@TM: Have you noted that Neerja is not being compared against TWMR or Hamari Adhuri Kahani or Katti Batti or Bajirao Mastani or even Barfi even though all these movies star Sonam's female contemporaries in lead roles? Because these movies are not female-centric, something which is almost being treated as a genre in BW since Kahaani release. Ranbir/Ranveer/Varun/Sid don't have any such 'genre' to work in that they can be compared within. Otherwise, they do get ranked/compared on successes/failure and have their numbers (most especially openings) compared too.
So the comparison here is within a genre, not between females. There's benefits in stories solely about women being considered as a genre on their own because this brings more awareness/social consciousness, but it also treads the dichotomy of segregation vs. inclusion. These are the 'segregated' movies...their inclusion (and therefore comparison) with 'normal' movies can only happen when we reach a state of equality where they will share similar common ground (challenges/advantages.)
ETA: Queen is a female centric movie. Piku was marketed/hyped as movie with a female in the lead role and others in supporting roles, regardless of what it really may be (up to debate as this was being discussed recently.) Why can't a female centric movie be compared against 'male centric' movies, you ask? Let's compare Ranveer's BM or Ranbir's Tamasha vs. Neerja 😆 That's not even going to Salman's BB if you really wanna get male centric 😆
