India's tour of Zimbabwe 2015 called off due to broadcast issues: Reports

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday called off India's upcoming tour to Zimbabwe which was scheduled from July 10. According to Zee News, BCCI has decided to cancel the tour due to broadcasting issues and termed fatigue as one of the factors as well. Last week it was reported that India's tour to Zimbabwe could be postponed to next year due to the on-going issues between the BCCI and broadcaster Ten Sports.

Zimbabwe Cricket in a press release dated 20-06-2015 had said that it was optimistic about India's tour of the country next month and was in constant contact with both the BCCI and Ten Sports to resolve the issues before the series.

"There have been reports that an issue over Zimbabwe Cricket's broadcasting partner is threatening the forthcoming India tour to Zimbabwe. The position is that ZC is in constant contact with both the BCCI and Ten Sports, over issues which should be resolved before the tour," the ZC release said.

"If the matters take too long to resolve, ZC and the BCCI might mutually agree to push the tour to next year," ZC chairman Wilson Manase said in the release.

However, there is no official word on the cancellation or postponement of the forthcoming India's tour to Zimbabwe yet. The tour comprises of three one-day Internationals and two T20 Internationals.

They could have easily picked a second string Indian team, and rested the main guys, like MSD, Virat, Rohit, Dhawan, Riana, Bhuvi, Ashwin. Given opportunities to guys like Shreyas Iyer, Binny, Samsun, Ishwar Pandey, et al

Cancelling a tour due to Broadcasting Rights issues is the stupidest thing I've heard of, and just speaks to the extent to which commercial issues overshadow the cricketing aspects of the tour.

India tour of Zimbabwe likely to go ahead

India are likely to tour to Zimbabwe as scheduled for a limited overs tour from July 10 to 19 and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are planning to send a second string team, ESPNCricinfohave reported.

Earlier last week, it was being reported that the tour was about to be cancelled owing to the unresolved differences between BCCI and broadcasters Ten Sports.

India are playing non-stop cricket since last November when they toured Australia for a four-match Test series and later played a tri-nation tournament, that also featured England. Soon after the World Cup followed, where India were beaten in the semi-final by Australia and then they returned home to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As soon as the IPL ended, the Indian players travelled to Bangladesh for a one-off Test and a three-match ODI series. While the Test resulted in a draw due to excessive rain, India lost the ODI series 1-2, only securing a win in the final game of the tour. Indian skipper MS Dhoni blamed continuous cricket and player-fatigue for their loss - another reason why BCCI were reluctant of sending the team to Zimbabwe.

However, a report from ESPNCricinfo suggests that BCCI and ZC (Zimbabwe Cricket) officials have been involved in discussions and the tour might get a green signal after all. India are scheduled to play three ODIs and two T20Is against Zimbabwe. In fact, Ten Sports also quoted that they have not yet heard about the cancellation from ZC and they also put up a promotional advertisement on TV on Wednesday.

The Indian board is probably going to meet on June 29 to select a second string squad for the tour and in all likelihood most of the senior players could be rested.

This also means a lot of newbies getting picked and no established uncapped players in IPL fantasy next year. 😛😆
