2 days back,I was thinking about Urmila and yesterday I got the news of her marriage.😃Heartiest congratulations to her and wish her a very happy married life.
Anyways,if u look at urmila's career, her first few films were disasters. She was written off by almost every critic.
Then RGV cast her in Rangeela and as they say,the rest is history.Rangeela revived her career and she came to be known as a glamorous actress and a wonderful dancer.
He then cast her in many of his successful films like Bhoot,Jungle,Satya and Kaun.Urmila became a superstar and then went on to do many other successful films.
So should RGV be given credit for Urmila's success?Discuss.

Some of the success, sure.
But Urmila herself is such a talented actress, who was honestly very gorgeous (still is) with a FANTASTIC figure and also really hardworking. She would have been successful anyway.

Definitely, he has a role to play because he is the one who gave her such brilliant roles. But Urmila too did her part by acting well & owning the characters.

to an extent but not entirely. he also launched antara mali, nisha kothari, sameera reddy and others...but urmila had the natural flair to make it big. she is beautiful, a great dancer and a great actress too...she had it there to make it big.
hope that sums up

rgv couldn't repeat the success of urmila with any other so urmila had something in her own ~ so to an extent he is responsible for giving her opportunities but performing brilliantly came only from her.

I haven't watched Rangeela but did watch Bhoot and Jungle when they released and Urmila was really good in both. Jungle is perhaps one of the only few movies I still remember from my younger days. Jungle, I still remember the story and one of the "Item number" songs from Jungle is one of my most favourites.

I don't remember Urmila from 90s or early 2000s. I was too young back then so in my memory only Kajol, Juhi, Rani and Madhuri are the most successful from 1990s or early 2000s. Was Urmila really such a successful actor? I have always thought of her like Shilpa Shetty who is/was in BW and her fame/success was only for a little while not like Priyanka, Kareena or Katrina (in terms of fame and success).

As far as RGV goes, I don't know. But you mentioned Bhoot and Jungle and both were excellent movies so I guess some credit does go to RGV for bringing out the best in Urmila as an actor in the same case as SLB and Aishwarya (I still don't like any of SLB's movies but I only saw the characters Paro and Nandini in Devdas and HDDCS respectively not Ash the actor or the star (was she even a star at the time both of these released?))

p.s. didn't Urmila do a movie with Saif? It was a thriller or something. Perhaps released in early 2000s.

Hes done some great work under RGV but foor me her best work has been outside of RGV's camp:
Judaai, Pyar Tune Kya Kiya, Deewangee, Tehzeeb, Pinjir, Ek Hasina Thi etc

Its not like she only delivered within the RGV camp.

Actually RGV had casted urmila in all his good movies.Maybe success had not gone over his head when he was casting urmila in his films. Then he started making bad movies and ruined antara, nisha and others careers.Barrying main madhuri dikshit banna chahti hoon, rest all his movies that came after he stopped casting urmila were terrible.
So yes, urmila should thank rgv for giving her good movies, good roles and also an opportunity to prove how talented she is.If there was no rangeela, urmila's career would have definitely ended.

not entirely...

NAACH was an excellent film i think it was better than rangeela and antara was superb in it. those movies you called 'bad' flopped at the BO if they were hits and successful they would have been hailed. it's all about acceptance and urmila was accepted.

like I said to an extent but not entirely. she should be grateful and he shall be grateful to her too..stealing limelight from someone from Aamir in Rangeela wasn't an easy task but urmila did it because she could do it.
