When 3I released, it was probably the first film that dealt with the drawbacks of education system in India. OMG also largely dealt with the aspect of pseudo-godmen which was again a first (I think?). Rocket Singh had a fresh theme..which focussed on the career path of the protaganist..his company related problems and struggles rather than his love story which is kind of rare. What else?
What are the themes that Hindi films are yet to touch or rarely used?

Nice topic Kaapi😊

1. English vinglish opened doors to the insight mind of a housewife...her desires...her sacrifices...her duties yet she being taken for granted and respect denied...!
The awesome twist where she learns English for herself and astonishes her husband and daughter was way too good...the end speech where they were awestruck was a signal of success for a new identity for her...beautiful film...tight script...!

More such films need to be made which r real and a reflection of the minds of the society...!

2. Wake up Sid...hmmm love the freshness of this movie...😳

The interaction of the extremes reforms an idle mind and makes him responsible and love makes him a man...wow...how well dealt without any masalas...👏

3. Piku...the untouched subject of a father and a daughter...

The father being self obsessed with his health ignores a daughters life but the daughter being tied entire life to taking care of her father's health finds her life a vacuum when he is no more...though the subject was taken by many as a toilet humour or more silly...I liked the way the director told the truth of the insecurities of the aged and how the duties and life of a daughter r ignored for taken for granted...ultimately the father finds peace and a healthy life in his native land when he does what he desires and goes into a happy satisfied slumber...beautifully depicted👏

Mainstream cinema has yet to come up with a film about Gays. They made some B grade kind of film which had no clue how to handle the subject. Some great hollywood movies like Milk, Brokeback Mountain, etc.

I don't think there is any movie about a person's professional life struggle like 'In pursuit of happyness'. I mean the main theme of the movie was how a struggling man changes his life.

Also very few single location films like Dog Day afternoon, Rec, 12 angry men.

There has been no parody films as well. We had couple of them for MTV like Check Dey India but hollywood has so many - Scary Movie, Vampire Movie, etc etc etc

noone has dared to attempt Mahabharat i think.. May be because it has so many characters and it cannot be shortened in 2-3 hours...🤔... i m a big Mytho fan.. would love to see if anyone experiments...
edited- Oh i realise there was one animation movie on that...🤔.. but that was pathetic and lame attempt to say the least..

I liked badmaash company too about businesses/making money
Their Nike shoes idea was hilarious 😆 and of course they have to ruin it with unnecessary songs and love angles :l
but rocketsingh would b my favorite one .. I have lost count of how many times I've watched this movie

Some more movies that I found little hatke -
luck by chance
Khosla ka ghosla
that murabba story in Bombay talkies by anurag
I really want BW to make a sci-fi... U don't even need a super hero for it.. It's all conviction that works .. Like in makhi and mr. India. Loved both of them

Sexual abuse, child sexual abuse issues are rarely depicted. Highway was one. Few others have sub-plots, such as the Monsoon Wedding. But rare.

Mental health or disability issues are rarely a topic of mainstream hindi cinema. Sridevi's Sadma, Anil Kapoor's Eeshwar were some good ones long time ago. However, not many in recent times. There is Kyonki, where Salman is traumatized because of a horrific life event, same with Ghajani. But nothing addressing mental illness or the stigma that comes with it sensitively.

Mainstream full length hindi cinema is yet to address LGBT issues/theme sensitively. It comes in the form of crass humor, such as Dostana. And short films such as Bombay Talkies, KJo's and Zoya's movie about a child discovering his sexuality, are a handful of quality cinema addressing the issue sensitively, but no full length movie on it so far. The content and drama potential is high, but I guess the Indian audience is not ready for it.

Divorce and society's acceptance of it, in urban or middle class society, female or male point of view, is rare. DDD addressed the urban society's perspective to an extent. But it could have been explored more.

Everyday sexism, gender bias, perception of women in society, hasn't really been a focus of any mainstream hindi cinema. DDD again addressed it, making men advocate for feminism, which was applause worthy. But again, it was just a brush.

Lots more really, but these are what I could think about. In all honesty, mainstream Bollywood still has a lot of sensitive issues to explore if they have the guts to do so. But with "slice of life" movies working at the box office, young directors/writers and a palette of good actors in the newer generation willing to take the risk on smaller, sensitive, issue based scripts, I remain hopeful! @RanveerOfficial, #ranveersingh hope he is listening.

Interesting topic, btw.

Their animated movies are really lackluster . Also their super hero movies are not much for story

1. I would love to see if bollywood has the guts to make a film about platonic relationship between guy and girl. I am tired of seeing the falling in love with your best friend trope everywhere..

2. Epic period movies like mahabharata and ramayana. I dont know why despite having the source material and skilled directors in india they havent attempted it yet..

3. More kids in films in general.
