Ok so I have heard a lot about Shiva being the easiest God to impress. They say there is no vidhaan of Shiv pooja. You can impress Him with a bail patra only. Can anyone tell me if there is some particular procedure to be followed while worshipping lord Shiva? I mean I for one started fasting on Mondays bit I didn't ask any pandits so I just want to know if there is something I need to follow? I want to make sure I don't do anything wrong.

Do you want the procedure for a proper pooja ?
What is that u want ?
Can u tell me something more about yourself - how much time you will be able to allocate for puja/ Do u want to do it on a daily basis or weekly ?
I will be able to guide you better.

firstly I want to know if there is some particular procedure to be followed. If yes, I want to know the whole procedure. You tell me if I have to follow it on daily basis or on Mondays only?? What procedure to be followed on daily basis and what else can I do on Mondays when I am fasting?
Thanks for replying.

There are three approaches which I can recommend to you. You can choose which ever suits you. Please read patiently till the end.

ONE
One is the vidhita pooja- which has more rules (but not complicated, though) and is more rigid. The following procedures are involved -
1) First do achamanayeem (sipping water thrice)
2) Sankalpa (The actual words and procedure for these you can get anywhere...)
3)Vigneshwara puja
4) Sankalpa again
5) Some minor procedures like ghanta puja / kalasha puja/ anga puja
6) Abhisheka (the complexity is left to you- you can do wit just water or water + milk etc)
7) Chant any shiva ashtotara shata namavali (108 names ) -or if you have time Shiva Sahasranama (1000 names) but Saasranama will take more time
7) Conclude with dhoop / deeepa / naivediya / neerajanam
If your yagnopavita samskara has been done, then you should perform your sandhyavandna before the puja. Can I know if you are a male or female?
TWO
If the above procedure seems too complicated and difficult to follow regularly you can just chant slokas
1)Begin with any small ganesh sloka
2) Chant any good /time tested slokas like Dakshinamoorty Stotram / Kashi Vishwantha Ashtakam/ Sata Ruudriya/ Shiva Mahimna Sotra etc etc
3) Offer some small neivediya at the end
Important thing is to be regular and chant the same sloka /slokas everyday
THREE
You can get initiated into the shiva panchaksari mantra from a reliable guru and follow instructions for its japa
Hope this helps.

^^thanks a lot. I am a female. I have been fasting on Mondays for almost two years now but somehow got this doubt in my mind few days back if I am doing it in a proper way and following the vidhaan of pooja. Lingabhishek I do on Mondays only in a temple nearby with water+milk+honey along with bailpatra. And I wanted to know if you have any idea that females can put Chandan on Shivlinga or not??

Thanks a lot for the information. It helped a lot.

Om Namah Shivay, Mahamrityunjaya mantra, Shiv-mahimna stotra, can be chanted while doing Abhishek.
Shivji can be prayed with Shiv manas puja stotra too.
