Sanam Re Movie Review: Pulkit-Yami's Sizzling Chemistry Works As The Trump Card Posted by: Swikriti Srivastava Published: Friday, February 12, 2016, 0:15 [IST] Give your rating: Share this on your social network: FacebookTwitterGoogle+ Comments (0)Mail Divya Khosla Kumar is no stranger to the entertainment industry. She debuted as a director in 2014 with a youth-centric film, Yaariyan and now all set with her second film, Sanam Re. This film has garnered many eyeballs but sadly, not because of his story but alleged affair between the lead casts of the film i.e. Yami Gautam and Pulkit Samrat. Though, many people said it was nothing but a gimmick to promote the film. Sanam Re (U): Book Your Tickets Right Away! So, finally the D-day has arrived to see whether this gimmick (if it is) this and Valentine's day is also around the corner, let's see what this romantic-musical flick has store for all of us. And also get ready to finds the answers to the many questions you have; Is it worth a watch? What is Sanam Re all about? What is the movie's strength and weakness? View Photos Director: Divya Ghosla Kumar Cast: Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam, Urvashi Rautela, Rishi Kapoor, Bharti Singh Sanam Re Plot: Sanam Re is a breezy rom-com film. The story initially revolves around the two little characters, Aakash (Pulkit Samrat) and Shruti (Yami Gautam) and their innocent teen-age love story unaware of the fact that if there is love, there will surely be conflict. To do big in his career, Pulkit decides to move to big town and couldn't stop himself from falling head over heels with a girl named Akansha. As expected, his past small town memories keep haunting him and then Aakash realizes that with Akansha it's just an infatuation and his destiny bring him in front of his childhood love Shruti. To know whether Shruti accepts Aakash's love after the betrayal or both will get their true love or not, you have to watch the film. The music is already a rage with Sanam Re and Gajab Ka Hai Ye Din topping the charts. Divya totally deserves kudos for doing a decent job of using these tracks to their maximum benefit. Cinematographer of the film, Sameer Arya has done an amazing song by capturing the breathtaking beauty of Shimla and Canada throughout the film. Yami Gautam's innocent look in the film, will surely make you adore her more after watching the film. Sadly, even after flaunting muscled body Pulkit's thunder will be stolen by hot Urvashi Rautela, who we cannot take our eyes off. This damsel really knows how to set the screens on fire with her hot bikini look and passionate romantic sequences in the film. Keep watching this space, to know about the detailed review including performance, technicalities and ratings of the film, Sanam Re.

Sanam Re' dwells on soulmates and love
Get set to be swept off your feet with Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam's love story

Long before the online dating/hook-up app Tinder became a way of life, many believed in first love and soulmates. But if you have forgotten about the possibility of finding The One', then Bollywood drama Sanam Re will help you refresh that memory.

"Sanam Re is an emotional love story between Aakash and Shruti. It's about finding soulmates in life and how it's all pre-destined. This film will answer questions about finding love and happiness with that one person," said Divya Khosla Kumar, the director of Sanam Re.

Starring a clutch of relatively new actors, including Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela, the romantic drama, which opens ahead of Valentine's Day in the UAE, is an ode to young, innocent love. Samrat, who plays Aakash, is shown as a city-slick boy who's busy working, with no time for relationships or love. But there's a twist in his life and it brings him back to his old village, stuck in time. To sum up the soul of this romance, a line in the film says: "in the hustle and bustle of the city, we have forgotten to listen to our heartbeats".

"Sanam Re shows Aakash and Shruti's love and conflict in various phases of their life " from childhood, teenage [years], the current day and then their old age. It shows how destiny plays a part in getting these two together. After watching Sanam Re, you may start believing that it's easy to find a soulmate if you try hard enough," said Samrat. While playing Aakash came easy to him, romancing on the big screen wasn't all song and dance.

"Physically, this role was very challenging. We were shooting at locations when there's less oxygen and sub-zero temperatures. I had to take my shirt off at the freezing Pangong Tso lake in Leh Ladakh. It wasn't easy," said Samrat, who has earlier acted in Fukrey and Dolli Ki Doli. While he was appreciated for his roles, his personal life, has come under the scanner. The actor recently filed for divorce from his wife Shweta Rohira. Does it bother him that his failed marriage is discussed more than his work?

"I just work and I don't bother to read those reports on my personal life. For me, work is important and nothing can overshadow it," said Samrat, who is also rumoured to be dating his Sanam Re co-star Yami Gautam. But neither star lets such rumours affect their work. While Samrat, who counts Dileep Kumar's Mughal-e-Azam as the greatest Bollywood romance, believes love is an underrated emotion in today's times, Gautam is now a believer in soulmates.

"Love is the purest form of emotion. If you are scheming or with a person because he owns a car, home ... then you are with him for practical reasons and that's not love. True love is innocent and we have tried to show that in Sanam Re," said Gautam.

Incidentally, Gautam is the quintessential late-bloomer.

"Back in school, I was a book worm. While my classmates celebrated Valentine's Day, I was busy completing notes and studies," said Gautam, who made her Bollywood debut with the blockbuster Vicky Donor.

The actress believes that there are enough twists in Sanam Re to keep viewers hooked.

The narrative of Sanam Re is non-linear and shows its actors flashing back to childhood and young adulthood.

"After Aashiqui 2, a pure love story has yet to be released. I have treated Sanam Re in a poetic manner. It's soulful. It will remind all those living in a fast-paced metropolis that a promotion at work will not give you happiness, if you don't stop to listen to your heart," said Kumar, who earlier directed Yaariyaan. The wife of T-series music label honcho Bhushan Kumar may have Bollywood A-listers on speed-dial, but she believes that a strong script is more important than hiring actors with strong star power.

"I am fearless. The script should define what kind of actors should be cast. It should never be the other way round ... And as a woman, I wanted to carve my own identity as a director," said Kumar. But haven't films about finding soulmates in Bollywood been rolled out before?

"Sanam Re is different because it's sensitive and highly emotional. I agree there have been Yash Chopra's iconic romances, but I have made an effort to make a small, innocent love story that will appeal to all," said Kumar.

Don't miss it!

Sanam Re releases in the UAE cinemas on February 11.

Box Office Prediction: Fitoor & Sanam Re To Have Head To Head Start

Two love stories release in this weekend of Valentine's Day - Fitoor and Sanam Re. Former has Katrina Kaif as the star element with Aditya Roy Kapur coming in a romantic affair after Aashiqui 2. The film is directed by Abhishek Kapoor who has two good successes behind him - Rock On and Kai Po Che! Now Fitoor is an altogether different genre for him as this is his first love story. With UTV backing it, the film has everything going for it. The music is very good too, though in a classy zone as none of the tracks has become a massy chartbuster.

On the other hand Sanam Re has a hit director, Divya Khosla Kumar, backing the show after Yaariyaan. Though the cast [Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam, Urvashi Rautela] doesn't have bumper hits behind them, the pairing is fresh. What is working in the favor of the film big time is the music and the visuals. Considering the fact that the film is backed by T-Series, these factors are a given, as seen in majority of their productions so far. Moreover, the film is looking like a quintessential romantic entertainer.

Box Office - Fitoor and Sanam Re to have head to head start

All of this means that both films would see almost similar numbers coming on the opening day. There may be a gap of 1-2 crore, but that's about it. Normally, a film with Katrina in lead would be termed bigger, but Sanam Re has managed to bridge the distance due to chartbuster music and eye pleasing visuals.

Of course, eventually it would be the content that would do the talking, though for now the opening of Fitoor as well as Sanam Re would be on similar lines. Expect both films to open in 30%-40% range and then grow basis word of mouth. What is working in favor of these films is their timing though, since Valentine's Day is the season of love and youngsters are expected to keep the footfalls on during weekdays too.

Sanam Re Movie Poster

Rating: 1.5/5 Stars (One and half stars)

Star Cast: Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam, Urvashi Rautela, Rishi Kapoor

Director: Divya Khosla Kumar

What's Good: Probably the only thing decent about Sanam Re is its music and its cinematography across locations.

What's Bad: One of the silliest scripts ever. The premise of Sanam Re itself is weak and filled with loopholes that even a kid can make out.

Loo Break: The entire second half!

Watch or Not?: Not! This is a film that you would want to miss even on the Television let alone theaters.

Aakash hails from Tanakpur, a small town that has now been abandoned by most youngsters in search of their future. In a bustling city like Mumbai, Aakash is struggling with his job and an irritating boss. Back home, his Daadu (Rishi Kapoor) is now suffering from Alzheimers. Once a famous photographer in town, Daadu is now too old to run his shop and hence Aakash is called upon by his parents for the final settlement of the property.

As Aakash visits his hometown after years, nostalgia takes over. He is reminded of his first love Shruti (Yami Gautam). The childhood sweethearts get separated when Aakash chooses to move to the city for his future over his love.

Due to an office emergency, Aakash leaves for Canada where he has to woo Mrs. Pablo (Urvashi Rautela) for his promotion. His plans go haywire when he meets his long lost love Shruti at the camp.

Will Shruti forgive him and patch up with Aakash?

Sanam Re Review: Script Analysis

Sanam Re is so predictable and done to death that it becomes a yawn fest in the first half itself. It takes off with a party song featuring the director herself. Later we are introduced to a string of unnecessary characters like Aakash's stupid boss who cracks repetitive jokes which are not even funny. Interestingly, Aakash's character has enough money to own a sedan and travel to and fro from Canada but none for his rent. The script is written so amateurishly that Aakash's phone has his Boss' name as Boss' on it. What world is this?

His Daddu on the other hand is seen giving life lessons on love. If he had taught him to be professional and competent enough, Aakash would't have to woo a lady to get his contract. That's what happens when impressionable minds are served with fairytales.

There are so many loopholes in this story that I would have to sit with a checklist. Like, tell me one person who had to decide his future in one hour. Aakash's uncle does some jugaad' and gets him admission in a city college but he has to take the decision of taking the opportunity in an hour. What sort of a jugaad is that?

Urvashi Rautela's character is the stupidest. She is a divorcee who falls in love with a guy who is trying to use her for her business and is in love with someone else. Couldn't they have shown her to be a powerful b*tch who now owns her ex-husband's business? Please stop showing why a woman's life has no goals if there is no man with her.

There is a big twist in the second half and honestly, you will see it if you can actually sit through till then. And if you do sit through it, you would want to leave after the big secret is out.

Sanam Re Review: Star Performance

Pulkit Samrat does an average job in the film. I don't blame him, when the script itself is so weak, there is little you can do about it.

Yami Gautam has recently been signed for a solo role opposite Hrithik Roshan and she better pull up her socks. Her performance in Sanam Re is weak.

Urvashi Rautela does not really have role in the film where she needs to act. She is like a showpiece in this film and is seen flaunting her assets in most scenes.

Rishi Kapoor does a little bit of over-acting in his special appearance as Daadu.

Sanam Re Review: Music, Direction

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from Sanam Re considering it comes from the same director as Yaariyaan. It is a pity that such scripts get such huge production costs while non-commercial films with solid material have to beg for financial backing. Divya Khosla Kumar tries hard to present Sanam Re as an intense romantic drama but it turns out to be a tense drama for the audiences. The locations of Leh, Himachal and Canada make up for a great viewing but the story doesn't. The first half itself is cringeworthy and it is tough not to fall asleep. Probably the inclusion of song every now and then is to wake up those who have dozed off. The music of Sanam Re has been appreciated by quite a few and that's probably a savior for them.

It is a shame that Divya finds it important for her leading ladies to show skin in spite of them being in minus temperatures. In a chilly Canada, her ladies strut in Bikinis because it is important for their characters to be at least physically appealing if not otherwise.

Even though the film's run-time is around 2 hours, it feels like we are sitting there forever watching indecisive people chase other across towns in the name of love.

Sanam Re Review: The Last Word

Sanam Re is a yawn-fest from the start. Kudos to you if you survive the entire film. I cannot rate this film more than a 1.5/5!

Sanam Re's Day 1 (1st Friday) Occupancy Report | Box Office

Sanam Re starring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela in lead roles opened to a low occupancy of around 15% for the morning shows. The film has released alongside Fitoor starring Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur. Sanam Re managed to open decently in other circuits beyond metros.

The film's main selling point is its popular music, just like Divya Khosla Kumar's last film, Yaariyaan. Also the target audience being the youth, the film has a good chance to earn moolah, what with Valentine's day just around the corner.

Pulkit Samrat in a still from Sanam Re'

Sanam Re will have to stack up on a positive word of mouth to fare extremely well over the weekend. The screen count being approximately 2000, it has high chances of beating Fitoor which seems to be more of a niche film.

An opening of approximately 6-6.5 crores is expected if the film continues to show a rise by the evening shows.

m.rediff.com/movies/report/review-sanam-re-is-utterly-stupid/20160212.htm
Sanam Re is a moronic film, feels Sukanya Verma.
It's one thing to indulge a restless tyke who's wrecked the bedroom walls with a box of crayons and regard his mess as masterpiece. But to witness an adult with zero flair for filmmaking land opportunities while genuine talent struggles to see the light of the day is as frustrating as it is mind-boggling.
Sanam Re, director Divya Khosla Kumar's moronic second film, produced by T-Series boss and better half, Bhushan Kumar is packaged like a postcard romance high on sweepi
ng ballads and snow laden vistas.
What it really is a series of shabby, senseless music videos sounding off monotonous melody that believes in love at first sight between preteens because grandpa forecasted so and paints romance as wooden actors caught in an endless snowstorm.
Although the predominantly hill-station scenery of Sanam Re is set in present and flashbacks only as far as the 1980s, Himachal resembles an ornamental, overdone European village inhabited by people stuck in some sort of time warp.
While the Kalpa bits hold true, part of its confused geography expects us to believe Canada's majestic railway stations and Leh's aquamarine lakes have miraculously shifted to HP.
And so men in kilts launch into an unexpected parade outside Rishi Kapoor's photo studio called Johnson & Johnson (who despite being neither, dresses up like one from the 1920s) along side his knee-high grandson who grows up to be Pulkit Samrat.
Ostensibly, there are only two more kids in his fanciful neighbourhood -- they grow up to be Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela.
As if one drab love story wasn't tedious enough, Khosla Kumar concocts a phony triangle around a Canadian yoga camp where we are subjected to bizarre concepts (cuddle therapy) and inadvertently hilarious pickup lines (Jab tumhare haath mere haath mein aata hain toh mujhe pata nahi chalta kaunsa mera hai aur kaunsa tumhara).
Worse, it offensively presumes that the audience will break into splits at its homophobic, racist gags or Manoj Joshi mispronouncing (and misquoting) Shakespeare. There's also stand-up comedian Bharti Singh as a new-age lifestyle guru at the afore-mentioned camp mouthing humour so vile even her straight face can't conceal.
In this schizophrenic rubbish -- for it's certainly not a script, hardly a synopsis -- landscapes change faster than its cast's wardrobe and characters suddenly appear or mysteriously vanish at the director's whim.
Divya Khosla Kumar even shows up in front of the camera, early on in an item song, vacuously gazing in and out of a medium she's clearly struck by but just doesn't get.
