October 2nd Proving Unlucky Holiday
Thursday 08 October 2015 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

The October 2nd holiday is one of the major release dates but it is proving to be unlucky as all major releases on this date are not performing as they should be. Talvar may turn out be one of the rare winners which have tried to take benefit of this holiday but this is not a big film.Bang Bang released last year which was a under performer is also one of better releases on this day.

The last major winner which was released on this holiday, we have to go years back to 1998 when the Salman Khan starrer Bandhan scored all over India. Since then its been mediocre success at best with Talvar looking to change if it keeps on going for the next few weeks but expected winners have not done much. Below is a list of films released on this date in the past few years.

2015

Singh Is Bling - Poor Trend

Talvar - Going Well

2014 (Not just one holiday but five in a row)

Bang Bang - Decent but under performer

Haider - Mediocre (Lucky that actor and director were on profit sharing so big losses were avoided)

2013

Besharam - Poor

2012

No Release (OMG - Oh My God released a week earlier)

2011

No Release

2010

Anjaana Anjaani - Mediocre

2009

Do Knot Disturb - Poor

Wake Up Sid - Mediocre (Saved due to low costs)

Rangoon.

Shahid - Saif's Rangoon will release on 2nd Oct 2016 - Vishal Bhardwaj

October 7, 2015 0

Saif Ali Khan - Kangana Ranaut - Shahid Kapoor's much anticipated film Rangoon will release on 2nd October 2016 confirms the movie director Vishal Bhardwaj.

Vishal Bhardwaj, who wrote the script of Meghna Gulzar's critically acclaimed film Talvar is now gearing up for the shooting of his next directorial, Rangoon. In an interview with us, when he was asked if Rangoon will release on 2nd October next year just like his two releases Haider and Talvar, the director smiled and said,

"Inshallah"

Well though a one word answer, the director made his intention quite clear. Rangoon goes on floor in November this year at Arunachal Pradesh and the shooting will be wrapped up by March next year. The much anticipated film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan in main lead. The film is set in the world war 2 era.

Note - Next year, 2nd Oct is Sunday. So Hopefully the makers will be targeting the 30th September 2016 Release Date which is a normal Friday Release

How about blame the movies for being so badly made? On a holiday, a crappy movie like SIB can make 20 cr. if it released on October 9 or another date it wouldn't have even reached 15 cr.

producers think they can sell any shit by releasing on holidays..not happening. You sell crap, will trend badly no matter how big the movie..SIB, Bang Bang, Happy New Year all trended poorly and were major underperformers
real winners are movies like talvaar, queen kahani which trend well due to their content

If a movie is good and has gripping story then it will work on any day. But if a movie doesnt have that thing then it will not score on big holidays also. Example is given by BOI.
