| The offices of television actor Anuj Saxena (Kkusum's Abhay) were gutted in a fire that raged till the early hours of yesterday.
The blaze engulfed the four-storied Elder House, the premises of his family-owned business, Elder Pharma. Located off Link Road, Andheri (West), several parts of the building were damaged. Short circuit
The blaze began late on Thursday night, and the most likely cause was a short circuit, which engulfed the entire ground floor, charring computers, documents and furniture. The fire brigade was immediately summoned, and took a couple of hours to douse the inferno. Anuj was there
At the time of the fire, only security personnel were present at the venue. Saxena rushed to the site soon after hearing about the incident, and was present throughout the fire-fighting operations. "No comments," he said, when asked about the incident. Heavy damage
Till late Friday, no one was being allowed to enter the premises, as a safety measure.
The ground floor, which bore the brunt of the fire, was covered in soot. The cost of the damage has yet to be ascertained, but will run into an astronomical sum, as the computer system was entirely gutted. Dad in hospital
Unrelated to Friday's fire, Anuj's father, Jagdish Saxena, is currently in hospital, adding to the actor's turmoil.
Incidentally, Anuj is a doctor (MBBS from Mumbai's Grant Medical College) and takes active part in the family business, besides his acting commitments and his production house, Maverick. |

Anuj Saxena's track in the Balaji daily Kkusum, on Sony, now has him as a mentally challenged character who behaves like a child. The show will have him sent to jail for the murder of Kshitj (Amit Sareen).
All this while his character was shown suffering from a memory loss stuck to the wheelchair. Ever since he got off, he has now lapsed to his childhood and can't recognise his family.
Saxena will also be seen on the big screen in Sameer Malkan's thriller Lips —The Kiss of Death, co-starring Maushumi Udeshi. Elder Saxena started firm Elder Pharma was started by Anuj's father, Jagdish Saxena. When the company he was working for shut its pharma division, Saxena senior thought of plunging into business. The company initially dealt with antibiotics and hit the big time when they started making calcium supplements.
Today, Elder has its own drug-producing units. The company also manufactures the well-known Blistex range of lip care products.
Next week, Blistex will announce the winners of the India's Most Beautiful Lips contest, which has Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur among the celebs vying for the title. A jury will select winners in the male and female categories. | |
