi, main..." he said trying to tell her that, but she was ready this time... "hum jaante hain," she said clearly... i know.

and at last he moved forward to kiss her on her lips and covered her with his body... his lover, his wife.

a lyrical quality to the entire interlude. like poetry flowing.

indian tv has never seen such an execution of intimacy... even the movies haven't. but more striking for me was the mindset being explored, the thought expressed here. about feelings about the actions led off these, about what's right what's not... about going beyond ritual... har baar.

a true love story is this... sachcha is its namak.

"hum samajhte hain.. hume bharossa hai."
i understand... i have confidence.

"khushi, mujhse vaada karo, ... ki mujhe kabhi chhorkar nahin jaogi... main tumhare bina nahin jee paoonga..."
khushi, promise me that you'll never leave me and go away... i won't be able to live without you.

aside

~ by the way, who did the decor of the farmhouse? perhaps mami... her colours everywhere, purple satin on the bed? this has got to be the deadly manorama raizada.

~ everyone talked about the fish the next day... i hadn't even noticed them. 😆 😆

~ "okay relax... there's no pressure." how does barun sobti manage to give palpitations with such everyday words. loved the there's no pressure hahaha, asr was being demanding again clearly...

sigh the frown makes an entry in this crucial scene.
