Kangana Ranaut: As women we don't have to hope to get our due, we have to get up and get it ourselves
Kangana attended the Women in The World event in London recently
Kangana Ranaut was the only Indian actress to attend the London's Women in The World event along with renowned names like Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Cara Delevigne and more influential women from across the globe! Kangana Ranaut sat down with BBC news reporter Shabnam Mahmood to talk about her struggles being a girl from a humble background trying to make it big in showbiz by defying convention and going against her family.
At the event Kangana talks about how she was a rebel as a child and ended up running away from home to make a career in Bollywood. It was not an easy ride as she ended up sleeping on pavements but she still did not "learn the lesson" as her father would want her to. She went on to work hard and pave her way to success. Her sister Rangoli has been an acid attack victim but Kangana has stood by her through thick and thin.
An important message Kangana delivers while talking about gender-discrimination, sexism and patriarchy is that women should stop seeking other people's approval or caring about what the society expects them to be. She says that she never does films for anybody's approval as people's opinion of her always shifts and keeps changing. She says ,"you got to be confident" and "as women we can't hope to get our due. We need to get up and get it ourselves!"
