heartthrob, Pearl V Puri is currently seen playing the role of a modern small-town guy, Sattu, in Zee TV's 'Meri Saasu Maa'. In an interview with TV Times, the actor reveals the secret behind his name Pearl and what he thinks about marriage.

Were you disappointed with the closure of 'Badtameez Dil'?

Yes, I was disappointed in the beginning. But I feel life is full of ups and downs. When you are an actor, these things will happen, but they shouldn't bog you down. I am an actor and my job is to work hard. I make sure I entertain my fans who love me for the characters I play and for who I am. Earlier, they loved me as Abeer and now, I hope they will shower same admiration for Sattu.

You became extremely popular with your first show as Abeer and now you are seen in an absolutely different avatar as Sattu in 'Meri Saasu Maa'. What made you take up this show?

I had to prepare myself mentally to take up 'Meri Saasu Maa'. My character of Sattu is lovable and emotional. He is religious and believes in God. My look is very different from my previous show and I will be seen donning dhoti and kurtas. I like taking up challenges. Hence, this project attracted me.

Tell us more about the look of Sattu?

The character of Sattu is a contemporary man from Lucknow. I wear a dhoti and if you ask me, dhoti is quite cool and I like wearing it. I also wear a bracelet, rudraksh and a Kada. All of this makes me look cool yet religious.

Do you enjoy working with Asmita Sood more or Hiba Nawab?

I have just started working with Hiba but she is a very nice girl. I am blessed to have a good cast. The cast of my previous show was like family and this show's cast and crew are also very supportive.

Did you always wish to become an actor?

Yes, I always wanted to become an actor. After my 12th grade, I started my journey in the entertainment industry. Later, my family became apprehensive of my career choice and wanted me to get into our family business, so I left my hometown, Agra and came to Mumbai. With a show like 'Meri Saasu Maa', I feel more settled today. Like all actors, I have had my share of pain and struggle. Initially, I used to spend money lavishly but now I have realized its value.

Do you believe in the institution of marriage?

Yes, I do believe in it but I am very scared of marriage. I am scared of marriage in the same way as people get scared of ghosts, even when they have not seen them. When I think I am capable enough to take care of my wife, I will get married.

What is the story behind your name Pearl?

Well, frankly speaking my name Pearl is given by my mom, as she loved the name. She always thought she would name her kid Pearl which I think is really uncommon.

Any aspiration to enter Bollywood?

Yes, I do wish to enter Bollywood someday, but it'll happen when it has to

Any passion other than acting?

I love music. I have been singing and composing music since childhood. If someone happens to see my room anytime they will spot a lot of speakers, since I enjoy listening to all types of music from western classical to Romanian and Spanish.
