Hello my dear fellow IF ians, Have been thinking
about this for a while now and after going through
the updates of serials where women get abused
both mentally and physically, I am not able to
contain myself. I am convinced that the channels need
to know our feelings/sentiments regarding the portrayal
of women in such bad light - dumb, door mat, sathi Savithris ,
stone age women, losers etc., etc., to name a few - I know
that most of you share my anger and agony. Let us put our
hands together and send out a letter to the channels/sponsors/
directors/story writers and all the rest who are responsible
for sending out such negative signals - Pls do participate and
write your views/suggestions. Finally, we can arrive at a concise
report and reach it to the people who matter and who can bring
in changes. Shoot guys and gals, I am all ears!!!!!!

I will do anything to get Ekta and her brand of people banned forever from Tamil TV channels. Count me in. In fact, I am prepared to write to each and every sponsor telling them not to sponsor a program which is so demeaning to women. I can even write by hand if necessary.

i am with u roja akka.

first will be anjali serial most demeaning serial of all.

they made anjali suddenly a sati savithri & the torture done to her by ashok will definitely give psycho's more ideas.

& we have a rape scene in store according to the titles enough is enough. 😡

I am with you too guys....High time we did something to put a stop to the senseless way in which women are portrayed in all the serials.
We should convince the sponsors to start portraying women as independent, smart, hard working, caring, well dressed, conscious about caring for our environment, achievers, not petty-minded(always thinking about revenge) etc.
Also I like the sitcom Vettukku Veedu Looty...simple funny situations in everyday life...Hope there are more serials like that.

OKKKK I am glad to see like minded women
here - here we go. If you were to write to
some one about this - Tamil serials in general
or any one in particular - how would u go about it?
We must make sure to address this to some one
who is responsible for making/telecasting. Pls.
go ahead and write. we shall read thro' all posts
and compile a concise report. We will take it from
there, what say??

Parang in English is a sharp knife. I might equate it
with " kathir aruvaal" of Tamil - the one which is used
to harvest grains - that is supposed to be real sharp
and cut a bunch with ease.

Roja,

Count me in too. Lately in some of the serials, towards the end, it is advertised that if you have opinion, you could send it to such a such address. Maybe we could try that. Sorry, it is written in tamil and I don't know how to read. 😳

To be frank Roja, I frankly hate the way women are potrayed and demeaned in all the serials, except if I may say so in Anandham. The worst is Kasturi followed by Kolangal and Anjali. Hence, I don't watch Kasturi at all whilst Kolangal and Anjali I watch if I am bored. I always tell my mum off for watching Kasturi.

But in reality, this abuse does take place in our society, be it in Asia or be it in the West. There are women who are afraid to come out of the closet for fear and also pride. It is not easy to admit that she has been abused. Be she be an educated lady or not.

Hence, my suggestion is, since lot of people emaluate their favourite stars or movie, we can ask the director to give a solution to each abuse. For e.g. where to go if there is an abuse. What to do if there is an abuse? Things like that. End of the day, it is a solution we need to look into. If we ask the directors to put a stop to all this, it doesn't mean that in real life abuses like this will stop.

In Anjali, I glimpsed a part where Ashok made that B@$t@#D (sorry guys), but I still feel sick watching the assistant to slap Anjali. I almost puked about that. Seriously. I took my papers and walked away. But by walking away, does not mean that will be solved. Suddenly showing Anjali is obedient daughter who is keeping her mum's word and get herself into this mess is a no no.

Then they should not show the abuse for a long period of time. i.e. like 10 mins. Should cut short.

Having children holding gun - does happen in US. Don't be surprised if this happens in India/Malaysia soon. Again there should be some kind of message appear on t.v.

I remember seeing in a movie/serial, the guys were drinking and a message came out - drinking is bad for you. I want other directors to follow Cheyar Ravi's example when he gave messages across in Anandham. Don't slap your wife no matter how angry you are, stop the car if you want to speak on the phone, respect other people's privacy, etc.

I don't about you guys, but this is my thoughts.

i have never noticed it caryn...

that is very true....but then instead of portraying what has happened and then moving on life...the heroines in the tamil serials seem to be accepting all the nauseating treatment meted out to them as if it their "lot" in life!!!

Hence, my suggestion is, since lot of people emaluate their favourite stars or movie, we can ask the director to give a solution to each abuse. For e.g. where to go if there is an abuse. i agree with the fact if the director puts and end to this, the abuse will stop. and i also agree with you that the directors should make the woman in the serial seek a solution and find a victory in it. she cannot keep weeping over it and accept defeat or scream "why me"...i find that awful too...when they say why me...it is almost as if..it is okay if it was someone else....😡😡😡

so if the directors show abuse they should show a positive solution for that too...and not after 400 more episodes!!!!

10 minutes is too long a time caryn...after that they keep showing it again and again in the flash back scenes as well....and it goes on for months!!!

Having children holding gun - does happen in US. Don't be surprised if this happens in India/Malaysia soon. Again there should be some kind of message appear on t.v.

a message on tv may not help much. but like you suggested earlier, if the director when showing a problem also shows how the person sorts it out and as early as possible, and bring the criminal to book...maybe that will project a more positive outlook for the younsters who draw their ideas from these serials!!!

i agree with you whole heartedly here....

and absolutely admirable thoughts they are caryn!!👏👏
