^ Well said. As for the statement about getting married at 14 and having numerous children, I suspect it still happens in many places. Like certain districts in Rajasthan, for instance, and Dharmapuri district in my state, Tamil Nadu.
Does she even know what feminism means? It just means that one's gender shouldn't come in the way of one's empowerment, and that the restrictions placed by gender should be done away with.I do agree that some waves of feminism have been off the mark and gone to a different tangent altogether (radical feminism for instance). But ultimately, it all boils down to one thing- that an individual's gender should in no way cause a hindrance to their overall development and not discriminate against them in any way. Many women are ashamed to confess that they're feminists. Fair enough. 🥱But I, for one, am not an ingrate. I remember every contribution, every sacrifice made. Every act of rebellion that was done so that we could do the same things that only men were entitled to- like the right to vote, for instance, that was granted by the suffragette movements in the 19th and 20th centuries.Of course, India didn't have to experience that because our founding fathers granted us the right to vote from the get go. I suspect that they too, were feminists😃 It is sad, some men are more enlightened about the challenges that all women collectively face, than some women who are blind to the varied experiences of womenfolk.

Everywhere in India...read the news. There is still female foeticide and infanticide, women are treated as inferior from birth, they dont get equal opportunities in education and jobs, most of them are not allowed to get higher education or get jobs, are married off by the time they are 16 or 18, get harassed and tortured for dowry, get treated like chattels...all this still goes on in small towns, villages, and even in so called educated families in cities sometimes.

Even in towns and cities, people can be quite backward. Many couples keep on having kids till a boy is born. And usually the woman and not the man is blamed when she gives birth to a daughter instead of a son, which is ignorant considering how biology works. When a woman is working before marriage, she is often expected to quit working if her future in-laws demand it. I know a successful entrepreneur who was made to shut down her boutique because potential grooms did not want such an independent woman and her parents were desperate to marry her off.
