Cut the length and spend it on promotion.

Even the Indian audience r tired of seeing lengthy movies with 5 songs.. ppl can see thr songs on net.. even the movies... but in cinema hall its big yawnnn
What is the point? Gone r the days when ppl used to go to cinema for a song, be practical. 2 hours max.. a b/g song if it helps the movie going forward.. and many more shoes in cinemas..

If u still have lot of money left and ur hands r itching.. spend it on promotions. Simple.

What say?

Nope, BW and songs go hand in hand. If I wanna watch a movie without songs, I can do that with any HW movie.

So nahhh, BW with songs >>>>>>> BW with no songs

I don't see the purpose of songs in BW anymore nor I find they help the story move forward. All songs look promotional.

Gone are the songs of 90s and early 20s when they had a purpose. Emotions. Drama. I don't get em now ... Maybe they should stick with couple promotional songs ... But yeah I don't get the point. Movies are just unnecessarily long.

Songs are what sets BW movies apart from HW movies (among other things) so there is no reason to change that. Yes, there are songs that just come out of nowhere without making any sense and don't help move the story forward so I wouldn't mind if movie makers decided to cut those otherwise I love the dupatta flying, the colors, the energy, the dream sequences and etc. encompassing a BW song :)) I can see your point though. I think a good option would be to cut the number of songs to appease both sides. 3-4 songs max should be enough for any movie unless it's a musical/dance related movie or if the script strongly demands multiple songs.

Like AvadaKedavra mentioned, they can cut down the number and length of songs (put shorter versions in movies and release complete on TV/radio/internet) but Bollywood just can't do away with them totally. My foreigner friends all equate Bollywood with 'lovely songs' and 'colourful clothes' and 'entertaining dance sequences'. It's a trademark really and except for item numbers, directors have mostly started using songs as a part of the narrative. Music adds a lot to the overall impact of the movie and fits in the screenplay quite comfortably.

Music and songs are an integral part of any Bollywood movie so I wouldn't want them to cut down on the songs but yes they could definitely cut down the length and no. Of songs in a movie. They could just put in songs that are actually necessary.
