At a time when most actors take pride in signing up limited number of films, why does Varun prefer to ditch the trend? "I feel if an opportunity comes your way, you should not let it go. I've been blessed to get the kind of films I've done. I did Badlapur (it released earlier this year), and my next, ABCD2, is a dance film. So, it's as diverse as it can get," says the actor, adding that he likes to experiment because he doesn't want to "bore the audience."
"Overexposure can affect an actor negatively if one keeps repeating oneself. Thankfully, my films are really different from each other," adds Varun.
While the actor is enjoying his current phase professionally, he regrets not being able to spend enough time with family. "My parents are my world. But with the amount of work I have right now, I have not been able to spend enough time with them. That troubles me a bit. But all I'm looking at doing now is ensuring that my parents have a comfortable life, because they have worked very hard to give that kind of a life to my brother (Rohit Dhawan; director) and me," says Varun.
The actor adds that he wishes to send his parents on a holiday, but can't. "My father never takes anything from us (both the sons). He refuses to take any gift, so it's quite a task," explains Varun Dhawan, who also wants to take a break and go on a vacation, but "doesn't have the time".
While he is excited about his upcoming film, Varun says that Badlapur is closest to his heart. "It will always be the most special film for me, as it got me a lot of acclaim. Many people called it a game-changer for me," says the actor, adding that unlike Badlapur, which was an A-rated movie, he would want his next to reach a wider audience.
