In this episode , I sensed people speaking up, projecting one's self, letting one's opinion known, standing up and being counted and still being two faced.. one sees clarifications ,misconceptions and assumptions and use of puns to show subtle truths but at other places intentions are made known clearly
On the one hand Tania strengthens the two strong pillars of her in laws home, namely her future mil Kanak and the patriarchal figure head dashrant who stands not alone in his home, but powerful in the community at large. It's natural she will find herself elevated by the keen interest given to her by the twobig guns of Viplav'sfamily. However on the other hand with great conviction Tania rejects Dulari's idea of widows seen as inauspicious. She upholds the bond of friendship between her and Dulari's daughter Dhani.. friendship is seen as such a noble bond that blessed are those who have sincere friends, especially those who help in dire straits are the ones who can be classified as true comrades.. Dhani is promoted as such a friend who would grant Tania's wish.. namely to embellish her red engagement chunari with her dexterous handiwork in the field of ornate embroidery . Remuneration is offered for the labour , but Dhani too rejects it in return for all the support that Tania has bestowed upon the widows. This scene corresponds with the accident scene where the poor wayside potter refuses compensation offered by Viplav for the damage caused to the potters goods.. the potter too had the same spirit of humbled gratitude before the rich class as does Dhani on behalf of the poor vulnerable widows. In fact it's like letting the rich off the hook for their actions. Dhani graciously bestows her labour as the labour of love a gift from her and the widows for Tania.. But the rich prefer the upper hand in situations especially when dealing with the less fortunate . Tania invites all the widows to her engagement. They dither due to their inauspicious reputation which gives Tania yet another and final act of kind inclusion of the widows to the occasion.. and presses the address of the venue to Dhani which Rajlaxmi grabbed..
Tania faces her reflection in the mirror surrounded by expensive pieces of jewellery presumably gifted to her by her mother in law. These were pieces of ornaments which she will use to attractive Viplav whom she silently confesses to her self, she loved since they were in college.. the moment has arrived.. the correct time has come to share with Viplav what she feels for him. Although she knows full well that he too feels the same way about her but refuses to tell her curtailed by his shyness.. This is worrying as Tania nurtures a misconception grossly. Is Tania aware of his disinterest but wants him anyway? but as luck would have it she gets a go ahead from his mothers and dada ji. She has nothing to lose gave nothing except to guard secret and she ends of a winner! Her valuable prize Viplav Viplav turns up and stares at her from the door way bored with the amount of time women spend in dressing up .. he looks bemused at Tania and the pains she takes, is like it's her wedding she's getting ready for? the irony here is distasteful as it happens to be true , and he is totally in the dark about it whilst all know . Tania' image of twisting a gold kara on her folded hand conjures up memories of dhani's red glass bangles jostled up in the air and crashing on the floor.. splitting on the floor. Looking Tania's way but Dhani's memory softens his face as he stands in the doorway recalling his protest they are only bangles , I'll get you new ones from the market.. then you can wear new ones... but he didn't.. and he lingered with the iou thought.. Viplav... her voice snaps him out of his day dream.. Tania moves from her reflection towards her reality, Viplav! and coquettishly questions his silent gaping at her from the door way? he laughs it off and snubs her with a pun.. because I am mad! just wafted by, and why would I steal hidden glances at you I see you every day! and she ignores his off- hand manner and asks would he do a task for her? he rebuffs rudely no! till she takes the name that matters to him.. Dhani has my chunari, I am busy would you please collect it for me? Viplav perks up how did it get there at the ashram? Tania reveals Dhani is a fantastic at embroidery so she thought might as well get her to do it.. Viplav , frowns to show some disdain, but he doesn't need much persuasion and easily says says ok.. and turns and leaves Tania flabbergasted as she shows delight at the fact that she has good control over him as he does ,as he's asked to do even before marriage goes to show how much he loves her.. Tania again suffers from misconceptions and misunderstanding
At the ashram dhani completes the finishing stitch.. the red chunari is complete.. Raj lakshimi teases her are you thinking about Viplav babu? The knock confirms his long life.. Raj laxmi opens the door and Dulari exclaims baahiya.. Dhani raises up the chunni stretches it across her face to fold it and Viplav from the door way sees her face totally in love , her eyes looking at him from behind the red sheer embroidered chunari.. which she slowly lowered and showed him her face as if in the mau dekhie ceremony during a wedding when the var and vadhu are shown each other's faces.. after the white cloth is lowered by pujari's.. Both Viplav and Dhani seem in a trance that breaks with Suvarna congratulating him and he assumes it's for shalu's engagement and thus accepts every one 's wishes .Viplav comes in . In this scene it feels viplav's is a groom at his bride's home ,surrounded by his sallies , his bride and of course his mother in law Viplav smiling stands before Dhani who beams too as she offers him her best wishes., and she prays his life is filled with happiness.. he accepts her remark with some surprise and then teases, good at least I got to see a smile on your face! Suvarna tells him to have a look the chunari with Dhani'swork.. Dhani offers him the folded chunari on her palms. With a slanted smile he accepts it with one hand and it's weighty lurches it and Suvarna intervenes and says, let me show it to you and she swirls it over Dhani's head and then yells takea look how does it look? Viplav stares in delight at Dhani with the chunari over her head.. Dhani looks into Viplav's quietly pleased and approving eyes .. worried.. Dulari glares at her daughter and Dhani pulls it off her head. and Viplav is disappointed..when Dulari snatches the chuuni from Dhani and tells Suvarna off doesn't your brain think before you speak! Dulari turns to Viplav , pardon me but put it on the one it's made for! there's no point in growing trees in the sand, they'll end up being thorny.. Dhani looks at him sadly. Viplav turns the situation and lauds dhani and tells her mother..its good to know that your daughter apart from making pots, is also good at this fine craft too ! seeing her talent I have brought a gift for her and says to dhani and may beafter seeing this gift you will forgive all my past mistakes shall I show? ..and he pulls out a garland of grouped of coloured bangles out of a gift bag he holds the string of bangles before her face. waiting for her to accept them.. Dulari is anxious.. and rajlaxmi thinks sadly I wish I had someone bringing me bangles too.. Viplav asks what's happened? and Dulari replies..look bacchiya my daughter cannot accept theses coloured bangles.. in this life the existence of coloured bangles are finished for her.. besides there is no concept of colour in the life of a widow pardon me we cannot accept thus gift of yours .viplav glares at Dhani and looks clearly disappointed and rejected.,. Dulari puts the chunari in the gift bag and passes it to Viplav and he drops the bangles in it as well and gives Dhani a sore rejected look ,bids farewell and leaves..
It's pleasing to see that Tania's mother is at her wit's end to understand why Viplav doesn't know about his engagement.. but Tania's manipulation of her parents surfaces and he discloses to them that it on behest of Viplav's mother and grandad that it's kept a secret till the last moment.. may be her mother senses her daughter could possibly become a puppet in her oddly scheming mother in law?
Like Dhani.. Viplav to me is fast becoming a wronged figure ,this complete engagement ceremony farce , up fronted by shalu's engagement is sad.. he is seen as a bright and intelligent young who is literally forced into a marriage he has neither chosen or conversed about to any one not even his dadi. His engagement is based on the on pretext that the girl, namely Tania is willing to marry Viplav.. her confession that they both love each other is used as a lever to hurl Viplav into marriageby ksnk anf Dashrant . But I suspect consultation is not the culture of his family ,more so in weighing him down with high expectations that he wouldn't let the household down in any shape or form. It was frustrating to see that although shalu nearly gave it away it was his engagement too,but Viplav failed to see. however saysit all when ram is the one who breaks it to him he too will be engaged to Tania.. that makes him wonder as to what was going on.. question is how will Viplav react? Personally I think he will remain silent.. for as a brother it was his responsibility to ensure tathis sisters engagement goes through without high drama..
Dulari finds that her buchiya still hangs on to the broken red bangles.. which Dulari tells her daughter is an hinderance in moving fowward.. why does she still hang on to the broken bangles..? does she wait for someone's return? overall for me an episode that brings about the sham of his engagement.. also significant is his gift to dhani which is desired by other young widows,, but finally rejected by all..
