I am not a feminist, says Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra, the brand ambassador for Haryana's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padao' campaign, says she is not a "feminist" but strongly voices for gender equality.

Coming into Bollywood, I think definitely it has made me stronger and more responsible."

Actress Parineeti Chopra, the brand ambassador for Haryana's Beti Bachao Beti Padao' campaign, says she is not a "feminist" but strongly voices for gender equality.

The 26-year-old actress said she would like to be seen as a role model rather than a "feminist".

When asked if her understanding on women issues developed more after joining films, she said, "I am very often confused to be a feminist but I am not. I am really not. Coming into Bollywood, I think definitely it has made me stronger and more responsible.

"I do feel proud of my gender, of being a woman. I do speak against gender inequality. I am the brand ambassador for Haryana's Beti Bachao Beti Padao' campaign. And I think it is very important for me personally to strive for equality, especially the industry that I come from," said the actress, who was in the city today.

The "Ishaqzaade" star feels her entry in Bollywood has reaffirmed her belief in gender equality and that there is a need in the society to fill gaps of inequality among men and women.

"Now, I understand and accept that anything that I do, could and I hope should inspire young girls. Now, I am very particular about what I say or do. If that makes me half a feminist, then that's okay. I want girls to be treated the way men are. Somewhere we lack that in our country. So, I do want to be a role model but not a feminist," she added.

Feminism started as a movement for equality but it has degenerated to a movement of seeing all men as enemies.
I also do not identify with 21st century feminism movement that has become a more militia one of attacking men rather than fighting for equal opportunities

^ i disagree with you. where do you see feminists attacking men? if men and women were treated equally, there would be no need for the word feminist or feminism. feminism as i see it is still for equality. the reason you might see it as "seeing men as enemies" may be because women are not treated as equals by men in many respects, so women have to "fight" for equality. i am just wondering, do you suggest women just sit idle and not fight for equality rather than be scared that they might appear to be against men. the truth is that women have been treated as the inferior gender for most of recent history especially in india. but the funny thing is she says she is not a feminist but then she says she fights for equality which is the definition of feminism. and again i would love to see these feminists who see men as the enemy.

First time I like Parineeti. Why call it feminism if it's about gender equality?

PC also gave one such IV..cant remember which one exactly. But she was slammed for saying she isn't a feminist but she support gender equality.
I think since feminism itself has many roots. They may not even be part of feminism as per se. But those females call themselves as such. Some of them want to overthrow men position in the society.. Some want equality..

So to stay tangle-free most celebs say they are not feminist to clear the whole stigma associated with it and say about gender equality.

For me it's better to stay away from that.. Esp when the word itself is so sexist. So pari go for it girl!! 😃

I agree with Parineeti and there's nothing stupid with what she said. Today's feminism teaches women to see themselves as victim and men are pervert, bullies and misogynists..

Parineeti is rather dumb, never liked this girl, dont know whats so special abt her. 🄱

And what she says abt herself is defining feminism yet shes denying shes a feminist. How asinine! Historically speaking, feminism is the female struggle for equality. Thanks to that struggle, some modern women can now work, drive, vote, make their own life decisions, live life independantly if they choose.

But there are still millions of women who are abused, killed, molested, exploited everyday. Now the struggle is theirs and on their behalf.
Some women of today feel ashamed to call themselves feminists but then they deny their own gender's evolution thanks to the feminist movement. They forget how life was for their female ancestors in the 1900s. No education, get married at 14, have 10-12 kids and never know what it is like to live freely.
