Aamir's contract with Incredible India campaign has expired, says Mahesh Sharma
After the reports of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan being removed from "Incredible India" campaign started doing the rounds, the Tourism Ministry on Wednesday clarified that the actor is very much a part of the campaign and that there has been no change.
According to the report, the activist had asked the Tourism Ministry whether Aamir Khan was still the ambassador for Incredible India, especially since his comments about rising intolerance in the country.
The Ministry further clarified that at present it had a contractual agreement with creative agency McCann Worldwide to produce social awareness campaign and the said campaign featured Khan.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will no more be promoting India as an attractive tourist destination as McCann, the global advertisement agency, has not renewed his contract. The actor was unapologetic about his comments and defended his statement to the last word.
Aamir Khan had landed into the controversy after he had shared his thoughts over growing intolerance in India and also how his wife sees the situation.
Aamir Khan suddenly became the topic of discussion on Twitter today when Amit Malviya, BJP's IT & Digital Communication in-charge, "Aamir Khan removed as brand ambassador of Incredible #India". India's tourism ministry later said that it had not removed the actor from its popular ad campaign. We have delivered the campaign to the Ministry.
Sharma said the contract for Rs 2.96 crore with McCann Worldwide agency was now over.
Fresh tenders will be floated to device any new campaign, if required. Officials said a report by the ministry's market and research division is already looking at picking faces that could lead the campaign.
'Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview'. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? She feels scared to open the newspapers every day.
