Do YouTube views even mean anything?

I mean honestly, just check Indicine and they've got a story on their front page about how the Hate Story 3 trailer has crossed 20 million views, and will eventually beat Krrish 3 to become the most watched Hindi trailer of all time. PRDP trailer has 18.5 M views and Dilwale trailer has 12 M views.

Does this mean Hate Story 3 will be a bigger hit than PRDP, Krrish 3 and Dilwale? 😆😆

I see so much hype about YouTube views and numerous trends by fan clubs on Twitter about so and so trailer being the fastest to cross these many million views...until and unless audiences love the trailer, AND the trailer is what engages them to buy the ticket and go, then the # of views on the trailer is pretty much a meaningless comparison.

I mean many people click to watch a YT video (in this case based on the thumbnail) or the name associated with it ...whether they actually liked the video or not is decided by the person AFTER the view right.

Depends on the film's star and genre. For less popular stars and not very BO friendly genre YT views help as that means there is awareness among the audience about the film. But having said this YT views can be jacked up. Tseries and Honey Singh do it on a regular basis for their videos.

I don't think Hate Story 3 trailer has anything to do with "awareness" for the film...it is a pull for the tharkis and hence the views. 😆

Kalyug hai, Ghor kalyug! 😆

OT: YT views can be manipulated by fans, they can just do repeat for hours to make views go up.
Trailer can be good or bad, fate of a movie is decided by other factors, not trailer or its views.

In the grand scheme of things no they really don't matter. So many trailers have had great responses and high number of views and still don't go on to do well. Eventually boils down to the merit of the film.

Constant views on YouTube is a source of income for the producers or the channel owners. So in a way it does helps the movie.

Yes, means a lot to starlets with three back to back flops. Unke ghar mein roti ki supply chalu rehti hai views se. Chittiyaan kalaiyaan re, O Baby, teri phailate paiyaan re.
