Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut was initially titled as the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face Of the Year, which commenced in 1989, a special award was given to Tabu in 1995 under the title of Best Debut of the year. The award i.e., LNF of the year was last given to Preity Zinta in 1999, the following year it was renamed as the Filmfare award for best female debut and that has been its title ever since.

Let's look at the list of winners-

Filmfare award for Lux New Face of the Year

1989- Juhi Chawla ( QSQT)

1990- Bhagyashree (MPK)

1991- Pooja Bhat (Daddy)

1992- Raveena Tandon (Patthar ke Phool)

1993- Divya Bharati (Deewana)

1994- Mamata Kulkarni- Aashiq Awara

1995- Sonali Bendre- Aag

(There was another separate award for Best Debut Of the year since 1989. The award was won by male actors every year except in 1995- where Tabu won it for Vijaypath.)

So in 1995 both Sonali and Tabu won it.

1996- Twinkle Khanna (Barsaat)

1997- Priya Gill- (Tere Mere Sapne)

1998- Mahima Chowdhary- (Pardes)

1999- Preity Zinta- (Dil Se).

From 2000 onwards the award was renamed as best female debut of the year

2000- Nandita Das-( 1947: Earth)

2001- Kareena Kapoor (Refugee)

2002- Bipasha Basu (Ajnabee)

2003- Esha Deol (Koi Mere Dil Se pooche)

2004- Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra (Andaaz)

2005- Ayesha Takia-( Taarzaan)😲

2006- Vidya Balan (Parineeta)

2007- Kangna Ranaut (Gangster)

2008- Deepika Padukone (OSO)

2009-Asin(Ghajini)

2010- not awarded

2011- Sonakshi Sinha (Dabangg)

2012- Parineeti Chopra (LVRB)

2013- Illeana D'Cruz (Barfi)

2014-Vaani Kapoor(Shuddh Desi Romance)

2015- Kriti Sanon- (Heropanti)

Who are your favorites from the list??

Some of them were deserving, others got plain lucky because of less competition in that particular year. How else can you explain Esha Deol winning an award. She was so so bad in her first film.

I was also surprised not to see Amrita Rao in the list. She was fabulous in her first film Ishq Vishq opposite Sahid Kapoor.

What about 'DADDY'- have any of u watched the film?? And Priya Gill - she was the girl opposite SRK in Josh right?? Don't know much about her?? What is she doing now-a-days??

And also Ayesha Takia for that weird film- that's funny. I mean Ayesha is good actress but for that film she won!!!!😲 Wasn't Gayetri Joshi (Swades) competing that year as well.

Also Gracy Singh (Lagan) was better choice over Bipasha Basu (Ajnabi) I think.

Kajol, Rani, Karishma, Aishwaria never won this award but still made it big. Did they lose to better competitors??

Otherwise the list is fine. I think the most deserving was Kangana. Not because I am her fan, but she seriously came from no where and made a HUGE impact.👏

ps : I like how my top two favs are awarded consecutively. Kangy and Deepu. Bas had Alia won it, I would have been happier. But its okay I accept that Ileana in Barfi was better than Alia in SOTY, but Alia in Highway is million times better than Ileana in all her films combined!

Ishq Vishk wasn't Amrita's first film, she did an awful reincarnation film first.

Daddy was brilliant, Mahesh Bhatt's directorials>>>>>>>>>>>>>>anything he has ever produced. Anupam Kher was perfection, the songs are classics too. Alia's mommy was in the film, playing Pooja's mom. Pooja was adorable in it.

The list is pretty good. Some got because of lack of competition that year + connections like Esha Deol. Some of the ones who lost out and later made it big...they were mostly starkids with good connections like Alia.

I still think she deserved it more than Esha. She wasnt even nominated I suppose for her first film and was nominated for IV, based on that, she totally deserved the award. However as mentioned before, Esha won because of the connections and because she was the yesteryear dreamgirl's daughter.

Ayesha takia is a brilliant actress. Very natural

But how can gayatri's performance in swades be ignored and award given to ayesha for a movie like tarzan #W*F

no award in 2010 and the only debutant was Jacki fernandez. Guess she was exceptionally bad

Awh man. I still remember when Vidya Balan (2005) and Kangana Ranaut (2006) first popped up onto the scene. It feels like yesterday. They both showed so much promise and had everyone raving about how great they were in their respective debuts.

I'm so happy to see that they have sustained for so long and are still doing quality work even today. Makes me feel like a proud mother:)
